Everytime I give someone a gift I also tell him that if he doesnt like it or will stop needing it in a future he can declutter it without a guilt. I like to give these just in case permissions as I know many people who are holding to items event though they dont want to.

I was once given a pack of toilet paper for Christmas. Was such a great gift cause it meant I didn’t have to buy any on my next grocery trip. I always love to give and receive stuff that are essential. Toilet paper, grocery store gift cards, bag of coffee they drink.

Sometimes I get home decor from my mother in law and grandma in law and it makes me feel almost resentful because I feel obligated to display it in my home when they come over. Those are the hardest things for me to get rid of!

Great topic! The only people who still buy for me on birthdays or Christmas are my boyfriend, my son, and my mom. They all know I'm downsizing and either ask me what I want, or give me gift cards. I'm perfectly fine with that. I do the same for them.

I very much dislike getting gifts now a days. Im a very fickle person and go through many waves throughout my life, so I tend to let go of 95% of the gifts I have received. I still have gifts now that I feel guilty getting rid of. My partner and I are doing a no gift year this year and im honestly so excited for it, but feel so guilty at the same time because of the customs that society has integrated into us.

Doing the same with two very good friends. Was uncomfortable to initiate the conversation with both individuals, but relieved afterward to have spoken up rather than "keep with custom" that was not enjoyable, etc. One was immediately on board (as if she was already thinking same thing LOL). The other one was receptive but not really "getting it". With her I've focused on the gift being when we can get together; enjoy a meal together; time together instead. Hopefully both will NOT give Christmas or birthday gifts going forward. If they do, will get a thank you from me, but I will not be pulled back in. If that makes sense.

In my country is pretty normal to give some amount of money. Most people believe it is better for you to choose what to buy and how to spend it :) If someone asks me what do you want for bd I say Cash or transfer money 😊

But that does not work for christmas. Imagine that you receive 20 dlls as a gift and what do you give them? Another 20 dlls? 😂lol

Simple message to all your friends and family: No more physical gifts to me , or from me! Done!

I believe giving a gift should be done with no expectations of how it may be received. You are "giving" it away...no strings attached.

I kindly ask people to gift anything to me, but that's no too easy, as people often insist

I agree, I feel like people will get offended no matter how many times you try to say it politely. This is a tough situation!

Just as you said in another video it is best to set up expectations. Thanks for that thoughtful comment!
