I think the advice you guys give is pretty much universal. I don't live in Finland but this very much sounds like my career so far, minus getting references (majority of employers don't care) and graduate programmes (we don't have them here BUT I know what they are because my first job was actually screening applications for these programmes for a Big4 company). Starting out is difficult pretty much everywhere and for everyone. And it's very rare for people to immediately get the job they wanted or studied for. It's a journey. I love that you highlight can-do attitude and willingness to learn; it sounds cheesy but it can get you really, really far. My previous and current position in my workplace didn't even exist when I applied and they were not planning to have them. I was very much overqualified and overexperienced for the positions they had open but I took it anyway because the hiring manager made a great impression and we immediately got along. After a year it turned out that I'm the only person that had skills and experience they needed for a new project. Bang. All previous career goals achieved, and beyond. Getting summer internships or traineeships is a nightmare for Finnish natives as well. I think I applied for around 60 summer jobs last year and I didn't land a single interview. Hoping to do better this year.
