You are so right about the part where you talk about how saying it has to be practiced a 1000 times can be discouraging for a beginner. And even though, as you say, there are a lot of books and videos out there, I had trouble finding comprehensive tutorials showing *traditional* methods. I love your videos Darla, keep them coming.
Darla dee.u are great at what u do. I've been a house painter faux finisher for 23 years I'm just starting to get into lettering..i like how u do urs and I think you would make a great teacher. Awesome video thank you for making .
What a joy to find you! I’m a 62 year old beginner to this art form and am stoked! Thanks for putting these straightforward tutorials out for us! Appreciated!!!!
This is the lesson I've been looking for! Thank you so much, really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us folk who are new to the game. All the best, cheers
Please, please, please make more of these - It's calming watching these shapes/letters being worked on. And say hi to my hometown there in Corpus Christi! Great stuff!
Wonderful instruction. Just getting into lettering after Pinstriping for 7 years. Lettering is such a intricate practice. Excited to watch all your videos. Thank you
Darla I so love your personality and teaching style. Spot on for ME. Excited to watch all your other lessons. You perfectly balance your mom energy: encouragement and discipline.
Thank you Darla - I am so grateful that you’re sharing your knowledge. I’ve always loved hand-painted signs and love that the knowledge is being passed down.
Darla, your a humble master, thank you for your step by step , calming approach to teaching the noble art of signwriting, I'm so glad You were "Born that way" ;-)
Hello Darla, I've just found you, living in England all my life I have seen many great signs. But the work that appeals to me the most is on the sides of Narrowboats on our canals. So I'm hoping through your tuition and others I will maybe get the jist of the brush.
Miss thanks so much I cant begin to tell you how much your helping me . I had a single project that I took on because of the lesson. And I don't see me doing this for a living I find it super relaxing..I still suck but I'm seeing progress.. Thanks Darla.
I think your instruction is great. I just found you on RU-vid and I'm practicing what your teaching. I'm a new pinstriper and I've been looking for a way to learn hand letering. And I found your instruction to work absolutely perfect. Learning a lot from your videos and practicing every day. Thank you.
This is the best information on RU-vid, Darla I wish you would make more videos we really love the way you teach. Would love to see a video on how you lay out the spacing for each letter. Thanks again for all you do
Dave- Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. Some health issues held me up but I am back at it! I'm thrilled that so many people are finding my videos helpful. I've got two videos almost ready to post.
big hello Darla Dee.. I just watched your intro and first video I will be watching all you have to share. I make videos too AIRPIRATE on pinstripers garage. I was nervous at first but you will forget about the camera after awhile. you explain things very nicely slow and detailed perfect for an old duffer like me. Thank you for sharing your years of experience. keep up the awesome work.
Love it! Thanks Darla. I’ve had the pleasure of taking lessons from “Superfrog” Butch Anton and have been pushing my 14 year old daughter towards hand lettering as she enjoys it. I’m looking forward to more lesson segments.
These are all original brush designs, new hair layout, new hair, designed by a Pinstriper with a little lettering experience, like nothing you’ve ever used, and will put a big grin on your face! Kwills and liners…
I love your wholesome enthusiasm to show those who are interested (like myself), how to do these basic strokes. I've subscribed and hope to learn so much from you. Can I be a pain and ask what brushes I should invest in please. 🤗
Can you think of a "Rule of thumb" for the brush and the size used for each size letter. For instance, what brushes would you consider best for the 4" letter, both the quill and flat for each of the 3" and 2".
Thank you Darla! Really appreciate you showing us all the little tips and keeping it light hearted. "It was born that way" hahaha Happy New Year from Australia ;)
I love your videos! I have airbrushed for years but it was fast freestyle lettering. I want to learn more about true sign painting. You made my day with the precut measuring tools for 3, 4 inch!! Please keep making your lesson videos.
I've just got some brushes 'Finally' - Glad I came back to look again... I missed the STAR tip. The brushes I bought for practice are too big - Darla, which size would be a good starter brush size for a starter ? Hope you are well.
Great video! For paint: Can a beginner practice with sumi ink or thinned acrylic paint instead of one-shot paint with mineral spirits? I am concerned about using one-shot paint inside with no ventilation. Thank you.
So thankyou Darla --please show us how you penciled each letter accurately in pencil by hand ----did you measure each letter before painting it --ie the underlying structure ?--surely you did not simply paint the letter directly onto the surface ?? beginners will find this totally IMPOSSIBLE !!!
Hi Darla, thanks for the mention, I’ve got Davidographicsguy also doing lettering videos using my brushes, let me know what sizes you’d like to try, please go to stevekafka.com to see what I’ve designed and let me know. Have you ever tried one of my scroll pinstriping brushes? They are also a blast to use. Thanks again...I’ve got a few pinstriping videos also.
Okay, Miss Darla, I've subscribed! I'm creeping up on age 50 and have always wanted to learn signwriting... Is there validity in learning hand lettering with a pen first, or should I quickly jump to painting? Great video!
I watched this on mute while I was listening to another video. I'm so glad I came back to listen to your dialogue; such great information. Thank you for taking the time to teach this!
Your handiwork looks great. Bro I am a Bangladeshi I have 10 years of experience as a sign writer. I am in 3D. neon sign letter sign I can work on painting. can i work in canada , can i do any writing job with tuli . Can you help me? I will be happy if you tell me
Thank the sweet Lord for ya! I am a VERY eager student and delighted you are willing to share your insights and skills along to those of us who want to perpetuate this amazing, traditional art form. After my own local mentor simply ghosted me (?) I feared learning poor form and habits that would ultimately not serve me or the work I dream to create. God bless you for taking your time and giving us hopefuls a fighting chance to do it with care. Truly, Lorna @ taterscustoms.com
