I was surprised to see a cigarette lighter and ashtray! Haven’t seen one in a car for a while. Seems like it was a responsive car that handles well. I was surprised that it lacked so much space in the back considering it looks so sedan like instead of being sportier. I think the lack of space would be forgiven if it had a bit of a wild design. It has a great horn though! Thanks for bringing it back!!
Great Review Charlie. Surprised to see no Quattro on that test car. Glad to see amber rear turn signal lamps. We don’t get the amber ones on the US spec A3.
As an european owner of A3 (1.5l 150 HP hatchback) I can say it's very good unbiased review. A biggest drawback of car is an insulation from wheels. Beyond 130 km/h noise is quite big for a premium car. Ofc in Toyota Corolla it's much worser, but still for example BMW 1/2 are better. Longterm owners also moan about quality of leather on seats (it deteriorates quickly). But overall it's really good car
Very nice review Charlie! You're one of the best automotive journalists on youtube! I really like the new A3, S3, RS3 from audi. just a suggestion.... @ 11:22 I think you said "it looks quite techy" as in lots of tech. but it sounded like you pronounced it like "tacky". which means "촌스럽다"...
I just test drove an A3 FWD version and was very impressed . I am considering a 23 A3 FWD with a 18in wheel sport suspension pkg. 38mpg hwy, regular fuel, and is quicker than the numbers reflect ( 2.0T 201hp/221 torque)....Why? because it also has a new mild hybrid 48 volt battery system which contributes to the acceleration/power. ( this adds 12hp and 37 lb ft of torque upon acceleration for short bursts.....). I am looking for a more practical replacement for my 2018 Audi TT Quattro.... I am now retired and in NC and don't feel the need for Quattro.
That 2l engine is the same that you can see in actual TT model (245 HP), but with different software. Also S3 have 2l engine with 300 HP but there are bigger differences there than just a engine map
This car is fine. But I don't think I'd buy it over the A Class or 1 Series. To me, they both have a slightly nicer interior. They also both come in hatch form here making them more practical and attractive. (imo).
Hello Charlie, I hope all is well. I’m giving up on the Telluride, and going with an SUV Hybrid. From all your reviews, what do you think of the Kia Sportage and which one has all the bells and whistles THAT YOU LIKE. Maybe even the Sorrento Hybrid. Thank you. I want to go get a new vehicle this weekend.
I like Tucson and Sportage hybrid. Both are stylish and high tech. But if you need a larger car i think both Santa fe and Sorento are great, too. But design difference mostly.
In terms of style and design, I like the Mercedes A-Class sedan better, which has a clean look. Audi designers are obsessed with plastic add-ons that aren't needed and make the car look like a go-kart kinda thingy.
In Europe there are 2 PHEV versions with 1.4l engine and also 1.5l and 2.0l petrol engines with automatic gearboxes have mild hybrid system (for better start of an engine, because it turns on even during the ride, not only when you stand in traffic). Only manual 1.5l petrol and diesel engines have no mild hybrid
The Audi design department must be one lucky group working for a very lenient chief designer. Their design have been the same for more than a decade, and if compared to its main rivals, I personally think they've been sticking to the same core design for way too long and it's getting a bit long in the tooth. 😅Lol!
Really dislike the exterior and interior design of the new A3. Interior looks cheap and dull. Exterior is random and not handsome. Its lile they keep adding lines and vents to the existing design from ten years ago. I don't see any reason at all to get an A3 over something like a G70 for the same money
