In my opinion, you're the best youtuber on here for real hotshot information. I've watched a bunch and the stuff you put on here has been like the exact info I needed. Thank you. I am still going to jump out and do it next fall, when the kid goes off to college. Already have the truck and trailer, insurance is quasi reasonable because I'm older, I guess. Hang in there, better times are coming!

I got in and i got out in under a month. Fuel was terrible, west coast isnt even viable. Sold my truck at a 10k profit and rented the trailer so i took a 3k loss on that. All in all probably a wash for me. I watched the rates tank my 2nd week. Nothing in 800 miles would make a profit. Im not deadheading 800 miles for a $500 profit. It sucks that it didnt go better, but i didnt lose my life savings over it, just some ego. Your a good guy ricky, youll find your way, forward, or elsewhere if need be. Thanks for keeping it honest big guy, keep your head up 🤟

Fuel surcharge is only for company’s with contracts if your running load boards or direct customers fuel surcharge does not exist

High fuel prices are a definite negative, but I talked to a corporate driver for a very large transporter and he said they are rolling hard and he has not made a penny less. How is that possible? Because the mega transporters offset margins against millions of miles driven. This means fuel cost displacement is better the more miles you drive. As small carriers fall out or sit out, the large carriers fill that void and add even more miles to their margin adjustments for fuel cost. Now, if you want to talk about the real foundation of what is happening all you have to do is watch a CNN video of day 2 of the current Admin and notice the executive orders concerning energy production. You are right about the fuel cost adjustment absence of the car hauling biz. We have seen a number of cancellations lately for not ready vehicles. Some dealers will not take cars from auctions without titles and that has some backups happening. We have 7 Hotshot trucks and they stay busy but it is a lot more work for our dispatcher than ever before.

So I have a question I’m not understanding 100% what’s the difference between CDL hotshot and non-CDL hot shot. I know it’s a weight limit thing and you still have to have a CDL physical.thanks

I don’t either man. The thing that sucks about the load board is that it’s pretty much flat rate. Basically take it or leave it. I’ve got a few on there I can haggle with and win but for the most part you just gotta search based on what you’ll haul.

I dont have a truck yet but i am in the chicago market and thats mostly what i see as far as hotshot is setups that haul cars. I see a few hotshot freight setups but mostly car setups here

You can f150 up backward, sedan in the middle and f150 at the tail all day with that set up Ricky. Ran f350 with wedge for many years and never once had a problem with that combo .. I have even put f250 up back wards when inop with 2 units behind it .. Dont be worries about that axle weight man..

I've been told by a broker buddy his phone is ringing off the hook and drivers are simply taking whatever rate he offers...... Tells me the market is either flooded with trucks for the demand has decreased....... Soon as there's a little pump in the road all these guys with inflated payments tons of debt over paying drivers are jumping at the fence to take whatever they can get to stay afloat..

It doesn't help that rates are actually dropping I just made a video going over DATs market analysis and you can clearly see the drop in rates and also the uptick in capacity.... Contracted rates are now $0.10 more than the average spot market rate per mile so that just goes to show you where the market is going all you have to do is overlay the later part of 2018 and you can see similarities.

Right, but the “cost of everything has gone up”. Seems to be that way too crept for the rates. I’m sure they’ve gone up too but a lot of brokers are taking the uptick to their pocket. Sick how it all works.

I have found the best way to add up operating cost is add all your cost up house bills business expenses an for maintenance you have to fiqure how many tires an oil an what your going go threw for year an dived it by 12 an add it to other two

In trucking you got to save money in great times to survive the bad times. Need to get a 5 gallon bucket and fill with cash. If you cant manage money this games not for you. My company is killing it but they invested in trucks and trailers with lift axles and singles tires getting over 8mpg. Our drivers get around 25% of good freight 1/3 is reefer and over 80% is food and only 10% is broker freigt. I would guess a driver at my companies is making more than 8 out of 10 owner operators with only 5% of the stress

😂 FACTS on going around stations, but fix that problem with bigger truck. Y don’t u buy a 5500 if ur going to get a truck. I purchased mine for $65 last year and called dealer now and getting a new 2022 and the MSP only went up $5,000. But most dealers I see u get trucks for sticker price. Buy one here if it’s cheaper. Man hate seeing you bummed brother, hang in there and BUY A TRUCK and get out of contract.

Bc I bought a F450 and rear axle same as 3500, so worthless it was 😂 me personally for what we do personally like that exhaust brake on the Ram!! And same price maybe even cheaper so better off getting bigger. My payment is $1100 a month, is u send the same payments u do with enterprise, that truck be paid off no time 😂

Not sure if you will answer this but either way, appreciate all the content. My question is What can I do if anything if I'm having trouble with a trailer manufacturer getting me my trailer. Don't wanna drop names cause I'm still dealing with this. I gave them half down and agreed to a payoff on delivery in 5 weeks. I was supposed to get my trailer 3 weeks ago and I'm still not getting straight answers. Any advice would be appreciated.

That’s one of those “pick your battles” situations right now unfortunately. You could snap the agreement based on their breech of terms and get your money back but then you’ll be out of the line on a trailer altogether. Every manufacturer has at least a 3 month lead time right now. So you’d be back to square one. If I were you I’d become a squeaky wheel. Call them every day. Speak to the highest up the ladder you can. Sucks to hear man, I feel for you right now.

Now that you've been in a ram with your 50ft how are you doing states like IN/PA that enforce 65ft with a bed on? I measured my 17 crew cab and 50ft Kaufman and was at 65' 9"

Hey man, got life handing me tons of lemons right now. Answer is absolutely not. There are no only a handful of brokerages that require a specific time in or rating on central dispatch. Literally like 5 or less that I’ve run across. You’ll be good to go 👍👍

For freight yes. I believe you can create an account with both Truckstop and dat. Cars is a little tougher. Central dispatch requires you to register as the carrier you operate under so you’d need that information to sign up for those boards.

@@LoadMizer Thank you, the DAT works well but a lot of no price listed and truckstop was a 30 min. video with no board but the info I can get from DAT will help a lot. Does it seem like a lot of brokers turn away hotshotters in favor of larger trucks?

Not typically. You’ll see some that actually say no hotshot in the details but for the most part I never saw an issue running partials.

@@LoadMizer your spot on with fuel economy too. I've kept my speed between 60 and 65. Have a 7 foot tall load and tarped about 5k lbs. Left Southern Alabama and was getting 13.5 mpg until I got west of Houston. West of San Antonio is Texas Hill country and I dropped to 9.1 mpg in a blink of an eye. Going to Phoenix with it currently east of El Paso.

Curt is probably going to be your most widely available and cheapest (good quality) option or for a few hundred more you can get a B&W. I’ve heard great things about both so pretty much whichever one you can get your hands on the quickest 👍👍

@@boseal7633 desperation has them running for peanuts..screwing the whole game up! The only ones still doing well are 1) the guys that got in a couple years ago when equipment was cheap. Now its almost double for both truck and trailer i couldn't imagine! 2) the guys that have been doing this for a couple years. They have alot of regular brokers that take care of them. Im one of those guys, i spent my first year paying off the truck and trailer so everything is everything, so im safe for now. They are choking the limited capacity (non-cdl hotshot) out.
