I was wondered about using alcohol too because I don’t drink but upon further research, people typically consume more naturally occurring alcohol in fermented foods and ripe bananas then in a tincture that you will consume.
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs 2 месяца назад
This is a beautiful point and it will be something that I remember when I have students/clients who have similar questions about the alcohol consumption. Its such a small amount! You are correct. But I also think there is something to be said about intention behind the alcohol consumption. With tinctures, the intention is to help support and heal your body which I feel goes a long way towards your body accepting it. If that makes sense.

I've personally never done it. And honestly, I don't think so. I some people use machines that are designed for oil infusions, but I tend to let time to its work. But its worth exploring further with people who have experience with it.

I started making tinctures last year and just love it. However, its hard to find information on dosages. This year I made some nettle/dandelion tincture and some whole dandelion tinctures. I want to take them daily for maintenance but can't find how much to take on a daily basis. I'm also hoping to make more tinctures as the summer goes on, such as Nasturtium and others. I'm hoping I can find dosages for each and exactly what all they will do for my body. I enjoyed your video. Thanks

I feel your frustration and trust me I get it! The only way I can navigate the strict Health Canada Regulations is through teaching on my online platform. Because they are students I can share that information. It's possible the regulations in the US aren't a strict so maybe finding an American herbalist?? Do you have any good herbal books by chance? They often site dosing in those.

How long can you leave the dandelion roots in there for a vodka tincture? I didn't realize straining the tincture was a thing and mine has been sitting all together for 2 years, the roots are kind of brown but I have that layer of inulin in the bottom.
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs Год назад
Your tincture is perfectly fine. I honestly don't press mine until I need them. I have some tinctures that are over 6 years old. Once I press them, I like to use them up within a year. The inulin on the bottom is natural and expected. :)

To make tinctures can apple cider vinegar be used instead of alcohol?
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs 4 месяца назад
Technically you would then be making an acidic, but totally! There are downsides with vinegar (they do not exact as broad a range and they are really only good for about a year), but they are good alternative for people who are abstaining from alcohol.

What was the ratio about a cup of dandelion to two cups of alcohol? Does alcohol proof really matter? Thank you and many blessings.
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs 10 месяцев назад
86 grams of fresh root and then fill the jar up with alcohol (this is for a 500ml jar). As for the proof, that depends on who you ask, but I use a universal menstruum of 30% alcohol and 10% vegetable grade glycerin and it works for most herbs. Hope that helps!

Hello & thank you for your lucid presentation of your work, regarding the use of amber packer bottles are they available with non-plastic lids? I ask as I wonder if especially due to the alcohol content there would be some leeching into the tincture?
@SpiraeaHerbs
@SpiraeaHerbs Год назад
I have never found any that are not plastic unfortunatley. And metal lids corrode destrying tinctures as well. I guess it's trying to figure out which is the lesser of two evils ~ plastic lids or parchment paper as a barrier for metal lids.
