Hi everyone! Here's my drawing of a Smoke Dragon! I've wanted to attempt this drawing for a while, but I wasn't sure how I was going to create the smoke effect. In the end, I decided to create ribbons of smoke with graphite pencils. It was so much fun to add the transparent layers. Let me know what you think. I propose a challenge; draw a dragon or character facing to the right. I see you pretty much consistently draw dragons/characters from the same direction, would be cool to see if you noticed a difference in thought process/difficulty etc. As always though, a fantastic drawing!

Thanks so much for the feedback! :) I often draw characters facing this direction to fit the same style that I've been trying to develop since starting the fantasy art series, but I'm absolutely open to trying some different layouts! It really would be interesting to see if it changes how I approach the drawing! Thank you again. I really appreciate it.

From my experience as a designer,, drawing products or characters facing different ways and angles often makes me stop and think about the next step and reconsider the look of the sketch. Always good to break habits! I have even started drawing with my left hand to give myself a challenge. :)

Can't belive what im seeing. I have been dreaming about drawing dragons like this with no success. I have so much fantasy in my head but I cant draw it like I want it to be. Recently, I've been thinking about how to paint smoke and realized that it's incredibly difficult to express something whose main characteristics are transparency and movement. This is a GREAT method for doing just that, and I'm really grateful to you for sharing it with us. The finished effect is perfect, and it's obvious the dragon is made of smoke even without the title. Thank you so much for sharing with us!

Hi Chris! That was amazing! What a great idea! You asked for suggestions, and I see that others have requested different types of dragons, but when I saw you do that amazing smoke, I was really impressed with that whole transparent idea. It got me to thinking of how balloons can be drawn transparent and I wondered what your dragon would look like with a kind of wispy "rainbow" smoke pattern. Or even better since it's a dragon, using transparent fire colors!

I found all your other dragons Very good but this one shows a new level of creativity and skill. Fantastic concept and design. The smoke billowing out of the comic panel was the cherry on top. Great work my dude!
