I’ve mentioned it before, the most important crop you are growing is your children. You had me in tears when you spoke of letting them assume some chores and the boys responding by owning it. Well done both of you. Now just teach to say thanks mom when you ask them how breakfast was. Weekend at bubbles (not Bernies) would be a great sequel. And everyone knows FORD means Fix Or Repair Daily.

My grandfather always used a trough to feed his pigs. Not bowls or anything they can knock over but a pig trough. Made from wood in the shape of a V with legs about a foot off the ground. It helps when you feed them liquids!

Yep that's how we fed our pigs when we raised them in the late 60's and early 70's. We fed ours 7 different grains in 5 gal buckets and added water to make a slop. Then they got all the scraps mom had. And our pigs had 1 1/2 acres of land that was fenced. With a creek and pond that ran thru the bottom of the area. They loved it! So did I. I spent most of the summer in with the pigs. Playing with them. Ours were so tame as I spent so much time with them. The area was spotless to run around in. Just avoided their bathroom corner. Their house always had a big bunch of clean straw. And when mom couldn't find me......she checked the pig house and would find me sacked out using a pig for a pillow. Good times. My hubby and I want to raise a couple next year. Going to get an acre fenced off for them first. And yes, I knew the pigs were going to be bacon and pork chops. I was a country girl.

All of us grandchildren used to always help out there especially with the chickens & feeding & tending to the horses. My grandma also had a garden in the summer. Great time of my life. It taught me a lot about responsibility & hard work. And yes most of us went barefooted during the spring & summer.

@alisonshanahan9529
@alisonshanahan9529 3 года назад
Get them cooking! It's the best skill for them to learn. Start with baking packet cake mixes, they learn how to crack eggs and mix with a wooden spoon. You can freeze portions for school snacks, by the time they get a break, it's defrosted. I also had mine ironing from age 5 and making their own beds. Start them off ironing pillowcases on a cooler setting. By the time mine were 7 they were ironing most of their own clothes. Don't be a slave, if you're working, so are they! Ignore how inefficient they are and don't redo their work. They will realise that they have to get better at jobs themselves.
@thejunkincolvards8843
@thejunkincolvards8843 3 года назад
@@alisonshanahan9529 mine make their beds everyday. They love to sweep and feed the dogs and stuff like that. My 7 year old has been helping cook since he was 2-3. We let him pour in things when making brownies or cake or cookies. We had to move into a small cabin to wait till our move date so we haven't done it with my 4 year old. Once we get moved I plan on letting them help cook and clean up the house and other chores and start paying them after my husband gets a job. We're moving from MO. We don't know anyone down and definitely don't know where anything is. It's fine be a new beginning for us.

I started to watch you as I was interested in your homesteading journey. Little did I know that your channel would turn out to be something much more than just a homesteading channel. I enjoy your creativity on the homestead as your raise food and animals, but like everyone else who watches, the channel has become a guide for everyday families to build a life together and find those things that fulfill them mentally, physically and spiritually. The difficulties and challenges that your and your family face everyday are the same ones that so many other people around the world face also. You and Meg raise your family to the best of your ability and instill values in them that will last a lifetime. I enjoy your videos and want to see you post more regularly as you have so much more to offer your audience than you imagine. You are real, honest and use what is available, all the while showing how hard the work is, but also how rewarding it is. Keep it up!

About the computer... If it wasn't on at the time of dropping the hard drive should still be OK. If you can't get it fixed, remove the hard drive and you can purchase an external drive case for it and still access your data. Transfer all the data you want to keep then format it to get rid of all the old Windows stuff and you can use it as a backup drive.

I was once told that the two hardest times of your life are when you are 13 and when your kids are 13. They also said that 13 is NOT an age, but rather a state of mind that kids go through. Being 13 can happen anytime between 10 and 18. It can pass quickly or can be non-stop for several years ... or anything in between. In my experience, this is correct, but this time can also be the most rewarding time, if things are done right. Parenting is a challenge, and not everybody is good at it.

Regarding the twins and work -- you are right to be proud. They are contributing to the family and the whole enterprise, and they are learning and gaining a justified sense of self-worth in the process. This is a significant advantage of a farm and/or homestead life.

Great idea on breading bubbles with the cross bread pig. I am really looking forward to seeing the results So sorry about the Ford. Will be praying for your family to get it fixed right with minimal cost. Your RU-vid family is such a great pleasure to watch and learn. God Bless.

For what they do for your Forest, or your overgrown parts of your land would be worth just eating off the other three pigs, and then worrying about taking one of them out, cuz they really do a good job, it's looking pretty good on that property dude!!!

Sorry about your truck. We have a Ford and it is great. Any brand of truck can break down.

Great to see you all again. The twins are doing a great job with the chickens - responsibility breeds maturity but does not seem right to call them "the twins" they are young men. Meg when I'm watching and you are cooking it is mouth watering. Keep well - all of you - God bless your family

A good functioning truck is essential for your homestead. I am on my forth Tacoma in through my lifetime.. This one is a 2004 and running great. I make sure I keep up with the maintainence. Wishing you luck in finding out the cause of the break down.. I have lived in both stick built houses and mobile homes through the years. Looking at your remodeling made my day this morning. You have done a fantastic job of making the mobile home a welcoming family retreat. I could smell that bacon cooking Meg. It felt like home ~ Diane

I love that the boys half the time are doing chores barefoot. My own lil guy prefers to feel the dirt between his toes and most of the times will pull his shoes off just about anywhere
