In this episode, I confront Leon to stop his plan to rule the world. Can Maria convince him otherwise? Or will we be forced to kill him instead? Find out on this episode of Let's Play Final Fantasy 2! Thanks for watching!
I really like Leon's character, very highly advanced for an NES game, where the actual character himself wanted power beyond all else, not any brainwashing or any of that... he was purely his own man, ah ruthless ambition, how I miss thee.
Interesting thing about Leon... in DoS, he starts with 10 MP in the first battle like everyone else. But when he comes back, he has... 5 MP?! It's the only stat in the GBA version that goes down, ever, as his rejoin stats more or less didn't change from the NES version (unlike most other game stats which were doubled).
After watching all those videos since you got the spells, now I get why Toad and Mini are death spells. See, you turn them into little things. Then, they run away. So. After your victory dance, your party runs across the screen. TO TRAMPLE THEM. Genious, no? Even if I'm totally making it up.
You want to hear a really bad drug comercial. They ask "Do you find yourself going to bed, and waking up in the morning? Then you need this..." -Chris Rock
Oh, I wasn't referring to real life, ruthless ambition in real life is... well everywhere, I had meant in video games and Final Fantasy altogether, Leon is still considered one of the chief main characters and his motives remain pretty dark to grey throughout the game. In that respect he's a rather realistic character. Nowhere near as complex as Kain's psyche, but it was definitely a fine start.
Greed Cane is a mistranslation of Healing Cane, since "iyashi" can mean either healing or greed. I originally made the same mistake when I worked on translating another game.
Did you know that when Ricard was dying in the GBA DOS version he said his name was Ricard Highwind? Does it ring a bell? Yea.... And also, don't forget about the young kid and his mom who told you about the Hiryuu(or Wyvern) The kid said that he wanted to be a dragoon like his father, and he is the only dragoon left sooo.... Yeah, I think this IS a relation between FFIV no doubt.
The medication side effects you talked about remind me of what a comedian I saw. He talked about a commercial for a drug that gets rid of heartburn. Said commercial also mentioned that said drug could cause heartburn. He then said that'd be like going to a doctor with a bullet wound, only for the doctor to also shoot the patient as a form of treatment.
2:40 I love Coeurls, as lethal as they may be.These were used in D&D too, but this time they didn't originate THERE so there's that. 4:50 And its castle has Valium. 6:12 Yaay classic HCBailly! =) 6:33 Taking off some equipment, heh. 7:38 What is he, Malroth?
I've learned quite a bit about Krull's, since recording this. Their Blast ability is actually Level 10, not 1. The zero just got cut off. Also, it's the only non-elemental status inflicting attack in the game, so Ribbons or any other elemental resisting equipment won't do anything. The only way to block it would be with Shell and/or your own innate magic evasion. Also, on an unusual note, if you have 7-99% evasion or more, they won't be able to hit you with their instant death physical attack, even though the stun status from Blast is supposed to remove all of your evasion. My guess is that some sort of evasion check wasn't properly sequenced to tell the game that you can't dodge while stunned.
I better thumb this up so people can get informed. I guess evasion shines yet again huh? I can also see why you'd think it was Blaster "I": It's the only enemy in the game that has it! Not even Werepanthers, which are the weaker versions, used it; I believe the worst they can do is poison you. I suppose the higher level means... you need more magic defense to resist it? Of course, the evasion I was talking about earlier was the physical one.
On a related note, magic evasion is used to check even against physical status infliction. Shell is actually really useful, when you know how it works.
I LOVED the drug jokes! And while we're on the subject of drugs causing side-affects that are symptoms that they're meant to prevent, chemo-therapy (the treatment for cancer) causes cancer. It's radiation, and radiation cause cancer, so what did you expect? Also, Ambien (a sleep medicine) has insomnia as a side affect! It's like, what's the point of even taking drugs?
"I went to a doctor the other day, and he said, "You know what you should take? You should take this, this and this and that will stop that runny nose of yours." Do you realize how many side effects there are? I swear to god, one of them said side effects may include hallucinations... I'd rather have the runny nose." - Foamy the Squirrel Oh god, that drug reference right away made me think of that quote.
I don't blame anyone, but I also don't want the comments section of my videos to be a place of arguing. No offense. One thing that I have learned from my parents' mistakes is to not allow arguments to escalate. I figured that everyone had a chance to say something, so removing it from there was the best way of preventing it from further escalating.
in the psp and iOS version, for whatever reason leon ultimate weapon is a spear. this might be a Kain referance (was good, became bad, good again and wants to be forgiven)
Hey! What's up with Left-Handed Evil people!? I'm a left-handed evil person and Im'm Very Proud of it!!! XD Just kidding :P I love your videos, HCBailly, please keep up the great work ^_^
well, as far as I can remember right now there were only three. Ricard, Kain, and Cid. I suggest that Kain is Ricard's on; the little kid with hi mom. I do remember Kain saying something about his father and I am almost certain it's Ricard.
Yeah, when the drug is causing the same side effects as what it is supposed to prevent shouldn't it just say WARNING: This drug may have no effect on you.
hmm, i am playing through the GBA dawn of soul remake, and it mentions the richards or in my versions game, ricard his last name is highwind, which is the same as kain's from FFIV so is that just coincidental or something or on purpose?
+platano214 Krulls can inflict instant death with their physical attack. This problem is compounded by their Blaster attack, which inflicts paralysis, preventing you from avoiding physical attacks. Furthermore, Blaster is the only non-elemental attack, that can inflict a status ailment, in the game. The only way to avoid either is with the Shell spell, which I used in a recent playthrough. It's really good, now that I know exactly how it works.
Lol at the drug dealer rant. Remember, since the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and vice-versa, lefties are the only people in their right mind, ha ha ha! Seriously, though, typical FF ruse. First we think the Emperor is the big bad. Then, well, OK it must really be Leon. Now, the Emperor isn't as dead as he should be and is the big bad again. Any other annoying plot devices?
