Let's Fix: Rare Sony NW-S205F OLED Replacement

I've fixed more of these "tube" sony mp3 players since the release of Persona 3 Reload than the past decade! Here's another one that came in for a simple battery replacement but turns out the screen was also dead. Luckily I was able to find another sony model that uses the same display so let's try to swap the working screen into this customer's player. This is definitely one of the hardest repairs I've done given how fragile these screens are so attempt at your own risk!

Found one of these locally, but can't get over my mind on buying something that has components that can break anytime, irreplaceable. The screen on this thing.. If it's gone, it's gone! Would be a waste of money to try to source a 20 year old working screen for it. Thank you for repairing it though, and a quality repair at that. Doing lord's work. Hope the customer uses it for years to come.. Just really can't imagine buying one personally.. Instead, I think I will continue with my iPod Classic. The peace of mind it gives, knowing that I can source cheap parts that were made in millions, for every bit of it..

I almost bought one too but it's too expensive, hard to fill (sonic soundstage, windows xp) and unfortunatly with not enough storage in it (plus most of them need some repair).

@@potatoman4666 I check the nw-s703f, cool with album artwork etc... but a nice one it's 100€ on my local "craiglist" and after that I have to remove the battery so neh (for just 1Gb of music).

Cool, I think that's an MP3 players. it's great to watch stuff here again. I recommend a fireretarding carpet, so when small things fall, it doesn't go too far. God bless us engineers (I'm of a different kind).

Hey man, I just recently got my hands onto one of these and it's in need of some repairs. The battery and screen need to get replaced, the battery does charge and it does pop up on my pc when i plug it in, but I don't think the battery is good and the screen is just super dimmed down and can't be seen when turned on. Is this something we can work together on? 🙇‍♂🙇‍♂

I have a few questions if you plug it into a computer to charge and the screen doesn't come on that means that the screen is bad right? if so how much would you charge to replace the batteries one two of them and to replace the screen. if it's to hard/expensive to find a replacement screen I can go without

I just replaced my battery on my NW-s202f and it says it’s fully charged and has the same issue as before. Any suggestions on what might be happening?

It's possible the new battery sat on a shelf too long before it was sold to you or there's something wrong with the charge controller chip on your player's mobo.

The nwe394 is ridiculiously expensive. I don't know why. It's a very basic mp3 player.
