Hello Lucas, this is a very informative video, I appreciate the details. I have a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring and I believe the part number for it is 39540-TG7-A42RM instead of the one you mentioned for the EX-L. A couple questions for you, if you don't mind: - I think the 2017 and 2018 models were required to be connected to your iPhone with a wire/cable , does Apple CarPlay now support wireless connections with these models instead so we don't have to deal with the wired connector? - Are there any concerns with having to change out the receiver along with this unit?

Thanks for the helpful video. I did this with an Elite model of the 2016 Pilot. Things are a little different on the Elite because there is a dvd player for the rear entertainment center below the climate controls. This makes the job more difficult. I had to remove one of the side brackets from the dvd player to get it out, and it was still in the way making it very difficult to turn the screws at the bottom of the radio. I finally got it done but it was not easy. Fortunately, I had the right tools around the house. Now I have Apple Carplay and it was worth the effort. Also, I had to pay close to $500 for a salvaged radio. People are on to this now and have driven up the price of salvaged radios. I bought one from a car with front end damage. I did this because there are very few wrecked Elites available and I didn't have much choice, but it worked out.

Thank you so much for your quick and clear video! I will soon be trying this with my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring. My question is do navigation instructions sync to the dash when using CarPlay? I couldn't stand the Garmin navigation system and don't want to pay to update the maps but the navigation instructions on the dash were nice.

I just did this tonight in 40 minutes in my 2016 EXL Pilot and it all went like clockwork with 2017 EXL stereo LKQ sent me. It wants the code so I’ll start calling Honda tomorrow.

I called the number Lucas provided and I got a code in 5 minutes. The operator said she had a list of five codes I would need to try till we found the right one. The apple car play app was not as obviously displayed as on our 2023. And it connects using the left usb on the dash and not the one in the center console

I have a 2016 ex-l without navigation or rear entertainment. I called lkq and went through what I am trying to do with the fellow, at one point he mentioned a part similar to the one you show but eventually landed on 39710-TG7-A01 which google suggests is the right part……not easy to decipher which part number is correct, does anyone know an exact listing of which part number goes with which trim and year combo?

I ordered a part with this description: Radio Audio Radio - Audio Video Equipment PILOT,4DR,EX-L DISPLAY SCREEN, DASH MOUNTED, US MARKET, 8.0 SCREEN I haven’t taken it out of bubble wrap yet, but it sure seems like they only sent the screen. Your video shows a box attached to the screen. The one they sent me doesn’t have a large box and I’m entirely ignorant as to whether that’s important or not, whether it has the software for CarPlay or not. How do I find that out before taking my dash apart?

First thank you for the informative video, my question why you mentioned that it would be better to look for non diploid airbag vehicle ? Will that make any difference?

It's mostly the risk-tolerance of receiving a damaged part. Here's how I see it: if airbags were deployed, that tells me the vehicle likely experienced some sort of encounter towards the front of the car (near the radio). Hope this helps and thanks for the comment.

Ha, asked the same question a few minutes ago.. "Has anyone seen / know of a reference to which Yea/Model is fully compatible with which year/model head units? I just got a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring edition, VERY disappointed with the stock current stock radio. It really sucks. I even rooted it.. and have other apps installed. Any suggestions in 2024? What's the highest compatible model I could swap it out with? Is there a chart , a website that gives compatibility, etc. ?"

Does the back up/rear and side view cams still work properly with the 2017 face installed? Assuming this is why it’s necessary to get the exact same trim model.

@@kristeleonardo The urgency to replace the lame radio expired.. Considering the cost and the time. I mean I realize I actually use my phone 95% and hardly use the built in audio controls. I did root it and sideloaded other software that forces it to jump to Bluetooth connection and gets rid of annoying pop ups.

Have a 2016 Touring and all audio goes to static and ultimately no sound after a few minutes. Dealer has no idea. Tried replacing the amp and the tuner, considering head unit next. Any thoughts?

Lucas, I ordered everything I needed and installed the radio with zero problems whatsoever (thanks to your video). THEN the problems started. The radio gave me a message that it couldn’t be turned on without a “code”. I called the Honda number you provided in the link, they gave me and they gave me the code. Once I entered the “code” it read that it was an incorrect “pin” number. Would it be helpful to give the Honda 800 number the vin # of the vehicle it came off of (because the place I bought it from gave it to me)? Thanks

My understanding is that Honda support will need the VIN of the vehicle the radio was originally sourced from and the serial number of the radio itself to provide you a proper unlock PIN.

First of all, thank you for putting the Link and helping me finding the radio. As you suggested it’s much better to buy a radio from a car that was hit from the back instead of the front because the radio that I received did have a few scratches but I buffed them out using compound. Installation was very easy. However, when it came time to put the code in, I called Honda. The representative refused to give me a code, kept telling me hold the power button finally ended up giving up waited another five minutes called back got another representative and finally got the code right away Now I finally can enjoy CarPlay. Thank you 🙏

They have a pretty good 30 day return policy if anything seems off. The power button they're referring to is located at the top left of the actual radio (not the engine start/stop button). I'm glad everything worked out for you.

hey @Mb1913, the model number is in the description. However, in my experience with speaking to a lkq representative: I'm under the impression that customer support uses the same search engine/method as the common website visitor. Having the radio's model number didn't help me locate it but having the other information (in the video) did. I hope this makes sense.
