@@ralisgroffen nah, they are not individually but they add up when you have as many as the hermits explanation below: hand places leaves cause lag as they have several attributes associated with them, such as DistanceFromLog and the persistence tag which are regularly checked by the game you can simulate this by copy and pasting multiple custom trees onto a flat world Something to keep in mind is that the hermits use lots of them at a time (some areas have 40+) and they are fairly sizable as well

You should test out using small amethyst buds on the walls. They're more visible from the side and almost disappear from face on, mimicking that trickling effect. Also in the main build, hiding some amethyst blocks on the walkway to create a twinkly noise when walked on would be so cool and add to the atmosphere.

Hi tango! Just a tip for the stars if you don't know already: nature's "random" is not the same as our kind of random. We tend to place things in a proportional distance to each other, but nature doesnt really care (or think) about being orderly. So when im drawing/making a starry nightsky, to seem more natural we usually make a few stars really close, like clusters somewhere, and then a few void spaces in other places For reference look up for some images of the night sky! (And if you want perhaps add a few real constellations? I think it would be a really cool easter egg)

This build required, amongst other things, a wither skull farm, a wither rose farm, and a wither farm.

With the stuff he has built so far this season, the only grindy thing is the sand for concrete. Wither skele farm provides skulls for the wither, he built a Wither killing machine to kill hundreds quickly. Soul Sand (for Withers), gravel (for concrete), obsidian (for beacons), and leather (for item frames) all come from bartering. Black dye comes from the wither rose farm and glass from the villager trading hall. It's a lot of resources, but a lot of it can be done afk.

About how to arrange the star: You could instead of spacing the "stars" out evenly, create a milky way-like ring of dense starfields with a center bulge. And keep the rest a lot less dense.

A 'milky way' sort of image could be down-sampled to b/w and dithered to make a natural looking starfield pattern. Also, Item frames don't need a block to attach to, so you could have some of those 'stars' be floating in free space. That would be _(an enormous faff to make)_ really cool looking.

@@_Observer_961 yeah, I’d say personally technical red stone mumbo then doc, mumbo is a wizard with his red stone, but idk just figuring out and making decked out is absolutely wild and insane by tango, he legit made a full on real game inside of Minecraft, not one of those small mini games but a full on game in Minecraft where books legit change how things work, dude is a genius too, so idk, it’s crazy how many great red stone players they have, and non of them can really touch the technical abilities of sci crafts server. Which is crazy to think about.

Watched the cut at 9:16 at .25x speed. You really faded the nether into view even if it was visible for only 2-3 frames. That's another level of dedication! Also, loooooooove the Beacon effect you gave to the hub.

Tango, this build is shaping up to be amazing, but please, please, put a constellation of some sort in this build. I think it'd be so cool to look out of a window in the Astral Library and see Orion or the Big Dipper or another very recognizable constellation.

I’m sure he’s already planning on doing that. He was already making small constellations just in this really tiny sample section. Would be pretty surprising if he didn’t continue that idea onto bigger sections on a bigger scale.

Also, seeing the Nether with absolutely no mob spawning in it is so eerie, yet so satisfying! When you said you wanted to do the Nether Hub, you weren't joking, you're really going above and beyond; it already looks so incredible!

In season 5 Cub achieved a pretty cool star effect in his nether hub by burying end rods in the walls. You could mix those in as well allowing you to budget your nether stars more efficaciously.

Beacon beams aren't very laggy on their own, however *changing* the beam is, so be careful about changing the color or blocking/unblocking the beams on a redstone clock because that could cause problems. In the past people have made rainbow beacon beams by moving colored glass over a quad-beacon with pistons, and that sort of thing has definitely caused lag.

Yes but they'll mostly cause client lag whereas the item frames will cause server lag which is their main concern.

Instead it's best to change the beamas it rises so the "stars" are static but not like lines of blue or pink ect.

Also- dropping the beacons as low as possible so any piston noise is too far away to hear is a good idea.

Tango, I know you mentioned before in a live stream about having roof access in this hub. I had an idea... if you make a 9x9 hole, filled with open fence gates, you could then have someone like Beef make a galaxy cloud map set to cover the fences with locked frames, like you did for AmongUs "vents". This way, to get to the roof, you have to fly through the galaxy!

Maybe just place stars above the “horizon” and up in the “sky”? Also, an obsidian-and-crying-obsidian Milky Way diagonally across the “sky” would be nice.

Cub did something similar a few seasons back for his personal nether hub. What he did for stars was put recesses in the walls and then place End Rods in the back, and as you moved about the hub, the "stars" would appear to bling in and out of existence depending on the angle of how you viewed them. Might be a less lag intensive way of filling up space on the walls.

The beacon effect just blew my mind :O Idea though, getting colored glass above already colored beacon beams can change its color vertically (so that in a line doesnt only show up blue for example) *Not to forget stacking colored glass can intensify certain colors and mix them up Its looking sick!!

Ever since they introduced us to the wither and their nether stars, I've often dreamed of this room in Minecraft but never felt I had the time to put into making it. The sheer number of nether stars alone marked the task as "impossible" when I first thought of it. Thanks for making my impossible dream a reality, Tango... I'm still probably never gonna be able to do it myself. :D

Seriously transports me into a calm, starry sky with just this one corner! Maybe glow squid ink on some of the item frames to make a few stars pop a little more to add another level of variation? Could use them to make constellations if the effect is prominent enough

"heaaad over to the nether" was _one hell_ of a screen wipe! As for ideas it seems like the hub is big enough to have both the regular hub and the upside down from season seven under it; as long as call backs are being done. Mirroring the build top and bottom would be a very castlevania way to both create interesting spaces for portals to go, but also expose more of the amazing background "night sky".

Hey Tango, with 1.18 its a localized mob cap, so there was probably another hermit in the nether at the time, which freed up some mobcap. I would calculate a hermit threshold (say you dont reasonably expect more than 4 hermits to be in the nether near the hub at once) and get that many mobs (280).

Oof, that's a lot of mobs, and there will definitely be times with more than 4 Hermits in the nether at once, especially if the nether hub is so stunningly beautiful! Maybe a little behind the scenes server magic needs to happen, but whatever solution they come up with, it's worth it for the view.

I love the use of the nether stars, it makes me wish the enchantment effect on them wasn't synced up so you'd get individual twinkles. You could try take an element from Grians midnight alley from s8 and put some floating candles throughout. I'd suggest trying the end rod and glass layers trick as well but the black cube does convey the endless effect quite well.

For the rest of the library, if you want to keep the hub dark but still have things visible, you can enclose lights in tinted glass and they won't emit any light but will still glow.

I would suggest **not** having the stars be evenly spaced out. Put some of them in clusters and leave some spaces blank, it'll look much more believable.

I have to imagine that heavy handed as the zombie villagers is, a lot of the hermits are going to appreciate Tango just taking a massive mobproof brush to sooo much of the central nether, instead of limiting it to just the inside of the hub.

People are worried that the ghast spawn happened because mobcap depends on the number of players in the area. Definiely sounds like a HHH project, but it could be desastrous if people turn up to help and suddenly the hub gets flooded with mobs.

A wavy nebula, in purple, blue, and dark gray stained glass. The darker cool colors will blend into the skybox, while giving an additional 3d effect.

Hey, Tango. You should get more zombie villagers in you mobswitch. With only 70 if two players are in the nether at the same time the mobcap gets raised and mobs will spawn again.

Isn't the mob spawning now localised to individual players, I saw that in an ilmango 1.18 snapshot video. Each player has a mob cap of 70 now

@@sakikogookheng oh, fair point! But I still think overlapping "spheres" might add to the local mobcap and the Nether Hub is probably an area with lost of passengers. Just to be safe I'd up the mobswitch to 140 or 210 zombie villagers.

If beacon beams are kept two blocks behind the wall, then the wall can be closed without the beacon beam stopping. This helps in achieving the twinkling effect and does not cause lag due to beacons being turned on and off.

Ghasts for some reason occupy the same mob cap space as the striders, so all you need now is enough striders at the area so ghasts can't spawn.

Maybe you could get Cleo to help by adding some floating, locked, invisible armor stands with nether stars so that there's a bit more depth? Right now, as cool as the effect is, it's still a bit flat. You can kind of make out the shape of the box because the decorations are only 2D

The only problem is I could see that causing some performance issues. The item frames already can cause issues and if I remember correctly armor stands are worse for this

With no mobs spawning and no farms in the area any lag cause by armour stands would probably be negligible anyway. I think using only armour stands and not putting any on the floor/walls/ceiling would ultimately make a way nicer effect - the item frames kinda give away the shape of the cube.

Add droppers randomly on the cube roof. Then trigger them randomly and it'll drop a nether star then have a few hopper minecarts grab them from under the floor again, which in turn will reload the droppers. No idea if this will work properly, but the falling star effect could be cool

Tango you said rooted dort is pain to get. Well in the taiga forest, when you first fly there you can see an Azalea tree 😄 You'll get like 5-7 stacks of rooted dirt from one tree 😊

Tango, place a few of the stars away from the walls, using floating black concrete blocks, to break the flatness. That'll add some parallax to the star field.

While that idea is great,I think it would be a bit dangerous for Hermits to fly around with blocks floating that they can't really see. I saw another comment that proposed kind of the same idea, but with locked floating armor stands instead; if I remember correctly there is no collision with those, so that might be a way to do it, but then it may add too much lag.

I think it was Grian that put end rods behind black glass that made streaking stars that looked like a spaceship going into light speed stretching the stars. Not sure that would work here but it looked cool.

This is so cool! Great job Tango! I have an idea for an effect you could use in the “Astral Library.” What if in the roof of the box, you had small visible compartments where dispensers were hooked up to really slow timers, so every once in a while you might see a shooting star(arrow, snowball etc) in the roof of the night sky. Hey tango! chances are you wont see this but I thought it might be interesting if you put colored glass in some of the walls with a low light emitting object behind it (like a magma block or maybe even a crying obsidian). I really liked the video and thank you for all the amazing content!

Tango's concrete grind reminded me of this trick, so I figured I'd put it here so more people can know about it, if you want to afk in Minecraft while holding left or right click, you can hold down whichever mouse button you want, press f3 + T, then release the mouse button while it's loading. This will keep the mouse button held down in hand until you press it again (for those that are curious, I believe f3 + T is supposed to be for reloading your resource pack)

One idea that I recall seeing another hemit doing last season (maybe it was mumbo or grian?) could be to encase sea lanterns or other light blocks in tinted glass to use as chandeliers. It miiight be cool but it also miiiiiight throw the scale off and look terrible with the tiny twinkley stars. Absolutely looooove this build so far, it's insane and beyond mega! So excited to see more!
