I think it goes more by the intellect, because there were lots of artist who were in fact poor people When an average person does this, it's bullshit But when an "intellectual" or ideological/political representative does this, it's a masterpiece

It's not about money. Sometimes mb, but not mainly. Art is supposed to point to God, to remind us to rise up out of our animal nature and become more. This type of art demoralizes, it tells us to wallow in our own shit and despair. Sacrifice, murder, primal instincts unleashed..are on the horizon. Friendly reminder to create something beautiful today and every day. Don't forget how much it matters.
Reminds me of the time I stuck a fire cracker into a big dog turd, lit it. Didn't realize it would cover someone's house with a fine mist of feces. Me unscathed, but damn I bet it could make someone a dump truck of cash.
The sad thing is that there are probably people willing to pay millions for this crap. The same crowd who attend "fashion"shows and applaud the thousand pound bin liners.

Many years ago, I took my 4yo daughter to the NSW Art Gallery in Sydney. We marvelled at the works of the great masters. On the way out of the classics section, we stopped in front of the only 'abstract' artwork and stood among the typical 'artsy' types, gazing with admiration at this mess of colour. In the silence, my daughter's voice rang out true as she asked... "daddy, did the kids do this one?". It was pure gold and standing among us were a few who nodded in agreement with my daughter's honest appraisal.
Remember the "painting" of three stripes that sold to the government for millions ? And the cosmetic industry makes billions every years to make the ladies look like mannequins and same with fashion that changes styles every year to make billions . We still have a very rich society .

Unfortunately, the days are long gone for both the artists and the turtles. They've repeatedly tried to reboot the turtles; however, it doesn't have same magic or soul as my childhood.

I immediately thought of the 1988 remake of 'The Blob' (which is actually a really great movie). Not seeing someone absorbed/melted/digested by the pink goo is highly disappointing.
Art is anything created by a person to express themselves. The things depicted in this video are art, the video itself is art. The reason people don’t consider it as such is because it’s not immediately, “beautiful”, or obvious in its meaning. But art isn’t about the creator holding your hand and making something easily digestible. It’s interpretive, and often challenging.

I don't think I could do the pink foam, that one does require some knowledge of chemistry - it kinda looked like fun. Not so much for whoever is stuck cleaning up the mess after though.
Art students are notoriously full of themselves. They are not artists, they are just narcissists, who think whatever they draw, mold, or create in anyway is considered artistic. This is why most of them have purple and pink hair and dress in a way that beckons you to look at them. The crap I put in my toilet can be considered art these days!

As a mediocre artist self-taught artist with no connections, it kinda makes me glad that I make what I make because I hate this pretentious post-modern bullshit from art academia.
The works of dead artists are the favored exhibits because society put value on them on arbitrary reasons, works that really have no extraordinary objective merit.
Performance art has been a thing for decades. This is more than just modern art it's its own subcategory. I'm not the biggest fan of it but the reaction is the purpose of it in most cases, so the perfirmance is doing its job here.
Tbh if u actually had the balls to do that, it could be considered art. Cause that would be a statement right here. But instead ur just fantasizing about it. I guess thats the difference between u and the artists, they'll actually do something instead of only bitching about it.

As an artist i watch all the art shows and a blank canvas sold recently for 1000s - dont know why i even bother anymore. People pay 1000s for banksy's crappy politcal stencil art a kid could do and nobody knows of his amazing fine he creates
I'm a hotelier. I like to paint big canvases white, then dribble spare emulsion paint over them in the style of Pollock. Nice big paintings to fill empty walls. The trick is to use pastel colours (not dark) in shades which match the room's colour scheme (carpet, curtains) and apply three coats of varnish via a small roller.
Still though Banksy is an artist. As a "kid" who would do the same work would also be an artist, age certainly does not define who is an artist. For me art is when you have a concept and visualize it in a way that the viewer will understand it, better yet if it also makes the viewer think deeper and even better while also it is visually pleasing and inspiring in some way. If the viewer does not understand what the "artist" is trying to express then its not the viewer that is "stupid", its the "artist" which is stupid and talentless.

the art world was never beautiful and inspirational. ffs. omg he drew a woman im inspired omg a naked man im inspired. no youre pretentious inspiration is so far out of youre grasp youd be better off reaching for the moon.
I just started studying fine arts and everything is focused on looking at all the negative things in the world. It's more complaining than creating which is why we end up with this junk.

As an artist myself I never considered any of this crap to be art. I know that in general art shouldn't have any rules, but I think no matter what it should be pleasing to look at.
I think that we simply shouldn't use word "art" in a positive light. Art can be skillfully made or it can be poorly made, art can be profound and can be shallow. Also I strongly disagree with art being something pleasing to look at. You can draw disemboweled, mutilated bodies and it will make most people nauseous, but it will still be art.
As an avant-garde composer, I think the majority of modern art is sensitively and meaningfully created.. but from these excerpts I can't discern any of that. This "performance art" is reactionary and nothing else.

Sweet, my seven year old can make millions with her drawings, just got to find the nearest gallery - We will call it, 'An Innocent View' a journey into the present as seen through the eyes of a child, a multi-piece exhibition in coloured pencil on A4 paper. I'm sure I can figure out some kind of symbolic meaning for each drawing.
Just teach your daughter some really big words and tell her to string them together in a nonsensical way to explain her pieces. That'll be the finishing touch 🎀
