This is not merely a great restoration video, it's downright inspiring.

This was also my first computer. We got one in mid 1978. Eventually we added a LNW System Expansion to it instead of using the Tandy expansion interface. The LNW came with the bare board, a parts list and a set of build instructions. I have fond memories of souring the local HAMfest looking for all the parts needed with my father and learning to solder helping him assemble it. I wrote my first programs and connected to my first BBS, using a Novation Cat 300 baud acoustic coupler modem, on that computer. Eventually I was lured away by the colors and 3 sound voices of the Commodore 64.

Those are the memories, right? First machine, first custom board, first solder job - all the same for me with my original TRS-80, too.

I wrote a lot of my first programs on the TRS-80 Model I. It was fun to learn BASIC and more challenging to write programs in Z80 assembly language. Now, if I can only remember where put the War Dialer program I wrote ...

I'm stuck trying to build a keyboard decoder. And after that is a video interface. Ugh. We were easy up to that point - now it's all complicated stuff.

Why do you have such little views and subs? I feel like this is this video is at the level of having at least a couple thousand.
@JoesComputerMuseum
@JoesComputerMuseum 5 лет назад
Only just made it to 1k subs to be able to become a "RU-vid partner". Until you make that level, YT I guess doesn't promote your channel much in suggested vids, etc.

Joe's Computer Museum well congrats on the 1K 👍. Hopefully someday you stand with the likes of LGR, 8-Bit Guy and etc. Although you seem to have an extensive knowledge on computer circuits (Computer engineer?) I feel like this adds a unique and fresh dimension to your videos that help you "shine a different color" so to speak.

I'm restoring my Model 1. It's a pretty low serial number: 12890 And, it has the expansion port cover. :-) Having some sync issues at the moment and the keyboard ribbon cable was pretty much gone.

Can you please tell me what that MEKO 6 pin capacitor like yellow can is, near R20 / R21 trim pots?
@JoesComputerMuseum
@JoesComputerMuseum 3 года назад
That is part K1. On sheet 2 of the TRS-80 Model 1 Schematic, it is labeled as a relay.
