There is some truth that “Mafia” neighborhoods aren’t actually safe. They aren’t safe for outsiders. But for long time residents of the neighborhood they were relatively safe.
I always wanted to Ask Giuliani if he was happy with how the neighborhoods changed , never had to worry about your grandparents being mugged or something much worse. .
He has a lot to think about. I’m sure he’s looking back on his life and shaking his head. Hopefully he’s smart enough to know “ you don’t have no friends in that life.

I think it's that they were "Italian neighborhoods" where even the Irish, Jewish, and others grew up among Italians, and thus grew up tight and always defended the neighborhood from outsiders coming to start trouble. That's what probably made it feel safe. Bergen Beach was also like that in the 80s. Nowadays you have rejects who've been in the country for 2 weeks go into any random nabe, drag an elderly woman down a sidewalk for her bag, and everybody stands and watches, turns the other way, or records it to post on social media 😖
Now, you telling me, the young gang boys from the ghettos weren't dragging innocent people's bags back in the day? It all started like that, don't you see? We live in a human zoo, not a society. Get it?
To simplify it, they were white neighbourhoods. Predominantly Italian but with other whites like Jews, Italians, Polish etc. places like Astoria were also white ie Greek, but with far fewer types of whites in those areas.
@@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot Sicilians are not that way, you know... Here in Argentina you can tell who is of sicilian ancestry and who's not for the most part just by looking at their skin colour. Sicilians are mostly Brown, some are olive white and very few white. I'm from Campania ancestry, basically i'm a pale prism
@@Ionlydategoodgirls one of my good mates is Sicilian. He’s paler than the average English person. As are his mum and dad. Toto riina was Sicilian, very pale, cesare bonventre, carmine galange, joe Bonanno etc etc etc are white Sicilians. Olive skinned people are white, just tanned. I agree that the very dark Sicilians aren’t, they’re a throwback to when Sicily and lots of Europe was colonised by the Arabs. However most Italians are white, some paler, some more tanned. All ethnic Europeans are Caucasian, from England to Italy to Greece to Spain etc etc. you get exceptions ie the very dark Sicilians or Spanish, but they’re not the majority and are again a result of Arab colonisation. I get your point though
Hey Jimmy, there’s a new channel called “Felon Talks” with a guy that did 30+ years in the Feds and he was discussing the Italian wing in Lewisburg and Herbie Sperling etc. You may have ran across the guy.
Jimmy, respectfully you need to wash your face and hands. Your message would be better taken if you were more presentable. I'm an ol' West Coast homeboy from L.A. and whatever lessons are learned come from a vato that commands respect. Show a MoFo that you can still do it up legitimately and do your thang. Cause we all know that image is everything and thirst is nothing.
Those Neighborhoods in New York were protected by those Mafia Families, the Irish didn't go into a Sicilian Neighborhood.. period! And the Neighborhood's the Sicilian Mafia families looked out for never had any crimes done there. Because people knew who really protected those streets and Neighborhoods! It certainly wasn't the police!
