I’m actually really sad they took out that little girl in the jungle. It jumpscared me every time I played the game, but it was my emotional support jumpscare 😂
This really is the best of both worlds, isn't it? On the one hand it's Riven, the best Myst game, and on the other hand it's a new Cyan game, so I still get to wonder what the heck it all means.
That rift is vaguely evocative of the Mofang WMD in _Obduction,_ which is not a comforting association. And even though we only see a small area with tree stumps, I'm guessing that most of the island was forested before Gehn arrived. (And judging by the fact that the tree in the stained glass display had a green canopy, I'm guessing that brown isn't their natural leaf color.)
You know, one wonder why the village considered it necessary to have permanently manned watch towers and the ability to hide away in the village. Certainly makes it seem like not everything is well here.
Magma is the stuff within the Earth, but when it reaches the surface, it becomes lava and can maintain its molten state provided that the volcano remains active.
The first time I saw the golden domes was through the rift, looking through from different angles to see all five of the domes. It was a bit of a spoiler at the time!
I really love the changes to the animal puzzle, they're all great for the lore (and in my opinion they actually make the puzzle harder, in spite of the criticisms that the remake is easier). I'm so glad that the Rivenese finally get their own numbering system! I also like the addition of the paint since it makes it a lot harder for random passersby to figure out the solution. There's another change I love, but that's a spoiler for now...
It makes sense the Rivenese would use their own numbering system rather than Ghen's, especially since he seems to regard anything the Rivenese do in contempt.

I completely missed the rift when I played too. I was too distracted by the moths/butterflies I think. Also, weirdly I never had the watchtowers activate for me. I might've missed them but I don't ever remember seeing/hearing them raise the alarm. I do dislike how the end of the logcart ride no longer dumps the player into the wood chipper. It really hammered home the idea that you were doing something you shouldn't be doing. I can understand why they removed it, as it would be really uncomfortable in VR, but it's something from the original I miss.
I mean, it also makes sense within the world, since there should be a way to get between the islands that doesn't run the risk of people getting shredded.
I love the Miller brothers as if they were my own brothers, but I never forgave them for that minuscule button in front of the animal totem in the jungle… I was stuck for a day!! :) ;) :P
For me, the corresponding number on the totem is sometimes different -- perhaps randomizes. In addition the "black blob" starry expanse portal is encased in an odd shaped metal container. I have yet to encounter it unenclosed.
“Why would someone put a large dagger in the middle of a forest?” The answer for the giant dagger’s that you see in the game is explained in the book Myst: The Book of Atrus. When Myst was first released, three novels were also written that take place before and after Myst. The Book of Atrus revolves specifically around the relationship between Atrus and Gehn, how Gehn teaches Atrus “the Art” to write descriptive and linking books and how Atrus imprisoned Gehn on Riven.
Again, these are great changes imo? And the new art assets feel like they fit in. Also, I love your Myst series of videos. They've always been a comfort series of mine. Thank you for all your LPs!
They made the minecar less of a safety hazard? I don't know how to feel about this... Also, because we arrived at giant tree stump island early on, that means my favorite Riven island will be the last island we visit in order. Ah the anticipation...
So the first time I saw that anomaly I thought the game was glitching, like it was a graphics issue and not an in-game story driven thing. Which was fascinating. I do wonder if the events of Riven didn't happen would that site become home to a new spinning dome. Also, this really does make me think that the original star fissure leads between ages while those rifts are intra-age, which is really fascinating. Fun stuff!
7:30 Very curious how this will get solved. In my playthrough I completely missed the painting on the stalagtites. Instead there was an image below the water surface. Was that the reflection? 😅
I did see that black starry expanse "window" the whole game and near the end it changed. Still missed the achievement because I didn't think to try to get closer. 😅 But I don't like to sneak peak achievements. Maybe a bit of another game is what made me worry.
@@Krzysiufpp No, I don't think so. It's a bit easier, sure, but not to the point I'd call it dumbed down. And with one exception, I think the new puzzles fit very well.
I’m sorry if this was mentioned in a previous video and I missed it. Did the frog/# and sunner/# get changed? Trying to word it in such a way that it won’t be a spoiler for those who haven’t played the original.
