Kayla, great video showing the difference of nutritional values on the variety of grass alfalfa mixes. This is like the study and production in how it relates to what we as humans eat. Quality is everything!🙂
That is wonderful that you and Wtfarm girl have gotten together on this as you 2 are my favorites on here.I got to see 1st hand up and close her 2nd cutting back in September as I got a ride along while Suzanne was mowing. You both amaze me in your passion and knowledge.Keep up the the good work and enjoyable video s you work so hard on to produce.
After making hay for over 23 years its always interesting to hear from people who make hay around the united states and how different the hay crop can be even with the same variety.. Every farm is different with how and when they make hay .. always fascinating... Can't wait to start this year. Only if the rain would stop
Thank you for sharing so much of the 'inside baseball' aspects of your hay business. Even the simple or obvious (to you) stuff is of interest to the newbies and less experienced. Suzanne mentioned you in her video, good to see y'all networking, I enjoy both of y'all's video channels
Basically all the grass hays you mentioned belong to Bunch grass families..... of which Fescue is the only one I am familar with.....Our primary Variety of hay is Hybrid Coastal Bermuda..... We have one field that was established in 1962 ...... We planted cotton and peanuts in this field but never truly eradicated it..... When we ceased row cropping the Bermuda that was hiding in the field borders.... started marching across the field ..... It's even moving across the path that separates us from our neighbor.....
Great video! We also sell small square bales to horse owners. Weather is a huge factor. Some customers want to pre-order in the spring for the fall but I say, tell me how much and when it will rain and then I'll tell you how much hay I have. I usually end up having hay for them, I just don't want to sell it before it's baled up.
Jason will do a few presales in May when we start seeing where we are. This Year alfalfa will be a hard thing to come by. One of our stands has heaved (it’s going on 7 years so we’ve discussed putting in corn silage to utilize the Nitrogen in the ground already and then we will replant in September Alf.
I like the discussion / talk from Jason in the truck , he seems to open up , it's was outstanding ? Thank you , Kayla what you are doing to have Jason talking / opening up is working ! Stay safe ! Bob
You know I had always assumed that horses had more specialized nutrient needs than cows, but after all the research i realized that cows were much more sensitive 😮. Gave me greater appreciation for those raising cattle 😄
I think when it comes to animal nutrition they all have sorts of special needs - sheep and goats have crazy diets too ! So much goes into to raising livestock that people don’t realize if they’re not on this side of it! Thanks for teaming up with me on this project !
Great Information video. i have noticed in the last 3 years more & more short foxtail coming into my hayfields. I have one Customer complaining that it is giving her horses Ulcers in it's mouth. I talk to my spray rep last fall about the foxtail situation. His recommendation was to spray with prowl S H20 or pursuit. He said for the spray to be most affective to spray after 1st cutting because of the ground temperature.
Watch the Broadleaf sprays as they will kill your clover - some times you have no choice but you may end up killing something you wish you hadn’t ... it’s partially why Jason chooses not to always spray all the fields.
Growing up in NY countryside, I never knew what that grass stem, I was chewing on, was called..until you just told me:) Foxtail. Great information in that video, although I don't need it. It's just nice watching your shows.
Je vous souhaite à vous et à toute votre famille une bonne année 2021 .Je vous remercie pour vos intéressantes videos et vos liens Albert paysan chef de cuisine en Suisse
What is the longest distance miles that Jason will deliver ? Second , people that come & pick it up how far do they travel ? Great video 👍 each video has more information each week ! 3 rd item , will you put this info on a pamphlet from your farm / discussion ? A lot of info to remember , sure do hope so ! Take care ! Bob
Good Evening. I am a broker looking to cultivate a personal relationship with a alfalfa producer. I deal in multi ton shipments.Consistency and quality is very important to me as well. I look forward to speaking to y’all. Thank you
