Oh, baby, I've been waiting to do this since I moved in! Cons of moving in during the winter - the pro is that I had a long time to think about how I want to decorate space. Today I'm so excited to bring you along while I (get by with a little help from my friends) makeover my patio. This space is maybe a quarter of the size of my apartment so I'm stoked to really maximize the area of my apartment with an outdoor living room to entertain, garden, read and nap! Let's DECKorate!

"Peppers: Make a raccoon-repellant spray by boiling two quarts (about two liters) of water with a tablespoon of cayenne pepper, several hot peppers and an onion for 20 minutes. Strain the liquid and spray it around your house, yard, plants and trash cans. You have a great sense of style Kelsey! ❤ Covering the stairs was the best idea ever! The added counter space for drinks and food is wonderful, it feels like it doubles the space! Also that custom corner table is great. You could have just put a square one there that don't quite fit, or a circle one that didn't fully utilize the space, but no!, you went one step further and made a perfect table for that little spot, and with minimal space that's the best idea ever!

Do you guys worry about bedbugs in the fabric and cushions you buy from Value Village? Like do you have a way of cleaning them?

Alex Spence, I usually spray down stuff with rubbing alcohol. Also, hot wash and dry it in the hottest setting. Not just used places. You could potentially get bed bugs from movie theater seats or passing people in a crowded area or store if they have bed bugs on the clothes they’re wearing and don’t know.

Nice. When I lived in an apartment in Pittsburgh, I had a tiny deck, but I still wanted plants despite our harsh winters and didn't want any space taken up for tables to hold the plants. So what I did was get these planter boxes from Home Depot, they hung over the balcony railings, but didn't need to be screwed into the deck itself, so I could take them down without damage to the rental. And I planted perennials and even a trailing ivy, so that even though they "died" during the winter they'd come back each spring. You should really look into that. Also had a couple citronella torches that just attached to the railings the same way as the planters did, basically with a "screw" but it didn't screw into the wood, it had a flat disk on the end and you'd tighten it under the railing and it would clamp onto the railing. Just google removable planters for deck railings & removable torches for deck railings and you should find plenty of options. Happy apartment living! :)

So JUST (I'm talking second for second synchronization) as it started hailing in the video in Canada, it apparently also started hailing here in the midwest US and my roommate was telling me to go bring my dog inside and I'm like "no, you're hearing it hail in the video" and she said "Umm no, look outside, it's hailing!" By the time the video jumped to the scene of the next day, the hail here had stopped as well. I'm wondering now if my youtube choices has some sort of control over the weather. Dope. Also beautiful patio and I LOVE your DIY table-over-the-stairs. Nothing gets me hot like practical furniture for impractical spaces.

What a cute area you have now! That wood table over the stairs is just genius, fits a wonky space and makes it so useful. Love all of the accessories, the plants, the cute DIY table at the end of the lounger. And those lamps that have a usable flashlight, I must live under a rock also, because that is genius! Ah this was super helpful! I'm about to start trying to make my own balcony much more usable (we moved in in February, so this is the first chance I've had), and it's super tiny, but this helped reaffirm that it can still be a totally usable space! I can't wait to get started now, and agh that table over the stairs was such a genius idea!!
