These character models actually have life like facial expressions; usually they have dead eyes, stare off in dumb directions even when they're supposed to be talking to you, are rigid as heck etc. These facial movements are actually congruent with the emotions and dialog. It really makes a huge difference in how immersed we get and how emotionally invested we become. The Devs really did an amazing job with this game.

I used to do nondestructive testing on pipes and pressure vessels. I worked with a Scottish boilermaker in a confined tunnel for 11 hours one night. He talked a lot, and the more anxious he became, the faster he talked. I had to concentrate so hard to understand him that I couldn't understand English when we got out, and I inherited a Scottish accent for a couple of days. Edit-Your running and screaming superpower served you well in this game.

Yes i work in the oilfield on the supply vessel's that bring all the supplies and fluids and anything thing else they may order from land.. Sometimes we have to crew change by helicopter because we're so far out in the gulf of mexico so the oil rig will pick us up by Billy Pugh onto the rig so yea I been on quite a few oil rigs.. I have been doing this work for 14yrs now.. It's my career. So I was really excited for this game and thank you for streaming it

I worked on Oil Rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for 15 years, as both an engineer, and a electronics tech. I must say the opening hit hard, since being on 24 hour call taking care of 20+ units kept me busy, and often gone for days, while my wife, and kids waited. Being a tech meant I was able to leave when the problem was fixed, but there was always the chance of getting stuck offshore for days. I must say that i was surprised to see this, I had been wondering why a drilling game/simulation had not been made, and the visuals are realistic. I don't know about how they do things in Scotland/North Sea, but in the Gulf, they were always professional, and though there might be some arrogance, people held there tongue. The Tool Pusher was the boss, but running hand off was not the norm. People knew that risking their job for petty complaints was not worth it. The Tool Pusher would also not talk to the driller like that, in my experience safety was indeed paramount, and issues while drilling, as well as any work on the rig was carefully planned, and implemented. I have seen my share of dangerous situations, but they were all handled with procedural decision making, and, proven safety measures. When the safety bonus for everyone was dependent on no lost time accidents you end up getting compliance, and a safety first attitude. Money Talks. While drilling the mud weight holds back the formation pressure, and if an unforeseen gas intrusion happens, it is seen on the surface after it is pumped up the annulus/outside the drill pipe, and logged by the Mud Logger, as I was. If the pressure increase was significant enough to cause a "kick", it would be known by back pressure against the mud pumps, and the well could be shut in, and gas could be vented though a choke, and flared. I never encountered a "blowout" but in that event the BOP's blowout preventers would be closed, and the bore hole abandoned, or an offset hole would be drilled to deal with it. When drilling there is usually a target formation to be producible, and dealing with abnormal pressure from an unproducible zone caused the abandonment of that hole. Wildcat drilling took place but even greater care was used in those cases. Typically there are correlation logs from surrounding holes drilled in the area to have a reasonable idea of what was down there, and where the zone of interest should be found. There is quite a bit more to petrophysics than what is typically understood. Sorry for the lengthy comment, but being an expert at the drilling process I couldn't help myself.

As someone who lost a loved one on Piper Alpha I felt I had to try and play this through to get a sense of things as they were on the rigs. Possibly a bit of emotional PTSD or something stopped me from playing it, so many thanks Fisk for playing it through and letting the Gaelic song play at the end, serious emotional stuff and such a well developed game by the devs. And a salute to the riggers I see in the comments, all the feels for how hard that life is. Well played Fisk, you are a star.

IGN 6/10, they also slated Alien Isolation. They have been going down hill for years. Don't bother with them anymore. Loving this and loving you, so terrifying and hilarious at the same time.

The Scottish accent definitely makes this game 83% better imho

Scottish here... your accent attempts are not terrible. Fun fact: pretty much everyone in this is Scottish (apart from a few irish and english) and the accent varies a lot because IRL Scottish accents vary from town to town, city to city etc.

My dad was an oil rig worker and while this didn't happen, I'm so grateful he didn't fall of the rig, it exploded on him, or the rig sunk or stuff like that when I see this.

My old man had a fellow diesel mechanic friend up and quit his 20+ year career to go weld/repair aluminum boats on the beaches in Florida. This was back in the 80s. He'd call my dad every so often telling him of the good life he'd found and begging him to join him bc he had more work than he could ever get to and the money was endless. Seems my mom just didn't care much for the beach, though, so she decided we should stay poor in the mid-west fixing tractors on dirt farms.

There's a similarity in this, to Godzilla Minus One. As both treat the monster as what seems to be the main feature, but is actually the vehicle for the main character's arc towards redemption. It's an interesting trend and I hope it continues.

Caz actually gets home to his wife. The explosion at the end propelled him hundreds of kilometres through the air, miraculously back into his home bedroom. Thank goodness for soft mattresses! Suze was just passed out from all the Scotch the night before, so he didn't wake her up when he landed.

I worked on Oil Platforms in the North Sea in the 80s, and can relate to some of the detail (and some of the characters!) Great play-through Fisk. There is a mini-series called 'The Rig' that came out last year, and has some similar elements, its on Prime I believe (at least in the UK).

Ah Chinese Room. What a conundrum. They are a studio bursting with talent but seem content to churn out walking simulators. VERY good walking simulators mind you but I WISH they would widen out the gameplay, mechanics and exploration. Make their games actually games lol. If they took on board the gameplay of Alien Isolation with this quality of immersion, detail and voice work then we would have a game of the year contender. The realism of this one adds to the terror. Jesus, some of the scenes are genuinely disturbing and this voice acting is second to none.

Epic game, but the "figure it out yourself while we flashback" endings are getting stale. But I suppose the "happy ending," "self-sacrifice" ending, "was all a dream" end... (you get the idea) are also overly played out. Really only a few ways to make it fresh I can think of so it is what it is. Congrats on the stream success. Always try to watch you and FooFoo when your content comes out and catch the longer vids when I have more time. Keep it up Fiskypoo.
