"Let It Snow" is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in July 1945. It was written in Hollywood, California during a heat wave as Cahn and Styne imagined cooler conditions.

I'm curious on how you recorded this, did some of you record this at the same time and others use tracks?
@DavePollack
@DavePollack 4 года назад
I made rhythm section practice tracks, then Jay recorded, I recorded sax, I recorded keys, Mike recorded bass, then finally Dom recorded drums. I think that's the best order for getting the most organic playing/interaction!
@adrianguev1294
@adrianguev1294 4 года назад
Can you specify regarding the info of your fans playing? What do you want us to play? just the intro,? what song? what key?
@DavePollack
@DavePollack 4 года назад
Just play any Christmas or Holiday song you want! Any song, any key, whatever - I would be featuring your video, not putting it with others to play along with. The only thing (like I said in my intro video) is don't use an already-made backing track (for copyright reasons) but iRealPro is just fine.

I’ve always been told that if you have to record comping and solo separately for some reason (like in this case) to record the comping instruments first, then solo after. But the comping instruments are definitely interacting with your ideas during your solo. How’d you go about doing this?
@DavePollack
@DavePollack 4 года назад
@THW NinjaScopez I believe you should always record the soloist(s) first THEN the accompaniment. This is because the rhythm section (in this case) should be reactive to what the soloist is doing, and therefore needs to let the soloist take the lead and dictate the vibe of the solo (harmonically, rhythmically, etc.) If the rhythm section records first it will just sound like a backing track (not good). For this one, I made a practice track of drums, bass, and keys, and we recorded the saxophone parts first. Then I recorded the keys, then Mike recorded the bass part, and finally Dom recorded the drums. I always save drums for last!!
@thwninjascopez
@thwninjascopez 4 года назад
Dave Pollack gotcha. I have heard drums being saved for last for stuff like big band charts, and the rest of the band just plays to a scratch drum track, but I haven’t heard of it for soloing. It makes sense though, thanks for getting back to me!
@thwninjascopez
@thwninjascopez 4 года назад
Seq Cisneros it seems that Dave agrees with you. And this makes sense. I wonder why I was told to do it the other way around... the people telling me to do it the other way around weren’t idiots. They were people who recorded stuff for Disney, Warner Bros, wrote stuff for the tonight show band when Doc was running it. But this way seems a lot better.
@sequoyahcisneros8719
@sequoyahcisneros8719 4 года назад
@@thwninjascopez Well, maybe since it was with Warner Bros Disney etc (for films) there was a written out solo with certain key points that needed to be accentuated for the horn player by having a pre recorded comper, that's the only reason I can think of. I haven't played for a movie/TV soundtrack though, so this is just speculation

Sorry, to jazzy.. i can't feel Christmas through this. Sounds like a soft jazz performance, but it does not evoke Christmas. Jazz genre is not the best for this. Anyway it is a great video, with a great performance, and the most important, really great musicians (i love you like brothers), so, many thanks for thinking about Christmas, and congratulations for this good musical work! (Sounds great)
