I feel like I could never do a ranked list like this because I can find too many reasons to love a pokemon. the pokemon looks generic? well, I actually think that compliments the core concept of pokemon... the creator wanted to evoke the feeling he got from collecting bugs as a kid, and the simpler pokemon feel like stuff that a child would find on the ground and take home in their pockets, or animals that they'd want to be friends with in their neighborhood. a pokemon looks stupid or weird? excellent. honestly, top tier. I love a good weirdo pokemon, I can't even logic this one, it's just a gut reaction. some specific ones that I actually really like: tropius. it's a dinosaur, and a banana tree, and apparently it can fly somehow?? it's absolutely ridiculous I love it. lombre and breloom. they're both just quirky weird little dudes, and like... shroomish and lotad are both soooooo cute, it really is something special when I don't regret them evolving. I love lombre's kappa inspiration, and I adore that breloom is basically just a veliceraptor that has cute mushroom aesthetic. I think the regis are excellent because they remind me of the robots from castle in the sky... they're just endearing to me. they've done nothing, but they give me cute robot vibes, like, if you've ever empathized with a roomba, you understand why I find them appealing. masquerain is pretty. that's all. baltoy and claydol are so awesome to me, idk, they just seem like living artifacts, and I absolutely love pokemon that add an element of living ancient history to the pokemon world. baltoy, claydol, lunatone, solrock, the regis, nosepass, lileep, cradily... gen 3 gave us so many weird little dudes. and I'm a huge sucker for pokemon that come off as just like... little critters? keckleon, anorith, volbeat and illumise, the whole flygon line... and I absolutely adore nincada. it's just really adorable to me, moreso even than its evolve forms. although, I really do like how the hole in shedinja's back where the nincada broke out of the shell has these tattered bits that look like stylized wings, and then it also has the kinda moon shaped halo thing... it's just got a lot of cool stuff going on. gen 3 also gave me my favorite pokemon, sableye. and I totally agree about ghost pokemon. the duskull and shuppet lines are so good.
@@comixaddict2707 is Buneary 50/50 too? Either way I remember people saying that encountering a wild Lopunny would be somewhere around 70% male. Idk. I'll edit the comment
@Mr. Dog what is known as a “middle-stage evolution” for a pokemon can be compared to the awkward stage of your life when going through your teenage years and experiencing puberty, the period where your body begins to mature as you go on your way to becoming an adult
@@themememixers8965 Sounds like you might be suffering from IBS. I recommend cutting fatty and acidic foods out of your diet, and be sure to ask your doctor about medications to prevent flare-ups.
@Bongomaster It’s technically not a whale; it’s the personification of the oceans. Design wise, it’s basically just a sea monster, something like a kaiju. Just like Groudon is not any particular animal; it’s the embodiment of the Earth.
Ziz was a bird, Behemoth was a warthog or a bovine thing depending on the artist, and Leviathan was a fish. But as you probably pieced together while the weather trio stole those creatures lore they're actually designed after entirely unrelated legends. Rayquaza is a legendary flying snake, Kyogre is a whale (it has whale names like orca as part of its name in other languages, and leviathan was adapted to mean whale on modern day), and Groudon is who knows what. It's plates where originally craggy and rock, so I'm assuming they just gave some tectonic plates arms and legs.
@@connaeris8230 this one bothered me cause he liked that one whale pokemon on the basis it was big. Then you have kygore, a cooler more detailed design, even bigger then that whale by a lot... gets a lower rank.
Gardevoir was one of my favorites as a kid. I remember thinking she looked like an innocent princess, and I just loved her Then, Rule 34 ruined my childhood.....
As a Latino, I have to say I love Ludicolo’s design. It’s goofy design coupled with its dancing idle animation that it has in Pokémon Colosseum/XD Gale of Darkness, it just has so much personality
@@redxeno it’s a response to ProZD’s comment about the design being problematic. Some people think it has a racist design that might offend Latin Americans. As a Latin American myself, I don’t have a problem with the design
People these days are just so overly sensitive. Seems any time we get a Pokémon inspired by a foreign culture, SOMEONE will start crying about “racism” or whatever. Nothing “problematic” about Ludicolo at all; look at him, he’s loving life!
there's nothing problematic about Ludicolo, are we banned from using a sombrero-shaped hat as a design element now? Ridiculous. Call it "positive Latino representation in the form of a cool, fun-loving duck Pokemon" if you must.
"Oh its a rock fossil, booooring" Maaaan its based on a coelecanth,a fish we thought was extinct for millions of years only until recently we found them somehow alive and thriving and its similar in pokemon.Thats pretty nuts
From what I've gathered, it seems like most Mexicans aren't as bothered by what other cultures might consider "appropriation", since they see it as a celebration of their identity.
Feel like it's mostly Americans that take it on themselves to be butthurt about "appropriation". Most people from the respective countries are probably just happy to be noticed.
It has to be memorable though, too. The first bird he said that about I find that a very forgettable Pokémon. The second bird he said that about is just a smidge more interesting, IMO.
@@MrZAP17 blaziken is tolerable while playing the original gen 3 because of the shit graphics, but god is blaziken ugly as fuck. i love it with all my heart and it’s my favorite pokémon to play but it’s horrid looking.
I agree with a lot of this list, but personally Rayquaza and Absol would be S tier for me. Rayquaza is one of my favorite legendary Pokémon and I've always been a huge fan of Absol's design and the lore about how everyone think it's the harbinger of doom when in reality it's just trying to warn people. It's a thankless task, really.
I think Exploud is easily A tier, I like the design. It looks like a boombox pipe organ creature. Which is exactly what I would expect from something called Exploud. The fact that its mouth kinda looks like an open speaker. It's very consistent to the idea of what the Pokemon is trying to represent, imo.
lol it is pretty funny, but I mean, I think the difference is that he (and also kinda I) like the simple designs that are still unique and fun. We don't really have anything that's like a Snorunt. It's simple, but cool and unique. We have something like Tailow. It's called a bird lol
@@Leonidas1210vc I think something like Wingull still has personality to it since it's just a simple bird, but also a specialized bird, where you get a sense of its environment and stuff. It's a good bird and got a good rating as a result.
I dont think ill ever be more disappointed than when you said relicanth was a D tier. HES BASED ON A REAL FISH WE THOUGHT WENT EXTINCT. As it turns out they still live in extreme depths ... Most of the time. They were thought to have gone extinct over 66 million years ago then we found one in 1938. It has very thick and durable scales, leading to it being a rock pokemon.
I just realized Absols head is like a yin yang symbol. That makes him a lot cooler. In fact he is one of my top favorites now. i really like his whole luck and good vs evil thing. He shows up just before a disaster, so some people see it as good because it warns people, and some think its bad, like it brought them the disaster. He has a dark realism to him.
I’d rank Rayquaza an S+ it’s just so menacing, a classical “chinese” sky dragon that has the most epic entry ever and just is at the end for me, a God Tier Pokemon. Green yellow black and red is great, contradicts the Blue and Red of Groudon and Kyogre well. Might be my favorite, also in it’s Mega where he defined the words “flying jumbo-jet snake dragon”
He's not Chinese, he's designed after the Mesoamerican snake Quetzalcoatl with lore taken from the legendary (Persian IIRC?) bird Ziz. He's not any sort of actual dragon funny enough.
@@Airf0il All the legendaries from gen III other than Jirachi and Deoxys are based on Jewish mythology/folklore: Kyogre - Leviathan Groudon - Behemoth Rayquaza - Ziz Regis - golems
I honestly didn't really care for this generation all that much - originally Skarmory was my favorite Gen 3 Pokemon, until I found out later that it was actually in Gen 2 before.
As someone who also does a lot of ratings, 10s are absolutely a little more common than 9.5s. It's easier to say something is perfect than to say it's *almost* perfect but not quite there.
@@silv2309 no, the best is the johto set. Everyone likes them all, or at least doesnt dislike any of them. I'm talking about most people, some hate them
Gen III was my first ever pokemon game . This video brings back memories of me playing my first ever pokemon game . Many mistakes were made along the way .
I love all your videos! I struggle with mental health issues and found your ramen reviews to be so fucking relaxing! These pokemon and animal crossing rating videos are my favourite because even when I disagree with some individual ratings i playfully yell at the screen which is a lot of fun. Groudon is fuckin' bomb and ghost pokemon designs are the best!
Okay, mispronouncing Illumise, I'll excuse. No one could ever figure out how to pronounce that thing's name for the longest time. But... Slay-king? *SLAY-king?!?*
I never realized one of the reasons i really liked this gen its because most of them feel like creatures, pretty organic idk . Like clearly animal based wich is easy because its early on but with enough twists and nuisance on it. Big thing is also how 1,2 and 3 compliment each other. With 4 theres more edges in the design and i feel they went for crazier stuff and more thing like wich makes for really cool individual Pokémon but less cohesive gens.
knowing more about the inspirations and references and such that was incorporated in each pokemon, you can really appreciate more of them :) some of them will look weird if you don't know what it is based on but when you get to know them, you'll just be "oh wow, now i get it" and they instantly will go up above your ranking xD
