See Peter Jackson and Let It Be director, Michael Lindsay-Hogg discuss the restoration of The Beatles 1970 documentary. Let It Be is streaming May 8 only on #DisneyPlus.
Get Back & Let It Be are great. If they decide to go along with Peter on doing an even more extended Get Back, they should release it as a mini-episode basically every day January of 2025, to line up with the Beatles' schedule of 1969
It's been restored several times I'm guessing. If you watch Anthology, the Let It Be footage is crisp and bright, so they have been cleaning it up over the decades. It hasn't been sitting in a vault since 1970 deteriorating.
@@phillydisco Thats not true. Since 1970 the film never had been restored until now, and the footage until Peter Jackson Get Back in 2021. For Anthology only were restored a few scenes.
@@rafaelesquinardo1086 Not sure. I see your point that they could have just remastered certain sections, but they were fairly random and scattershot. It would make sense that the whole film was remastered, and then they pulled clips from that. If it's been planned to be released for a long time, that would make sense as well. There's always been something that holds it up.
@@phillydisco Your opinion and the truth are opposite things. The entire film hasnt been restored until now. End of the story. Paul didnt want to restore Let it be until he saw Get Back series. The sections in Anthology are only eventual choices.
@@rafaelesquinardo1086 From Wikipedia "Let It Be was remastered from the original 16 mm film negative by Apple Corps in 1992, with some footage seen in the 1995 documentary". And "After additional remastering, a DVD release containing additional footage (tentatively titled Let It A, B, C) was planned to accompany the 2003 release of Let It Be... Naked, " So it is NOT just my opinion.
I can't tell how deeply I'm connected to a band that I started listening to when half of them left this world, half a century later. And I still relate to them. Just to imagine how ecstaticly incredible it would've been to see them perform gives me chills. This world will never get something like it.
Peter Jackson has been with us for a while now with the Beatles! First Get Back (2021), then helped with lending the MAL technology for the Revolver Mix on 2022, then with the Red & Blue Album Mixes and Now and Then song with music video 2023. I’m sure if Rubber Soul is next this year (2024) then Giles will continue to use Peter’s MAL technology! I hope we see more Peter Jackson involvement with videos as well and MAL! Exciting times to be a Beatles fan!
I saw this version @ the movies when I was 13yrs old. Although I haven’t seen it in a long time, the “Get Back “ version is a happier version. 🥰 Even though I love anything the Beatles are in & have since I was 6yrs old & saw them on Ed Sullivan. ❤️
Do we get to see the full interview with Peter and Michael? I want to know what Michael thought of Get Back and vice versa. Get Back was marketed as a “correct the record” of Let It Be’s events, so I’m curious if Michael feels his original film was maligned to promote Get Back.
I can honestly say, if Get Back wasn't released, there would be no Let It Be release. Paul and Ringo probably got to see the footage in a different light, and finally decided it was time to get Let It Be out too.
Disney have recently seemed to have changed their mind on physical media with the release of some of their Disney marvel shows, so I think there will definitely be a physical release of this with the demand. Altho it will be a year or two away
Geez, I always thought in "Two of us" the line after "Two of us riding nowhere, spending someone's hard earned pay" was "spending someone's autumn day" ...........for 55 years lol
If you watch Get Back, part of the reason for the tension was being constantly filmed. So in all likelihood, those albums would not have been as good as they were if there was a film crew there every day.
Hopefully, when the Blu-ray disc of the Let it Be movie is released there will also be the complete rooftop performance WITHOUT THE PEOPLE ON THE STREET TALKING DURING IT !! One can only hope.
Re-Release LET IT BE album now please - With Don't Let Me Down - the stand out performance in the Film - criminally left off originally, Finally included where it deserves to be. The album is crying for it, to make it complete.
I think the positivity of get back is overstated. Yes there are more positive moments but the overall boredom, tension and misery are there to see. Paul literally crys on camera at one point.
His role in Let It Be was mostly non-speaking. He sat back and watched the other three melt down. He already had his crisis in 68 and decided to just enjoy the ride.
I wish somewhere, they would have had the COMPLETE ROOFTOP PERFORMANCE WITHOUT cutaways to the street etc. That's okay as a documentary, but why not let people experience the last complete live concert performed without all the interruptions! Why has no one questioned or thought of this?. You have the film (cutaways) as is...fine, now let people see the last concert complete!!! They obviously have the footage (non-stop) and they edited in all the people saying..."is that the Beatles?" etc. Come on Peter Jackson, Michael Lindsay-Hogg (Disney?), give us that!
Looks like was filmed in this decade. Crazy. Not the biggest fans of Beatles but respect the hustle and have songs I like. To see tis is nostalgic. Love restored film. Hope to see all Michael Jackson’s short films restored.
The truest of all true Beatles fans were the young screaming girls. They understood the magic of the Beatles in a truer and deeper way than anybody else did at the time and it's taken us a few decades to catch up with them. If you'll excuse me now, I'm going to go scream. And then I'm going to stream the Beatles.
