Just wanted to leave a comment on here, that your videos really helped me review a lot of things I had forgotten in school. I was able to pass the FE and that definitely wouldn't have been possible without help from your videos. Keep up the good work man!

Great realistic tips, thanks for sharing. I have been out of school 22 years, and passing this exam ( failed 3 times) has been difficult for me. It seems to me that the re-takes are more difficult than the first exam, and they are each very different from the previous. I am going to do lots of exams similar to what was on the test, I find that they are very tricky with the questions, and most of the questions out there are not even close.

Please respond .......................... Hey I just did my FE civil yestarday.I did very very good on first half and very good on second one as well except for questions related to steel, and analysis of structures .do you think that we have to pass in each of the subjects in FE or can we just score overall around 70 % 0r 65% or whatever the threshold is and pass the test . Lets say I get 80% or 85% overall score and get only 30% 0r 40%(this is just a random value ,but you get my point....) of the questions from structures correct, will that hurt the chances of passing

I wonder what lessons did you learn when you did not past the other times to apply it to the next time you take the test. I have faith you will pass. I’m in the same boat you are in. I have been out of school for 17 years and trying to go for my PE. I have never been good at test. I’m going for the Industrial PE, even though my BS is in electrical engineering technology.

I honestly just found out I failed this exam today and I really thought I did really well on it. It feels difficult to try again but I want to pass this test so bad

Sorry to hear that, Stephen. The exam is very difficult and involves learning a vast number of topics. Did NCEES provide you with what areas you need to focus on?

Engineering Education Yea, so I’m gonna try and study harder on those topics.

Engineering Education Thanks! What were some study techniques that you felt helped you pass?

I find that trying to teach the material to others helps you learn it. That's why I started this channel; the folks on here helped me pass. I recommend you try and find a study buddy that can keep you honest and accountable. Exams are stressful; staying calm and not panicking goes a long way. While I was taking the exam, I noticed that some future questions gave me hints to those questions I had previously skipped/flagged. I don't think I would have noticed this without a clear head. Stress can affect critical thinking if you let it. Lastly, I don't study the day before the exam. This may vary from person to person but I don't do well when I cram information. I trust that when the time comes, I'll remember what I studied or remember some mnemonic/analogy that I had created for myself.

NCEES does not release their methods for scoring the exam but I would assume you need around 70% overall to pass. Each individual exam is scaled to adjust for minor difficulties across all exams. Also keep in mind that not all of the questions in the exam count; NCEES adds several "sample" questions that are just there for administrative purposes. These are questions NCEES uses to guage whether or not to include them in future exams. Best of luck, I hope you do well!
