Let's discuss Pride and Prejudice 

the fact that ive read, listened to and watched this story multiple times and still watched your video for an hour is a testament to how well you explain it. also, totally I agree on Caroline being the one to tell lady Catherine about Elizabeth and Darcy, it was only recently bought to my attention that some people think it could've been mr collins and Charlotte accidentally saying something (im convinced Charlotte knew the entire time that Darcy had feelings for Lizzy)

I know it's an old video but I just wanted to say that you have such a pleasant voice to listen to and very wise and compelling way of speaking :)

You have done a marvelous job of analyzing Pride and Prejudice. This is one of my favorite literary artworks as well and I love that your in-deep analysis of the book was very well researched. My major admiration stems from the character arcs and developments that are exactly what each would do and the change in their character is driven gradually rather than forced after each plot point. For example, Mr. Darcy only realized that he could be another rich and snobby aristocrat by introspecting his behavior and changing it only after Elizabeth rejected him. He first is bitter because his pride is hurt, but eventually, he finds his faults. Or in another example, Elizabeth realizes that she loved Mr. Darcy when they met in Pemberley after months of spending time apart, re-reading his letter, realizing that she might be wrong in judging him too quickly. These kinds of small developments are the reason I am attracted to such artwork. If you have another suggestion like this, I would greatly appreciate it. I also would request you to give an in-depth analysis of the side characters such as Mary, Kitty, Mr. and Ms. Gardiner, Col. Fitzwilliam, Georgiana, or Charlotte, etc. for another video. I know they are barely mentioned in the books, but Jane Austen has given a lot of care in developing these individuals and making sure they are as real as possible and I wanted to know another perspective of what motivations these characters have. P.S. You have a very calming voice, and the production of this video is pretty good. Keep up the good work!

I always had in my mind that Elizabeth is also prideful not just prejudiced and Mr. Darcy is also the same. Both of them are the a combination of both P & P.

I just finished reading Pride & Prejudice for the first time. Your video was the first discussion that I watched. You did a tremendous job of explaining the plot and analyzing the characters. Thanks for doing this. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I was particularly intrigued by your analysis of Darcy and Elizabeth's relationship and how that aligned with the title of the book. Darcy = PRIDE. Elizabeth = PREJUDICE. I did not catch that in my reading, though I did identify PRIDE in many of the characters and certainly PREJUDICE in them as well. I certainly appreciate you taking the time to do this video and will be watching your videos more as I continue on my reading journey. I'm now a subscriber.

personally, I find Jane Austen's novels quite frustrating. I have to force myself to study all her works while maintaining a mindset that she was a genius which is pure torture. With that in mind, had she written just one such novel... I might've still liked her. Your videos are, hands down, really awesome. I'm somewhat able to bear Austen only because of your enthusiasm in explaining her. I believe given the talent she possessed; Austen could've written some actually great novels. But unfortunately, the mindset of Austen that can be understood through her novels is sooooo frustrating and sad. I feel this way maybe because of the obvious century difference. Overall, I can only give her liberty coz of the fact that during the time feminism was just budding, her novels do reflect a little bit of that feminist view, showing how women aren't a mere commodity to be owned. Thank you for uploading such insightful videos which aren't boring even when they are 1 HOUR long!! KUDOS to you.

In two weeks I read Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility reading that last 100 pages with out getting up but once. I simply adore Jane Austen. I recently read Sentimental Education, Les miserable and the Lady of Camellia. All very fine books, I wonder if you are familiar with any of these. I love your talks very much. They are so enjoyable and I agree with so much of what you say. Your voice is warm and lovely, and I find your mannerisms very charming and endearing. Thank you so much for this good work. ( I just yesterday figured how to leave you a comment after listening to you these last several weeks). I'm goi g to order Pamela today. Also I'm am reading Emma but not with quite as much gusto as I read through the other J.A. books I mentioned. You are so right when you say this is relationship driven, and of course J.A. Is so very good at understanding the male and female ego. She is a sociologist,psychologist, and political scientist all in one. She has such a refined understanding of human emotions and tendencies.

I loved this summary. The only point I disagree on is that I think it was Charlotte Lucas (via her husband) that spilled the tea that alerted Lady Catherine to the fact Darcy had an interest in Elizabeth. I love this book so much, though.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful analysis of one of my all time favourite novels. The only thing I never really understood was why Mr Wickham ran away with Lydia. She was not rich so I was never really sure what he had to gain by it. Thoughts?

I have a bit different opinion on the title explanation. I believe this is the same case as with S&S. There it's obvious that Elinor stands for sense and Marianne for sensibility, yet we are privy to the amount of Elinore's emotion and see some (and at the end a good amount of ) reason on Marianne's side. To me, it seems that Darcy's pride stems from his social prejudices ( which elevate him above the rest) and Lizzy often forms her prejudices based on her pride. When he slighted her, he hurt her pride and it, I believe, laid ground for her prejudiced opinion on his shallowness and makes her susceptible to believe him capable of evil. He also is too prejudiced against people of lower circle than his own, to expect any virtue in their association even before he meets them(Gardiners). At the same time it seems to me like Lizzy takes pride in her prejudices - Mr. Collins, Mr. Darcy and so on - once she sets her opinion on someone she sticks to it and it is hard for her to considers all sides of the character. It feels like in both Lizzy and Darcy these two characteristics are interlinked together, despite their own nature being diametrically opposite. Anyway, they are the favourite couple of all times definitely because they seem like two magnets - at the same time capable to attract and repel each other (depending on which side they face each other, I guess). On top of that, for us ladies, it is the ultimate version of a Cinderella story😅. Thanks for your review of my (2.) Favourite Austen novel. It feels like joining an international book club now. Oh. And ps.: I have heard another opinion on who spread the L&D marriage gossip to lady Catherine, being it the Lucas's - Collins route. I did no observe this myself at first (Actually, at the time I was not pondering about this), but when rereading, I did see the hints of this being quite possible.

Also I wanted to point out that it was actually the Lucases who spread the rumor of soon to be congratulations (of Darcy and Elizabeth) to Mr and Mrs Collins , and that is how it reached Lady Catherine.

I disagree about your opinion that Charlotte Lucas, the daughter of a Knight and a landed gentleman (although new money) is of more humble status than the Bennet girls. Although she is an old maid with no money to speak of, she has brothers and one of them will inherit Lucas Lodge and could potentially take care of her, her mother, and her sisters. None of the Bennet girls would be better off as old maids with no money to speak of when their father dies. I recall Lady Russell of Persuasion being the widow of only a Knight and ranked just below a Baronet's daughters but above landed gentlemen. I can imagine Mr. Collins being proud to marry a Knight's daughter and impress Lady Catherine (who also married only a Knight). Mr. Collins first considered the Bennet girls for marriage because of their family relationship as his duty to his dead father. Once his proposal was turned down, he was free to do better. And along came Charlotte Lucas...

I disagree that Caroline Bingley spread the rumour about Darcy and Elizabeth I think it was Charlotte who knew exactly what would happen.
