Totally concur with you Faizal! I fell in love with Joel's style in 1986 when I saw his work at the Brooklyn Museum and he has been a muse for me ever since. I feel as if he's an old friend sharing information with me. He's just Joel doing what he loves! What a nice montage you did to show your appreciation for his work and the gift of his knowledge and his love of the lens and life!
I’m always super jealous of those who have access to shooting in large cities. Street photography becomes so much easier when you’re invisible and there’s so much weird and wonderful things unfolding before your eyes.
"I don't think you need a certain level of experience to share what you know with other people" ... this clicked for me today. Thank you. I'm going to be a telescope now and take some pictures in my little corner of the world. Thanks Faizal. Now matter what video of yours I watch, in what order, always inspiring man.
I think what‘s most inspiring to me about joel is that I feel in the first line he makes me better see AND appreciate humans and then teaches me to translate what I see into photography.
Meyerowitz is brilliant with complexity. A lot of street photographers are fine with isolated subjects, or interesting juxtapositions, but Joel's best work is like a scene from an opera. Seemingly random and highly orchestrated at the same time.
I am always captivated by how well Joel expresses his thoughts on photography. He can articulate his photographic eye. Loved your shots in NYC. Loved the bodyless legs at the jewellery store
The scene with the worker putting jewelry in the case was a great window into seeing how you work a repetitive, yet interesting scene. Thanks for sharing!
(New subsrcirber) I love your photos of just peoples hands sticking out from somewhere...gives a beautiful sense of anonymity and curiosity of who the hands belong to.
I actually won a “Masters of Photography” course a couple of years ago and chose Joel’s, still haven’t completed it due to life getting in the way etc buy I’ll get back at it soon. New York, and Tokyo are my “Bucket List” destinations to go for Street Photography. Some great images there Faizal, loved seeing the architecture in B&W
Great video Faizal, i think Joel is always the first photographer people mention when it comes to street photography, or at least he was the first for me when I started looking into masters of the art
Great video! Thanks for taking me on a photographic walk down 5th Avenue. (a place I've never been) Love your approach to photography. I kind of cheered when you nailed some of your shots!
Honestly thank you so much Faizal, these videos are so great, i love your POV's too and your preset packs have taught me so much about editing my photos. I come back to your vids as a constant source of inspiration. cant thank you enough!
There is a photograph Meyerowitz took of a man standing in what look's like a tennis court with a Goodyear blimp in the sky above him. Don't know why but i can just stare at that image for some time. It's just perfect.
I was watching some of his video even when i wan not interested in street photography, but now there is a reason to learn from him as I am getting more interested in street photography with my new x100v!!!
I get a selfish vibe from Joel but in a totally positive way. You can tell that he’s so passionate and inspired by teaching photography and taking photos that it feeds his soul and gives him pride and fulfillment. There’s nothing more selfish than art because it’s a reflection of your values and how you see the world.
Oof that first shoot of yours. Not many better things than black and white architecture, for me. Loved the video, Joel Meyerowitz seems like an incredible person, such a joy to listen to.
I wasn't aware of the course. I'll give it a look. I know Joel Meyerowitz from several other videos and indeed he is an excellent transmitter of experience. Not just an educator. Loved the photo walk too. The shot in which you framed the woman under the pipe picture was my favorite!
Great shot of Blackpink's Rosé you got there 😄 On a serious note, we truly need more people like Joel for photography. Sad to hear quite a good number of greats getting drunk on fame and status.
People will hate me for this. A lot of those famous photographers are made famous not by their work but by sponsors and marketers. Not saying that they don’t have a good body of work but they are overrated (a lot of them without mentioning names). If you see a famous photo taken by some famous photographer then most probably you would like it not because of the photo is good or not but because of Hawthorne effect and ‘going with the crowd’ phenomena. I saw a photo of a potato being sold for 1million euro and can’t absorb it. Check for the most expensive photos sold and you would k ow what I mean.
I like to watch how others walk the streets.. Even the wealthy part of town looked a bit run down with most of the stores looking empty. I think most of the rich have fled here too Florida.
How have you developed your process over the time you've made these videos? It seems like you generate compositions solely through your own spatial intuition..
