Hugo L. It’s because of electricity costs. When I got my first “nano” tank, tropical based, the same happened to me. It started with the lights being switched off, eventually the heater and then the filter. I had so many arguments till eventually I just gave up. I ended up losing my fishies 1 by 1. It was sad. It also wasn’t a very good setup as I had plastic decor and coloured gravel.. yes I know kill me now... but it was mostly because of my dad who went to the shop at the time with me to get the fish tank. Mind you I payed for everything with my own money but I couldn’t even choose the fishes. My dad overstocked it when I only wanted a school of small fish. He did it while I was at school and got home to find a pleco and 2 angel fish. The fish tank only held 26L of water. It wasn’t even properly cycled yet. My parents never listened to me. The only reason why at that time I was so picky with what I wanted inside it was because I got inspired with my friends huge salt water tank. It was beautiful. So many corals. I wanted to recreate the same. Not a plastic box. Now I’m all grown up and pay my own electricity and I have a big momma fish tank full of live plants half sand half “soil” Mwahahaha Edit: oh gosh, I also reminded myself that I told them how a water change is done and apparently I was super wrong. My parents made me empty nearly all the water from the fish tank and had me scrub decorations with fairy liquid. And then refill it with water from the tap. I wish I would have been smart enough at that time to go to RU-vid or something and search about fish care to show them. (Maybe at the time there wasn’t fish videos on RU-vid I don’t even know!) I guess I thought also that my parents should know what they were doing. My mother used to have a fish bowl year years ago on top of our microwave and it always had a gold fish in it...... LoL Thank god these things are now being spoken and such cool videos being made on the subject Sorry for the long comment 🤣 I got ahead of myself
@@FishForThought please i need help from you i have sone questions rhat google or betta forums dont have the answers please help me and my betta i need cuz its stressed and i need a profesionalist please
Ionatan Burciu make sure you don’t have a mirror in the tank too long and make sure the water flow is really slow and a warm temperature usually like 72 to 80 and make sure it has a circulation of oxygen maybe put some live plants in it and some moss balls or something that it can play with Also if you have other fish with it maybe take them out and put them in a different tank im not a professional but I’ve done some research also the ammonia might be high so test the water
My friend got a tank with around 1 or 2 gallons of space with a bad filter, barf gravel and *7 goldfish* and would always get sad and say 'They lived a good life' and then I would shout at him telling him that ammonia burns killed them so much to the point every time one of them died he would just be like 'Yeah, yeah I know they died from ammonia burns'
I'm sad cause ICH disease cause one of my tank to be infected and wiped out 95% of my fish... only one marble male and one panda cory left... thank goodness Chris decided to upload At least I found a little bit of happiness
I work at a grocery store that sells fish in our pet section and your videos have taught me more about fish care than ANYTHING they taught me for the job. I now steer people in the right direction for their fish not for their situation. And thank god i know what size tank to recommend for bettas now.
I just feel bad for all the fish i sold before finding the fish community. Havent had fish of my own since i was a kid but hope to someday when i get out of my tiny one bedroom apartment and have space. Id love to get a nice 75 gallon and fill it with a ton of live plants and natural hardscape to make a nice cozy home for a couple cichlids and school fish. Gonna treat those fish like the kings and queens they are.
I feel it, I’m between jobs right now and all these fish channels and my new aquarium hobby makes me want to work at a pet store and try to make a difference
Finally took the plunge! I'm going to pick up my 20 long in about an hour and I'm gonna get this whole process started. Lots of time and money about to be spent on my first tank! So glad I found your channel, super funny, and educational.
@@lykeprice9239 haha I actually sold my setup and fish to someone like 6 months ago. Not only was it too much for me too handle, but also I had to move houses. They're in better hands now!
Yeah.. that tropica aquasoil gave me real bad brown algae. It was thread diatom, really soft and very slimy when removed. It was still there a year after set up, and I change my water once a week, 50%. Recently gave up and changed it to dirted organic soil capped with sand, the problem disappeared. Green aqua has an algae guide page that i'd rly recommend. Apparently brown diatoms in low tech tanks and are a result of low light, high silicates or poor water quality.
I feel you with the betta aggression. Bought some pygmy corys for my 10 gallon and the A-hole chased them all until two went belly up out of stress. Cant be mad at him, my fault, not worth it just for an impulse buy.
Not sure you'll see this, but your tank you have tons of small creatures flitting about. I am desperate to introduce some microorganisms to my tank for my betta and guppies to nibble on. I've tried freshwater copepods but they disappear after a few months. What do you have in your tank, what would you suggest?
keeping the flow low is good and the plants real bushy. But if you have fish in the tank eventually they'll likely just all get eaten. You'll have to make a separate tank or bucket to continue culturing them
CO2 is not really the great secret for growing plants. It's nutritious substrate, good light and fertilizers in the water column. Am I wrong? Probably...
I put a nice juvenile female CT Betta into a community tank that had cherry shrimps. It's now a couple of years later and she's the fattest non giant Betta I've ever seen. The cherry shrimps that are still in the tank are the smarter ones that learned how to hide. The dumb ones got eaten.
4 and half minutes into the video = Actually starts talking about growing a plant carpet without CO2.... I would like to watch more of your videos if you touched the topic first and then talked about your tanks but I do respect your tanks and think they look great, Haha
i can’t wait to watch this new pearl weed carpet grow on your channel. i wanna try it in my own tank when the weather cools off enough to have live plants shipped to me!
I know this is one of your old videos (got here searching for pearl grass) but geez you are right about the betta shrimp combo!! My old betta was so placid and didn’t touch the shrimp. My new guy was vicious and ate 10 shrimp in 30min before I scooped him out!! Never again 🤦🏼♀️
Ordered some shrimp from Shrimp Fever... was debating on putting them with my Koi Betta.. Now I think I’m not gonna take any chances... Btw Thanks for the comment shoutout!
Another good carpeting plant? I was thinking Eleocharis parvula mini, Cryptocoryne parva, Cryptocoryne walkeri "Hobbit" or maybe dearf sag. I was thinking maybe a mix of different carpet plants to get different textures. Tank is dirted, around 30 L, 30cm cube.
Picked up a bundle of Java fern at my lfs yesterday for the planted Molly tank I'm setting up to replace my goldfish who passed last week. I wish I could get my Anubias nana to grow that fast (or at all), I've had it three years and it got covered with algae and Java moss until there was half of a leaf left.
Sometimes..stem plants as carpets start out great..for months. Then, the stems age,do not send up growth as fast..and even cuttings from those older plants..act old when planted in the now foming bare spots. It MIGHT be a good idea to order fresh plants after a year or so. Now,with me,Star Grass was going gangbusters until the Rainbows started to eat it. 🤷♂️ They never touched it for months than one female developed a taste for it at 2" and now over 3" she is nipping it faster than it can grow seems like. But..really,It was getting tiring making the Star grass stay low..2x a week in a non Co2 tank it needed trimming. Staurogyne repens is on my mind to try next as "cheap carpeting made easy"..!
My old betta got along well with my shrimp. She acknowledged that the shrimp were there and she would follow them around and stuff but she never lunged at them to try and eat them. She was just curious. She murdered my mystery snail though.
Me: Can I have a 10 gallon fishtank (with all proper supplies and care for my fish)?? Dad: no we have tank at home Tank at home: 0.25 gallon bowl with neon pink gravel
Not that early :< but this video chris if you see this, and if you don’t whoever who sees this have a good day, I’m dying since school started during this pandemic -love from Singapore 🇸🇬
i have a 60 gallon tall and anytime I want to do anything without taking out half the water (even with doing that it's still pretty deep) I have to get my entire arm wet -_- all the way up to my armpit (not touching my armpit mind you! that'd be very bad) it's annoying, but doing water changes everytime I need to trim or replant hornwort and my other fast growing water feeders is unreasonable
