Josh, You know that I LOVE everything you have done with this kit. That is exactly what I was trying to do with the Gig-Lite kit from L back in 1998. Of course I’m still using mine, but the Gig-Lite kit has not been made now since 2008. You made this concept so much cooler and more practical. Hats off to you. I find that with my gigs today, I use a kit like this now about 50% of the time. You really dialed it in. Light weight, no stands, great sound, easy transport, small footprint. That is the ticket. Great design work across the board. Proud of you. CONGRATS.

Honored by your response Jim! Thanks so much! Your well-used Gig-Lite was certainly an inspiration to the design of these kits!

I’ve been playing since 1972 and am looking for my ultimate kit. Not second hand, not something I got on sale. Something unique I can be proud of. I have a feeling it’s going to be one of your kits

Josh, have you considered any mods to the BR3 mount to make it less of a leaf-spring sort of design? I find that when using the BR3 for a mounted cymbal, there's quite a bit of bounce in the BR3. It's not terrible, but I suspect something anchored at both ends would eliminate a lot of the bounce. For vibrations parallel to the mount, like with floor or rack toms, the issue isn't as pronounced, but with vibrations normal/perpendicular to the mount, the BR3 is basically a leaf spring, with all of the design characteristics that implies. Whether there would be a market for it, I don't know, but it could be a "less-suspension" version of the Ludwig Atlas mount, which I also own, and is quite a beefy boy. Something else I'm finding is that with aluminum's flexibility being 3-4x of steel, the aluminum l-arm ends up being very bendy, and the more traditional "l-rod plus sleeve" is a better choice for me, and is equal in mass to the cymbal tilter, which is cast brass and fairly massive. You can never eliminate flex, but the stiffer the rod, the more energy you transfer to the cymbal.

This is what alot of drummers are looking for lately. You can see how the market caused major brands to offer kits like these the last few years. The Yamaha stage custom line even put out a Hip gig version this year. I myself bought a Tama Neo Mod kit ant love it. It sounds amazing and is more portable with a 10x20, 7x12, 9x14 arrangement. The Yamaha went a step further and put a utility snare into the 14" floor tom. But they missed the price point at $699. When you compare the Yamaha Hip kit to their other Stage custom kits, the pricing is way too high, and personally I was a little insulted and put off...they put it into a novelty category by overreaching on the price...in my mind anyway. You guys seem to be innovative and pushing things forward, which is what someone like me and alot of others are hoping to see out of drum builders now. Your aluminum drums at shallower sizes are an example. Not to mention the snare side of things you are coming up with. And with the quality replacement parts and now I see this...an easy universal lug replacement that adds a clamp that will hold a cymbal arm or tom or whatever you want....! Brilliant 👏. I love my Tama classic Neo Mod with the super thin maple shells...but had I been aware of INDē drums, I think I would've chosen to spend my money on a Way Fairer(?) kit instead. BTW, you can thank Cody and the guys at Sounds Like A Drum for introducing me to your company and what you are doing as far as pushing things forward and trying new ideas. You are like the Jeff Babicz of the drum scene. Please keep doing what you're doing and moving forward. Thats what breeds innovation, competition, and creative leaps in any given field. 👍👍👍

Will your bass drum cymbal mount hold a 24 inch ride? If not what is the max size.
@IndependentDrumLab
@IndependentDrumLab 2 года назад
It will hold a 24" cymbal but since our brackets have built in suspension, the bigger and heavier the load, the more swaying movement the cymbal arm will have.

Awesome set up Josh! If I didn’t already have a small gig kit, I would definitely get this set up. I’ve been wanting to support local now that everyone is hurting, and since I’m in Toronto and you’re in Michigan, that would be close enough 😂 Btw, what cymbals are you using? They sound killer too!

Thanks Rafael! The cymbals are handmade by Ray Byrne of Byrne Cymbals- (byrnecymbals.com/) These are their Vintage Series- 22", 20", and 15" hats
