One of my favorite interactions with Jeff was at his concert in Atlanta, December 4th 2021. Me and two of my friends went to go see the show and so far Oceanator had torn the roof off the place. Then Slaughter Beach, Dog came on stage. Me and one of the friends I was with were huge MOBO fans and we were excited to see what Jake and Ian were up to. As we were enjoying SBD’s set, we very clearly saw Jeff leaning over the balcony overlooking the stage trying to kinda hide himself from view. My friend then pulled out his phone, went into Snapchat and typed a big “HI JEFF” and pointed the screen in Jeff’s direction. I waved at him laughing and he just started laughing and doing the “no no no not yet” motion so we laughed and put the phone down. Good times

"I'm only 20"... revisit these albums when you hit 30. if Worry and and We Cool? hit you at 20, they are easily going to resonate again in future years. Cheers on a great video.

I will never get over how far Jeff went by doing it his own way. I remember finding Jeff during the Bomb! years, playing guitar with only an ipod for all the other tracks and blowing the roof off of the local punk venue in my area (a log cabin of all places). I followed him through Bomb and beyond. I remember when he opened for a bigger band, after We Cool? came out, in a much bigger than a log cabin venue, there was not many people around him so I went up to express how crazy it was to see him play a venue like this, bringing up bands that he played with at that log cabin. Jeff being Jeff, also expressed amazement at his circumstances. And then to see him get more popular over the years to the point where people only know him as Jeff Rosenstock not Jeff from Bomb! I was (and am) weirdly proud of him, since all I did was support him. Glad to see Jeff have continued success because he deserves it, and more.

i had no idea who jeff rosenstock was before stumbling into this video but i'm so glad to have found it. nothing more exciting than hearing a true enthusiast of a genre and subculture breaking down the works and ideas that fascinate them about it. just saved 'worry' to my spotify library and can't wait to dig in.

I started listening to Jeff's music in 2005, when I was 18 years old and here we are 18 years later (I am definitely one of the ageing millennials described in We Cool/Worry). It's been a wild ride and it's amazing how well you've captured his entire career in this video, given you would have been about 2 years old back when Album Minus Band released. Props to you, mate! You nailed understanding and describing the lyrical content of We Cool and Worry and why it means so much to my generation; A generation constantly made to feel like we will always be children due to so many factors stacked against us, and not having the opportunities for stability that our parents had. The constant scramble (and failure) to achieve the life of luxury many of us grew up in and around forced us to put emphasis on the importance of the people around us that we loved and value every friendship and connection we made with others. The almost 'found family' feeling of late BTMI embodies this so well. I'm really pleased this stuff resonates with you.

I'm 5 minutes into this video and already in tears over your description of WORRY. It's one of the most touching pieces of art I've ever experienced. "The highs and low of loving someone under late capitalism", that's exactly it. This album is about being faced with the horrors of capitalism and choosing love and hope over cynicism and doom in spite of it all. It may be my favourite album of all time. I can't listen to it without turning into a sobbing mess.
@hugobecookin

WORRY changed my life. I never even enjoyed that type of music prior, but the cover art won me over so I gave it a try after years of putting it off. the themes and emotion that gets jam packed into these tight, hard hitting earworms changed everything. I don’t understand how anyone could see it as anything less than superb.

38:13 I’m the account that uploaded the Nirvana and Radiohead bootlegs. It was funny to see the shitty cover art I devised for the Nirvana bootleg in your video. I made it so brazen to catch peoples eyes as a Nirvana ska tribute. At the time eight years ago I didn’t think people would care to listen because of it being ASOBs but would as a ska/Nirvana novelty. Obviously Jeff only got bigger over the last eight years. Also the Radiohead bootleg was released officially in some capacity online, so that’s the actual cover art. But the Nirvana show I nabbed off Kraytracker in early 2010s was an actual boot and had no artwork. I only uploaded it (along with everything on my channel) so I could listen online to it easily.

Thank you for uploading those. The Radiohead show has some amazing covers of those songs. You did all of us old ska punk fans a big service when you uploaded those. My personal fav on that is Fake Plastic Trees, but I love the cover of Creep from ASOB’s full discography album that had 2 live shows from the Downtown on it (that’s where Creep is).

Just did the maths, I’ve been listening to Jeff for close to 19years… that’s almost half my life… I’ve had this video in the ‘watch later’ list for a while, I’ve bit hesitant to watch it, probably because the memories and emotions it would bring up, now here I am at 1am and (not) quite a few in awake and thinking about that time btmi covered little boxes for Weeds season 8 episode six…. Great job on the video!

three cheers for disappointment is an all time classic imo. i consider it the definitive third-wave ska-punk album, at least as far as like the specific sort of scene/subgenre Jeff is working within goes. it's just a perfect expression of the angst of that specific place, time, age, all of it.

BTMI introduced me into the world of diy music, going to basement shows and realizing that I'm not the only one who struggles with things I thought should be embarrassing. His music literally changed how I live my life. I literally didn't ever have friends or leave my room until I discovered underground music. I would have been a depressed recluse if not for this music.

I absolutely agree with your observations regarding Worry v. We Cool. I am currently 40, but discovered Jeff Rosenstock at the age of 35 and We Cool really hit a nerve for me. Don't get me wrong, I love Worry, but We Cool with its lyrics about coming to terms with aging and realizing you maybe aren't where you want to be (or where society expects you to be) in life was really powerful and made feel like I wasn't alone in that struggle.

His music really resonated with me in highschool. Almost turning thirty and it has felt really good to get back into his music. All of his failures remind me of my failures, but it's so comforting to know I am not alone. Some of my favorite albums that he worked on are: Get Warmer, Scrambles, Vacation, I'm So Tethered, We Cool? (This one really resonates with me. I'm Serious I'm Sorry makes me cry everytime.), and I Look Like Shit. BTMI! is probably one of my favorite bands of all time. I am really glad that I have had his music in my life.

I saw Jeff at a house show in wisconsin and it was an amazing show, but the house was so small that not everyone could get in, so Jeff said he would just do the whole show twice 😂. He played the entire show, then we rotated everyone out of the house and brought in the next wave so he could do the whole show again. I was in the first show so I didn’t want to take up space at the second show, but I have to assume he did the whole show a second time. LEGEND! He was also hanging out talking to everyone in line and was such a chill dude. My friend got me into him with btmi and I fell in love with his solo stuff immediately. GOAT

also 100% agree that 3 cheers is the best ska punk record to date. at the very least it has the most chaotic energy and pushes the familiar elements of the involved genres to their full potential, allowing jeff to move on musically afterwards knowing that he left his mark on ska by thoroughly anchoring ska’s relevance to in the modern pop punk landscape. and jeff has always returned to ska to make sure nobody has forgotten how good it can be. Adults was a big ska hoorah before the indie shift with vacation and then ska dream came out at the perfect time to inject fun into a fucked up world

There are songs I love on every album he's ever been involved with, but the albums that I love all the way through and keep returning to year after year are Vacation, Worry, and No/Ska Dream. This is kind of weird coming from someone who grew up on ska-punk and even opened for BtMI way back when with one of my own ska-punk bands, but I think Vacation is where he really hit his stride (which to me feels like the first album of his solo phase).

There's a couple of information missing in your video: 1- The 7 Summer EP is not a 2 songs EP, it's a 9 songs EP with the bonus track. I do vividly remember being obsessed with this EP back in the day. Most of the bonus tracks are cover, but let's face it Jeff is the king of covers so for me it's an essential listen. 2- The reasons why Shinobu is credited on the Jeff Rosenstock RYM is because Mike Huguenor (the frontman of Shinobu) plays in Jeff Rosenstock. I do remember reading on Jeff Facebook page back when WORRY came out that Worstward, Ho! was one of his favorite record. So it's no suprise that Mike ended up becoming a member of Jeff Rosenstock, it shows that Mike had a lot of influence on Jeff guitar work. Also, you youngin are sleeping way too much on Mike Huguenor in general, whether it's with Classics Of Love or Hard Girl (especially), Mikes work is essential for any Jeff fan in my opinion. 3- Jeff as played and produced a lot of records. For example he did a lot of instrument in some of the earlier AJJ record (Can't Maintain comes to mind), so making a list of every record he played in is kind of hard to do, but you did a pretty good job here. Oh and you guy's are sleeping on Pornocracy like way too HARD. Also Get Warmer is top 3 best Jeff record, the writing is as good as Get Warmer in my opinion.

I'm watching this on my phone, am 16 minutes into the video, and there's already been 4 ad breaks. Which I find ironic.

Unfortunately that's not my doing :( I have no monetization power over this video because of the usage of the music

With the release of Hellmode your comments on No Dream marking the second act of his solo career were prescient.

I remember making a cover of “SpongeBoards/Baby Waves/ The Shit That You Hate” for volume 1 of that Album Minus Jeff compilation years ago. Such a fun collection of songs by fans of Jeff’s music, (some very talented musicians too) super grateful it got a shoutout! Definitely check it out if you haven’t already.

If you love Jeff, drop EVERYTHING and listen to the japanese band GING NANG BOYZ (銀杏 BOYZ) first two albums. Jeff does a cover of their song "I don't wanna die" on I Look Like Shit. Listen to their original version and then dive into the most insanely loud, catchy, and rawkus album in Japanese punk.

He seems like a good guy and I've tried listening to his stuff dozens of times, but I just can't get into him. Not being a fan of pop punk or ska is probably the reason. Surprised he is 41, based on his sound I would have guessed he was in his twenties to be honest. Seems like he has quite a fanbase as well from live show footage I've seen.
