In March of 1975, I drove south (opposite the direction in the video) along that most precipitous stretch of U.S.550 as dusk was falling. I was the only car around when I broke into a full-blown sweat upon realizing that water trickling across the road to the cliffs on the right was freezing. The ice strips were only a few feet wide, but every one on an outside curve sent my 1968 VW Beetle sliding toward oblivion until my front wheels made contact with dry pavement on the other side. The left-to-right flow of these patches proved that the pavement sloped to the outside -- a fact that to this day, I find hard to believe was tolerated.
I noticed you had some difficulty staying in your lane on the curves. Better take it a little slower. The top speed limit is 25 mph if my recall is correct.
