Join me in my Victoria 3 Let's Play as Russia under Tsar Nicholas I Romanov with the Sphere of Influence expansion. The goal of the campaign will be to increase Russian influence and power, either by conquest or by peacefully adding countries to our power bloc. We'll be particularly focused on the Great Game against Great Britain in Central Asia. Politically, liberalizing will not be a specific goal in this campaign, but some liberal reforms might be necessary to keep the tsar in power later on.
I discuss my reasoning and strategy as I play, thus this walkthrough could serve as a tutorial or guide.

Yeah it's a garbage economic system, but we don't really have the ability to change to anything else yet.

I don't know if there are things that you're doing off camera, but a few things I noticed that might help: 1) when you built the coal plants you didn't change to atmoshperic engine on those on camera. 2) there were more than once places with gold depleted where you can build gold mines which you should always prioritize since its basicly free money. 3) you could've really built much more construction sectors, I know you're focused on building up your treasury for wars, but while it might seem in the short term that you are not gaining as much money on the long term it will drive your economy much higher and not fall behind as time goes on. 4) I know you hate debt spending, but there is no shame in some periods of debt to drive that economy up :D Sorry if this seems like back seat gaming, just sharing some thoughts. long time follower of your channel here :)

Thanks, I did get the gold mines constructing before recording today's episode, and in that video I change the coal plants' production method. I also further address the reason I don't do debt spending in these series. It's not because there's any "shame" in doing it lol, it's because doing so results in the economy growing too quickly, far faster than the AI, and thus making the game too easy.

Honestly you could easily afford a lot more than ~50 construction efficiency in the 1840s playing as a giant like Russia.

@@mido830 I think he’s rusty since he said on the first episode that he hasn’t touched the game in a long time and is experiencing for the first time a lot of features that have been around since several updates.

Sure we could afford it. I address this next episode, but I intentionally build up really slow, avoiding debt spending, to add an artificial challenge to the game, since frankly it's far too easy otherwise and I won't play past the 1860.
