@@The_East_Charleston_Railway shouldn't be difficult ,make sure the damper is open ,smoke box has no leaks ,start on fire lighters add wood ,then char ,then coal ,make sure it has good draft on start up with compressed air or fan till you reach 30psi then switch to the locks blower

The first thing you do before buying a loco is join your local model engineer club/society and make friends with people who have built engines!

Hi Anthony, I have recently acquired a sweet pea with some minor jobs i'm going to try and fix and one of those is that the safety valve's accumulate. What do you think is the best way to tackle this? Take them apart and see? Or replace completely as it could form a safety hazard?
@EverythingAnthonySOS
@EverythingAnthonySOS Год назад
Hi there ,Depending on your Boiler code requirements there should be a min orfice diameter , accumulation will only be rectified by finding what the cause is , I would discuss the issue with your club boiler inspector seeking their advice can save many hours of head scratching

@@EverythingAnthonySOS Never thanked you for your awnser (woops) but better late then never: thank you for your awnser! In time since i took apart the safety valves and found out it was rust above the ball bearing which made them not work properly. I tried cleaning them up by bathing them in vinegar with the rust gone it showed it was not wise to continu with those valves as they are for safety after all. I now got a fresh new pair from Blackgates which fit perfectly! Tho they have a bit different shape with the addition of an outer locking ring at the top, meaning the old pipes guiding the steam through the roof wont fit the new ones. So here I was wondering if you could help me once more with some advice: How to best tackle this? I've seen pea's where it seems the pipe is just completely over the valve and seems not screwed down or anything, and i've seen pea's like mine where (on the old ones) the pipes and top of the valves were threaded so they could screw onto each other. This last method I don't deem wisely with these new valves as i don't want to alter the locking ring. Do you have any advise on what is the best/safest way, or suffeciant enough to easely solve this? Kind Regards, Scagen

I've just bought a part built sweet pea, it's a chassis that was a given up project with a new boiler but old cylinders, very similar problems to yours so thanks for sharing your experiences, most helpful

I'd suggest using the wording with reference to live steam and the track width of the scale locomotive your interested in eg 5"gauge live steam locomotive thanks for Commenting

it would be absolutely amazing to have one of these small steam engines, my whole life ive basically loved steam engines, and to be able to have small ones that can drive you around your backyard would be awesome, it would take work to make sure its in good condition all the time, but would be worth it with the amazement it would bring, hell my grandpa would be thrilled to have such a loco along with me

get rid of the adjustable cresent, they damage the nuts and bolts, get yourself a set of proper spanners
@EverythingAnthonySOS

Hi terry thanks for the advice ,unfortunately I was supplied a set of Laser cut Ba spanners that didn't fit as well they should and had no other choice at the time ......

Did you get the steam leak fixed in the smokebox?
@EverythingAnthonySOS
@EverythingAnthonySOS 3 года назад
Yes . both pipes were leaking which would account for poor drafting and high steam use , and running on 3 power strokes didn't help either !
