As a little break from all my other projects I thought I'd slip this one in to satisfy my want to get a Lancaster on my shelf. It shouldn't take too long?? In part one we cover fuselage interior assembly and painting, building the wings and tailplanes and getting the fuselage closed up. (Includes how I do it tips on wing assembly)
Suitable for all ages with no swearing.

Thanks Nigel, I bought this kit last week and just found this series, sure it will be a priceless find to make my build way better than if left on my own :)

Paul Walpole so glad to hear it. Just don’t follow my lead word for word, my references may be incorrect?

Reading some of the comments, it would seem that some modellers aren't able to get their heads around having fun building a kit with faults. Your excellent rail gun videos show how to 100% correct a plastic kit, but sometimes building out of the box makes a refreshing change. Keep up both the detailed and the fun builds, they can coexist side by side. Atb, Heath.

StrikeEagleModels Scale aircraft. I have it. How do I deal with the raised panel panel lines?

AksIS_ ArchON Sanding down and re scribing But its a mammoth task.Personnel I wouldn’t even try it 😂 Get a kit without raised panel lines 👍

The Manchester had windows, the Lancaster didn't. The trouble is that there were a fair few Manchester fuselages kicking around the various manufacturers, which were then completed as Lancasters, there was no separate mark for this, so examples of the Lancaster I, II (Bristol Hercules), and III (Packard Merlins and American radio) all featured both fuselage types. In the same vein, while all marks could be fitted with the FN. 64 ventral turret, it's most commonly associated with the Mk II.

Nope. Lancaster's had Windows until late production. They were often painted out but were still there.

A fun build ? Certainly is. I think that sometimes its worth doing ( in whatever hobby / modelling you do ) just to keep your interest going and leave out any OCD you may have too ! FUN being the right phrase without getting bogged down with too much detail and research, which also helps to hone your building skills for that big one when it comes along, nice one Nigel. G

Hi Nigel, enjoying your Lancaster build, I have started mine here in Australia. When will you post the Airscale instrument panel build, I bought this but not game to start without some guidance, best wishes Wayne
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench 5 лет назад
It's coming soon Wayne. I have already removed the detail but will take it from square one for you. There are a couple of bits on the panel which I believe need to be shaved off before sanding the rest away.

I love the model kind of hard to build if you go scale crazy like I did. I ended up buying all kinds of acid etch brass parts and some engine resin parts to go hog wild. Never again way to small and you just can’t see anything inside. I have two more kits to build different versions of. So next time around I know better. Painting wise I plan to have a lot of fun. Thinking of making a diorama of a bombed shipping dock with one of my Lancaster’s.

It isn't the best of builds Lester, but I personally find shake and bake kits a little boring? I think the Airfix newer release will yield a better model though it is more expensive. I discuss this in the video.

My kits where made in the 1990-95 period so the quality is no where as good as today’s kits. I had to do a lot of filling and deal with warped parts and missing parts. So I did a lot of scratch building. If it was just a simple build. I could of done it blind folded. One of the big problems was my wings I had a lot of work to get them to fit well. I wonder how come the cost of kits are so much money these days? With all the computers and high tech equipment you would think the cost would go down not up.

Nigel’s Modelling Bench Thanks for the info I will look them up to ask for decals. The one beef I had about my model was it was all black the plastic making hard to build.

I just picked up this kit and somehow the plastic looks familiar almost like the old Hasegawa or Dragon kit but there aren't any identifying marks on the sprues though.

Hi Nigel, I subscribed as soon as I watched one of your episodes. You are a really great modeller, with a really honest and positive attitude. I must admit I'm being a bit of a coward. I have the HK Lanc. I'm letting you go ahead first, then I'll follow, sorry! Please keep posting, it's such a pleasure to watch something honest on my screen. Thank you. Did the get an answer from the Dambuster abortion guy? I was wondering the same thing! Keep up the great work. Peter

No reply as yet Peter, I'm sure there will be a good reason for it.

Hi Nigel. Do you know the difference between the kit your building and the revell 1/72 dambuster ?
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench 5 лет назад
Life In Serenity if you are considering a Dambuster Lanc Rob, go for the Airfix kit A09007. I have reviewed it on my channel, it is MILES better than the Revell kit. If you must have the Revell, make sure you get the later kit, not the very old one. The difference will be no too turret, different bomb load and different decals

Nigel’s Modelling Bench ty. What I’m looking for is the same 1/72 Lancaster kit that you are building. I was just curious if it was the same one. As I found one at a decent price. But I will continue to look for the kit your are building. Ty

The most obvious mistake about this model is the seating in the cockpit. As far as I know the Lancs had a pilot and copilot.
@NigelsModellingBench

Sorry no, just a pilot.

Black paint?? RAF interior green. Literally only the instrument panel face was Black. Everything else was green. Don't be taken in by post war mods or restorations
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench 5 лет назад
Hi Andy. I thought the nose section was black from day one, then the MkX had black cockpit?? Are you saying the bomb Aimee’s area is also green?
@andyrichardsvideovlogs8835
@andyrichardsvideovlogs8835 5 лет назад
@@NigelsModellingBench Hi Nigel. The RAF ones were all - green. The problem comes with the fact that VeRA the Canadian Mk X was substantially rebuilt to a long-range maritime patrol aircraft in the early 50s which included a side-by-side cockpit layout and the bomb-aimer's position becoming and observers post as well as other internal mods such as black paint. If you have seen the video Reunion of Giants there is significant interior footage of both VeRA and the RAF's Thumper in full colour and you can see how different they are.
