Check to see if it has a cfw on it. If so it could be being downclocked. You can press the select button on the home screen and if it has a cfw on it it'll bring up a menu where you can change the clock speed.

I've modded and repaired so many of these consoles. That back frame should not be attached to the screen like that and definatley not come away from the base of the PSP. It's normally screwed into the top of the PSP motherboard. Someone has definately messed up this console. I can give you some details on how it should be correctly installed and repaired if you like bro :)

Hey Ryan, may I bother you with a question, please? 😊 I just replaced the shell on my psp 3003, ordered it from eBay, but it's not a great quality and the parts don't fit very well. Since it was my absolutely first try, I am unsure whether the replacement shell was indeed of bad quality or my non-expertise led to this. I'm glad it works tho, but it looks awful. 😅 Do you have any tips whether I should just practice or where to look for better replacement shell? Thanks.

I have a psp 2000 and the screen got vertical lines and where the lines are it doubles or triples the writing, like it is ghosting. Put in a new screen, it was all good, after a while the lines came into the new screen also, any ideas?

I think the slowdow could be due to it being underclocked. If there is already a custom firmware installed then someone could have set the cpu to under 222mhz for the menu. It can raise the battery life by a lot but perhaps it was set so low that now doing anything crashes the PSP. Try hitting the select button in the menu and if there is a custom firmware you can make a new menu appear that will a bunch of option. The first one should be XMB clock and second should be game clock. I just tested it on mine and setting the XMB to 20mhz gives me the same slow menu. Set it back to default if thats what you find.

It's running slow because this PSP is on custom firmware and it looks like the previous owner set the clock speed to the lowest for the home screen. You can press the select button on the home screen and a little menu will pop up where you can adjust the clock speed back to default or even a bit higher.

I have such good memories modding my psp both hardware and software. I installed leds on the L and R buttons and took the umd drive out, cut the silver ring off from the little door and replaced it with a clear plastic with more leds so that the ring on the back would light up since the leds were connected to the speakers and were sound responsive 😁 I’d do anything to go back to those days

When I replaced the charging port on my PSP, (which was never opened before) that metal bracket was held to the motherboard by screws and you had to remove the screen in order to get acces to them. Someone had maessed up your PSP and probably sold it because of it.

Like numerous ppl have suggested check for cfw by pressing select to open the vsh menu to check underclock settings. Bump the clock speed up to see if that helps. If it is ofw then it is possible to update by downloading an update to a memory stick (or just get a game with a newer fw and install from umd). Hopefully this fixes it or else it could be some odd hardware problem.

This is a PSP 1000 model, the 2000 and 3000 are different to repair in that you have to fit the bottom button bar before the new screen and the parts are a lot more fragile! Great video, though. I hope in the year following you managed to repair a lot more consoles! And it's great to see another U.K. RU-vidr.

Honestly the old psp was amazing, and I love the nestalgia part of it but Vita is the way to go. Thanks to modding all of the old PSP games can be played on the Vita and since the Vita has a built in PSP, all the games play as you would expect, plus then you get the Vita side of things. I use to repair Vita's refurb them and sell them. They are a decently easy repair job but because they were never really all that successful after market parts are non existent right now, I usually had to Frankenstein to Vita's two get it to work. That be a fun repair video for you. Great video's by the way.

I know this is an old video. I bought a used psp 2000 model from a pawn shop. They only tested that it worked, but the screen had water damage that left a pretty pattern in the screen, but a lot of the interior was dirty. By the looks of it, mine was easer to deal with than the one in this video. Sadly, the new screen I put in, started having visual glitches, and I had to (HAHA) put the old one back in. It still works just fine. And with the component out I'm able to play games on a tv instead, so It ended up not mattering. But my psp by far is one of the easiest things I've ever had apart and put back together.

It's maybe because the previous owner custom firmwared the system and set the clock speed to 166/33 below. What you will do is Press select or Hold the power switch until it shuts down and switch the PSP back while you hold R and a popup should appear. Now, go to CPU Speed and put those numbers to default or 333/166 to make it faster. Edit: Setting it to 333/166 drains the battery faster but the pros of doing that it the PSP will run smoother

Its rather better to look for one that is in a better condition, most likely a recent model like the street. Where im from, to order a new shell and screen works out expensive. The parts are worth more than the actual device. The worst is the yellowing of the screen on the 3000 model, coupled with rounded off screws.
