You're going to be the only person ever to show people how to make a LUT whilst selling your own. Hats off to you for doing this, cheers!

That one issue with a lot of these LUTs in the market, they're overly done and only work for specific conditions and environments but advertised as general luts. That's why I completely ditched luts and manually correct and grade my videos. Its honestly fun and addicting once you get in the habit of doing it.
@dodmedia
@dodmedia 5 лет назад
Yeah that's how I got into making my own to be honest. Too many LUTs were just not working for me. That's why I try and keep mine neutral but toned. That way provided you've white balanced and exposed correctly, they should help you along your way with a grade but then you add tweaks to secondaries yourself to make them perfect.

For me, saving LUT as .cube makes sense as long as your lumetri modifications address just the basic color correction, i.e. going from log to graded content. Contrary to that, .look is useful when you are trying to export more... let's say creative intention (styled view, special color toning, exaggerated views meeting some artistic objective, etc.). So as long as you work with the same camera using the same export settings and you just want to de-gray the video, .cube is a way to go in order to skip repetitve part for any content you process. Not saying this is a rule, but it's definitely something that makes sense to me :-). And btw - great tutorial! Thumbs up!

There is a difference between the Input Lut and the Lut in the Creative section. Input Lut is meant for bringing Log footage to rec709. Input Luts can be often downloaded on the website of the manfucaturer. It affects only contrast and saturation but not the colors itself. Thats what you did at the beginning. The Lut in the creative section is meant for giving the pictures the stylized look by introducing color or changing them. But great video, i really enjoyed it. :)
@dodmedia
@dodmedia 5 лет назад
To be honest whether you bring your luts into input or creative makes zero difference. The lut will affect the image the same way. Perhaps the creative tab offers more flexibility as it gives a preview and intensity option. But other than that if you're not looking to balance LOG or HLG to rec.709 then a lut is a lut no matter where you input it

If you have a loot that it's too strong, you can add that loot from the creative tab and then tone down the intensity of that loot. I find it easier and faster this way. Informative video! xD

Can you edit the LUT that is already created by somebody else? I'm setting Color Phase +2 in my camera's slog3 and the LUT that I got is for the default slog3. Wondering how to change a color phase in a LUT so that it won't be +4... and save it.
@dodmedia
@dodmedia 3 года назад
You can't edit a LUT that has already been created, however you could apply that LUT, adjust your colour phase in Lumetri and add any other changes you want too, and then save that as a new LUT from Lumetri, it will make a new LUT with that new look.
