Eh man, was in NYC went you wrote this, sorry for later reply... Uploading the video now which includes schematics for the Mesa EQ. They use "coils" which can handle more power than caps. Maybe that's where the magic's at?
They're not cheap, but a Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun will get those stubborn caps out more quickly, and with less chance of lifting a trace or solder pad. It's a huge improvement over wick or a manual solder sucker.
Every single one of the these amps should be preserved until we hit the Star Trek era and replicators become a thing. Every single man who understands how these amps operate and how to repair them should have their brain scanned and secured cause these people are the true treasure of humanity. PS. Great shame this one doesn't have the graphic eq although Mesa (or at least Mike Bendinelli at Mesa) still installs them for 7 to 8 hundred bucks.
I totally agree. Tuck is trying to pass on some of his knowledge to me. I understand a lot of it, but just need to dive into the process several times a week, and see many scenario's. If you have an interest, we can help you with whatever you may want to learn. Regarding the EQ on the iic+. This topic is really controversial, and there is this wide spread belief that one needs the built in 5 band eq, over the 5 band pedal form. I've recently been on the phone with Mesa, and Mike B says that there no difference whatsoever in putting a 5 band pedal in the fx loop, vs a built in 5 band. He see's it as a big waste of time and resource apparently. Though, no matter what , people will have a fixation on the built in 5 band. Literally got in a debate about this about a month ago with a veteran producer , and he he remains skeptical, even after Mike B's explanation. I'll put it this way, the built in eq in my Mark iii, behaves and sounds exactly the same at the 5 band pedal form in my iic+.
Haha. yeah, interesting that you pick up on that. it's been about 6 months doing this channel, and siphoning good information has been one of the biggest tasks. A lot of times people don't realize the value of their info. Ideally they just naturally provide it, but if they don't, someone's got to pull it out of them.
Eventually it will be available. If the channel was big enough we'd do a contest for it. Got a few more projects with it, and I might be able to sell. THANKS
