Brian Bolland and Grant Morrison started their ANIMALISTIC run in 1988 with issue #1. Let's take a look at the first 50 issues from their run and rank them! We're using an A-F scale and then picking one comic from the A-tier and crowning it the best with a special S-tier designation. Every one of these is a masterpiece, but only one can be champion!

I remember Bwana Beast way back in Showcase 66,67 in the 60's. Some kind of Tarzan copy.

I had never heard of him until I read this series. Grant Morrison's take on the character was fascinating and chilling. Yes, I've revisited B'wana's early appearances and he was an interesting character for the time. GREAT comment, thank you!!!

Animal Man is one of my favorite runs. Brian Bolland is an amazing artist - love when he is showing off. This video showed up in my feed today. Subscribed , like what you did here.

Glad you enjoyed! This Animal Man run is one of the most memorable I've read. These stories stick out as the most advanced and philosophical I'm capable of enjoying. There were times I was a little lost, but it was SO worth getting through those spots. It's the only series where I felt a little smarter after reading it. Thanks for the GREAT comment!!!

Brian Bolland, the legend. Who can go from unforgettable to pedestrian and back like Bolland. When it works, it really works well. He seems like the kind of artist who always makes the deadline even if quality suffers. Otherwise I can't explain it. good stuff

I couldn't have said it better. I agree completely. I would add that he has one of the most recongnizable styles in all of comics. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but when I see a Bolland piece, I know it. And I usually really like it. Thanks for the comment!!!

My favourite of these covers was #5 with the hand pencilling Animal Man. This is the first time ive seen those Penalizer covers. Those ones are my next favourites.

How about Mike Zeck covers, either just on Deathstroke, or, across all the iconic books he has worked on, like Secret Wars, Punisher, Kravens Last Hunt, Captain America Annual #8, and so many others.

Yes!!! Good eye! I almost said that, but I hate to mention a comic and not show it and I had 50 comics to get through, but you're so right! Both were done by Bolland and are two of my favorites. GREAT comment, thank you!!!

Yes! The colors that they used during his WW run are very distinct. I could pick out a cover from that run just by seeing the color palette. Very interesting choices. Some of the most striking covers I've ever seen! Thanks for the comment!!!
