Well done folks! Gets you right in the "feels"...as it should. Shooting at and potentially taking another human life is traumatizing enough but add the familiarization displayed in the "Truce" makes that prospect almost unthinkable. FYI the incident is remembered with two memorials: one in Ypres, Belgium and the other in the UK (Liverpool I believe). Also, Floor Jansen (Nightwish) is singing the ourtro. She is married to Hannes, the blond man injured by the grenade. He is Sabaton's drummer. Have a very Happy Holiday season and please stay safe.

The piano intro is Carol of the Bells played backwards. It is a production, the video was made by people that usually make movies, When the world shut down ,no movies got made, so they had time for this. The units involved had to be rotated to other areas because they wouldn't shoot at their new friends or intentionally shot high. The officers and higher ups were pissed, in future years they threatened the troops with punishment if it ever happened again, including execution.

In the chorus, the line, "Our moment of peace in a war that never ends," is what sticks in my mind when Par is carving "2021" in the closing scene. They're subtly telling us that war STILL has no ended. That brings chills.

I watched this for the first time exactly a year ago today, and had to watch it three times with tears in my eyes. I have no doubt that this is the finest Christmas song I have ever heard. Floor's vocals at the end make the track complete, although she only appears in this official video and not on the album version. Welcome down the rabbit hole of discovering Sabaton! Sabaton is a Swedish band that write songs based on true historical war events. They also have a second channel, Sabaton history, where they tell the story and history behind the songs. Highly recommend it! I would also recommend you to watch all their videos to the very end. I've seen other reactors that have stopped the videos too early, and have most of the times missed something. Would be a shame if you did. Brilliant song. The theme has been touched on before in a 1983 video by Paul McCartney on his song 'Pipes of Peace' and on its 100th anniversary as a UK Christmas advert in 2014 by the supermarket Sainsbury's.

At the end when a member of the band carved the wooden cross with 2021, it was as if they could see the future, because only some time later there was war in Europe again. One would think that a few people just don't want to learn anything from history. Sad that the story is holding itself back.

This truce was not on the whole front. The Pope of that time had asked for a truce, but the leaders wouldn't have it. So at some places at the front the soldiers themselves stopped fighting and met in nomans land. After that had happened. The command had to relocate the men that had put there rifles down. Because the soldiers who had 'fraternised' with the 'enemie', were not able to fight the men they had met. To me that is telling me so much about humanity. And knowing that, imakes this song even stronger en more meaningfull. It is a song of hope. Thank you for the reaction. It is emotional. And you showed it. That's strong.

A little late to respond to this, but Sabaton's "1916" is another video that will hit you right in the feels. It's about the Battle of the Somme, and was originally written by Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead.

There are a couple of other songs in the States that are similar to this one: 1) Belleau Wood by Garth Brooks 2) Snoopy and the Red Baron (based on the comic book series by Charles Schultz) Both songs are excellent Christmas songs, as this one is. It is a lesson of history we should never forget, that even in the darkest of times, whether in the air (see: No Bullets Fly by Sabaton), or in the trenches, that as long as even one person holds onto hope, then the darkness can never overtake the light. That even in the most hellish of warzones, all it takes is one soldier to put down his rifle on Christmas and say, "Today....today is Christmas. Today I am not fighting. Today, shall be a day of peace." Lest we forget. And to all those who read this, no matter where you are or what you believe, I very joyfully wish you and your family a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! Cheers from America! Second, after the 1914 Truce, there was a German commander who was forced to move his men to a different section of the line, because his men refused to fire at the Allied soldiers they had celebrated Christmas with the day before.

Hi guys and a Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! I'm toched by your reaction and your mentioning the crew and the effort they made in making this powerful video. They deserve that! Someone, in another reactor's comments said "the blowing up of the piano feels like blowing up the one moment of happiness in that horrible war". That hit me because i have the same feeling.
