Let’s be honest DJI… | DJI Action 5 Pro vs Action 4 

You're 100% right. The Action 5 Pro is a great camera that just needs a bit of software tuning. They've already promised to add a higher bitrate. I'm convinced this is the one to get for 2024 and 2025.

NEWS UPDATE: I got in contact with DJI support and they confirmed that the next firmware update is supposed to roll out in mid October.

You say that 5 looks warmer, i say it looks colder. Your tank top looks blue on 5. Plus 5 looks like it has fogged lens.

The Normal Mode in Action 5 seems to seek a "HDR Look", for me it looks artificial, and can be done in Davinci Resolve on Action 4 footage if I want. I like the natural look from Normal Mode on Action 4, and if I shoot in D-LOG M I can get a better image with more dynamic range too. If DJI doesn't fix that Action 5, shoot in D-LOG M and do your own color grading on it to fix what they did.

I just ordered the 5 and it's my first action camera, I am a total novice wanting for my trip to the amazon. I am really regretting it now and wish I saw your video prior to ordering. I wanted it specifically for low light settings and your comparison shows me the 4 does better imo. Great job on the video!

kuz im not ganna lie your action 5 looks broken.. i run my whole channel of the action 4 and just got the 5 and it doesn't look anything like yours does.. almost like yours has a smudged lens it's strange

This is the best video on the 5’s pure use case. After watching all the others this has been the one that’s really clarified a purchasing decision. I have canceled my order and can’t justify that flat image. You can really see the lack of detail once you’re inside with the texture on the ceiling. + The colors are way off. Dynamic range is better but the flatness kills it. I think this is just something that happens with sensors capable of HLG. They only look good in HLG but I haven’t seen any proper examples of that yet. This looks like the iPhones yet even flatter. D-log M can bring a lot back but i feel you still need particular scenarios. From what I’ve seen darker scenes will look good, daylight is just washed out and any natural contrast/pop is compensated with vibrancy.

No the magnetic mount is definitely different on the action 5 than on the 4 I have a hard time mounting the 5 compared to the 4 , the 4 is smoother

Gopro can go 200mbps bitrate with Gopro Labs. Why cant DJI make DJI labs?

Action 5 looks like crap compared to the 4. I wonder if you got a bad one. If they all look like that, I’m not upgrading to the 5.

I Think we must remember what it is, a action cam and not a “I have to make the best picture, video” cam. If you do real action stuff, I dossent matters if the viewer see a bug on the Road but me on my skateboard ❤

I am a camera reviewer and you speak truths. Well done man. Its way way to soft and warm. I think they will get it dialed in firmware as you state but no doubt its like "misty" lacking that detail for sure. It almost to me looks like a filter is on it, like a mist filter. I think adding on ND filters will help but right now it looks......not that good in most situations. IMO of course.

The lack of details on the wall behind you on OA5 is ridiculous compared to OA4... I hope they fix this. That's one of the reasons why I'll probably get the OA4.

In this video right camera Is much better (sharper) in my opinion.

Nice vid. I'm looking to get this camera for mainly 1 use case: for traveling, shooting evening nightclub and bar scenes in D Log. Any thoughts, upcoming reviews on how this compares to an iphone shooting at night? Not so concerned about audio, but do like how this would connect to DJI mic 2.

Im sorry but I cant get on board with the flat look of the 5. In my opinion the picture on the GP12 crushes this (in bright light). I mean you say they can fix this with an update, however, I have yet to see a company change their overall color science on an update.

I think, AO5 has low contrast, low highlight, higher shadow setting compare to AO4 so that make it become brighter. Seems like there is another layer like a very shallow fog (something like that) on the screen for Ao5….

interesting comparison, the action 4 colors definitely looks more true to life, OA5 colors looks way too HDR like an iphone style video and looks really washed out when you panned to the side with the sun, its really trying to optimize for dynamic range at the expense of the colors and contrast. the AO5 does seem to have more details but the details seems to be lost to video compression probably due to the lower bitrates. Maybe the dlog profile will give users better control perhaps.

but the detais on action 5 in this video is more clear than action 4...how is that work for the bit rate..i can see ur pores on OA5 than OA4

The 4 has higher saturation and is warmer. The 5 looks has neutral and colder. I woulent recommend getting this. Would to with the GoPro

Most authentic, honest and true reviews always come from end users. And this video is the best example of it. Reviewers who get free cameras to review are bunch of sales boys unfortunately.

Action 3 is better than both of them.. Forget low light scenario.. i got the Action 5 and the footage is so jittery in broad daylight while action 3 is smooth and not jittery.

Action 4 image quality looks better 😂😂😂

Definitely a mixed bag

A DJI rep confirmed the next firmware update will add a higher bitrate option. It was not an official statement, but it was by a rep from DJI. I still wonder if it will beat the Ace Pro 2 when it is released next month. I wonder if it even beats the original Ace Pro released last year. Perhaps in dynamic range.
