Fast glass cannons can work in Singles, but they need a lot of things to go their way. In the good old days, Arena Trap let Dugtrio force things to go its way, but Arena Trap is banned in Singles now and VGC seems to be tailor-made to fuck over frail Pokémon as much as possible.

A little mixed, I do love your changes! Very in-line with their designs, and I love sonic underground! But I feel your analysis doesn't get as deep as it should? You get the part where Dugtrio does ONE thing and one thing well, but you don't elaborate on it! Dugtrio's arena trap allows it to trap counters and checks to the player's win con- In gen 3, Dug traps Blissey to enable Suicune and traps rock resists (like rock and steel types as you said!) to enable Aerodactyl. Dugtrio is balanced in gen 3 because you are heavily encouraged to run flying and levitating pokemon to avoid spikes anyways so it doesn't harm the meta. Good balance! You can use Dugtrio to help you secure certain match-ups, but won't help you in others. Risk and reward! However after gen 3, flying and levitating teams becomes less popular. Now it does it's job.. too well. Dugtrio was used on gen 7 stall for it's ability to eliminate any wallbreakers, you could technically use grassy terrain or air balloon strats but then you're worse off against the rest of the metagame. It's currently in this odd position where it's too good or far too much. I understand that you were rushing but it is unfortunate to miss out on so much nuance. Hopefully this helps a bit!

Going with the garden eel idea we could make a new ability for wugtrio called gardener which could give it the sap sipper ability plus grass stab or the ability to ignore grass as a type when attacking, dealing neutral damage to all grass types.

I like the idea of a much bulkier Alolan Dugtrio! Personally I think I would lean into the bulk and give it some good defensive/support moves (some healing, status, hazards, maybe a switch move), but Huge Power definitely keeps in the theme of the -trios being defined by their abilities. Nice video!

How about giving them a version of Arena Trap that also traps flying and ghost types?

Some people don’t like Alolan Dugtrio but I like it way more than the original. Love the silly hair!
