This was T-Pain's tweet that sent the internet into a fun conversation today...

My presentation all about how to copy keys from photos, molds, and more was at Wild West Hackin' Fest and can be seen here...
• Copying Keys from Phot...
I like that this is a real-world example of how this can work. It was fun to demonstrate and I'm glad that T-Pain already knows of the situation and has already planned to change the locks before he opens for business! I think it's great that he has this new venture for himself and I wish him the greatest success. 😁👍

i tried to warn a friend on fb not to post pictures of her new apartment keys. she told me that people cant actually make a key from a picture. a week later she invited me over and i let myself in with the key i made from the photo. the look on her face was priceless and a look of anger, fear and confusion. the only plus side was she now had a second key for her kid to have and didnt pay the scum bag land lord $100 for a spare one. i also proved to her that just cause a key says "do not duplicate" on it doesnt mean you cant take it to a place and have it copied.

@shura0107
@shura0107 2 года назад
It took me about 10-20 min the first time, and having never done it before. I had to scrap and restart once. It IS fiddly, no doubt, but doable. Worst case, you'll go "Is that a 5 or a 6?" And you usually get that when a bit of the depth or some other artifact is introduced, or it's so magnified it loses resolution. Then you have to make a guess on where the exact boundary is and measure there. That can be done by referencing other parts of the image. Try it. Give it a shot. It's not as difficult as one thinks. There's a shared large package box for a mailbox I know of. While it would be possible to copy the key, the lock is designed to retain the key. The physically weakest and most easily picked lock in the world, it's still infinitely better than leaving a lock unlocked or not using a lock at all. Sometimes people will just go around and see if a door is unlocked and if it is, they are opportunistic. Smart people know, locks discourage opportunity. Foolish people believe that locks don't stop anybody, not even kids. That's what the saying would be. I can't stand the phrase "locks only keep honest people honest". I have a feeling it was invented by a wise thief, to discourage people to use locks, so that they could steal things more easily.

It amazes me how many people I come across who have had things stolen from their cars because they don't lock them. Some have found nothing gone (as nothing to take) but the door ajar, sometimes with the interior soaked by the rain. It's like a shocking revelation to them that somebody might walk down a row of parked cars and just randomly try all the handles. I have seen it happen numerous times in some of the less nice areas of the UK that I have spent time in. But, I have also seen it once in a lovely rural setting and another in an "upmarket" area. Now home CCTV cameras and RING doorbells are becoming more popular, there is lots of footage from my local area of people randomly trying door handles, front doors and shed doors... Full of comments about how "I never lock my..." etc. Absolutely blew my mind that people DONT lock their cars/houses. Although, with one exception... A friend of mine owns a classic car with a fabric top, he removed the lock barrels because he knew of three other owners of similar cars who had their soft tops cut with a knife to gain entry. Ever since I watched RU-vid content on the topic, I become more aware of how fragile of a secret a key is. I am always hiding my mom's keys under letters or other stuff since the keychain is often laying on a table which you can easily see from the window. It's probably a quick phone snap away from figuring out all the biddings.... And you would know what door it is too. While I am not using a sheath myself, I strongly want to. I am a thermal imaging enthusiast and I can see it being possible to figure out information about a key (maybe not the bidding directly)... Which someone has in their pocket. thermal cameras are able to "see through" some material that is very thin(think plastic bags) but they see the emissive surface temperature, but metal is shiny. Never tested it tho. But since fingerprints can be seen with a thermal camera, you can probably see some part of the key even after it's removed. On the topic of tweeting(or otherwise 'leaking') a specific key. Could you manufacture a lock that will function normally and open with just the intended key. But purposely lockup/break if the falsely publicized key is inserted and turned? In a way to protect against this type of superstitious entry? I remember seeing a video a while ago about having a lock enter a safe state when picked without a specific counter attack.

Go over to the lockpicking lawyer's channel, he shows how masterkeying works, as well as a ways back he did a video on modifying a lock to trap incorrect keys. Since it requires a locksmith removing and dismantling the keyway to remove the false key, only do this on homes with more than one entry point.

This is hilarious, but it's also sinister AF. Especially since he's being transparent about him feeling 'scared'. T-Pain seems like a real good dude, and I would be tight for him, if someone really copied it, and did him wrong. I know this is just having fun, but there's a lot of soulless opportunists, that are on some "me me me", sociopathic, no respect for anyone, slimeball bull $#!T. The world would be a better place without them, in my opinion. I can't stand anyone who prays on other people. Thieves are only hanging by a hair above rapist. They're still at the bottom of the barrel in my eyes. Industrial security locks aren't cheap. Hopefully he can just change out the cylinders, instead of all of his security locks, and not show the new key to thousands, if not millions of people. This did make me laugh irl, though.

honestly though isn't it faster to just SPP the schalge than to file keys in the parking lot / on the side walk? if i were to attack this place i'd cut the keys from the pohoto, try them, if that fails grab a triple peak or city rake and a tension wrench if that fails tension wrench and spp

You could always cut multiple keys ahead of time and put them on a ring. You look a lot less suspicious trying out a couple keys vs raking a lock or busting out the clippers.

What software do you use for overlaying the gauge over the image of the key? I've tried a few and none allowed me to easily and independently stretch and or rotate the key image and/or the gauge image... the ones I've use, it never works out right.
