Nice review and I bought some based on it. I’ve not tried a ton of fingerpicks but these are by far the most comfortable, best sounding, and easily adjustable picks I’ve found. I tried metal- didn’t sound good Tried Fred Kelly Freedom Picks- bulky Alaska Pik is my favorite! I do modify a bit by taking a Dremel sanding cylinder to the tips and taking a lot of the lead tip down closer to my fingertips. Then I file and buff with very fine sandpaper. Feel and sound great, plus I feel like I have great control over them. Very natural feel and tone. 😊
Thanks for the video. I have bought diffeerent sizes of Alaska pics and heard that you can put them in boiling water to mold them to fit better. I am going to try it with the small ones which don't fit on my finger.
Just leaned about these picks yesterday and found your video today. Very informative. What about the pinky? I play mostly classical so I use the pinky a lot. Liked and subscribed.
AFIK, classical players don't use the pinky. At least, none of the transcriptions I've seen do. Some things like the "rasgado"' may optionally use the pinky, but it's too small to reliably hold a plastic pick.
Thanks for the video, very helpful. You mention trimming the picks to prevent it getting pushed off when you bend your finger. Is it the back corner of the pick (ie. toward the wrist) or the front corner (toward the nail) that you trim? I haven't worked out which is causing the pick to move when the finger is bent.
I trim the corners on the upper part of the pick (top of finger) towards the wrist. I trim a little at a time with fingernail trimmers until the pick stops moving when I flex.
I do videos playing pulse I’ve been songs teaching his technique Bob Dylan and all the other great Jim Croce Gordon Lightfoot a Cat Stevens a James Taylor Travispicking players
I don't have a lesson video on finger-picking, just the introduction to Alaska Piks. I don't do strict "Travis picking". I tend to intersperse melody notes, change chords and vary my bass lines beyond what is usually known as Travis picking.
