The answer to why Americans are so interested in genealogy should be obvious. A vast majority of us know for sure that our ancestors didn’t come from here, so we want to know where. As an 80% genetically verified Scots/Irish American, that only applied to my Dad’s side. My Mom’s parents were both born in Ireland! Anyway, we are an immigrant nation, and a lot of us have no idea where our ancestors come from.

As an American, I have no stinking idea why the cubicle gaps are so big.

Diane is correct. The Saint Patrick's day parade in Dublin is a parade with 90% American high school and college bands. My High school band played and marched in the St. Patrick's day parade in 1975. We spent a week in Ireland. As a 16 yr old, it was amazing. One of the best memories of my life. My Irish mom was so proud.

Fun fact: my American family has a three volume set of genealogy books about them going back to the 1750s, just lists of people and stories, short biographies, etc. Like, giant hardcovers, the size of Encyclopedias. Kind of neat.

LIved in Philadelphia for a while and saw their St. Patrick's Day parade a couple of times. Amazing. Blacks, Whites, Asians, Hispanics all marching with big smiles on their faces. Everyone's Irish for a day!

Is "Get drunk and start fighting" the Irish equivalent to "Keep calm and carry on" ?

There’s a wild story on Reddit where a young Irish guy studying in the United States was invited by a fellow student to have dinner with her family. The girl had said that her family was Irish etc. upon arriving at the home the young guy saw a giant Irish flag in the front yard along with various leprechaun statues. The girl’s father began asking where the young man’s “kin hailed from” in Ireland, and then the father proceeded to mispronounce Irish place names and also corrected the young man when he attempted to correctly pronounce the name/word. The father then proceeded to ask why the young man was speaking “that way” and to “stop being offensive” and making fun of “His (the father’s) culture”. The young man tried to explain that this WAS the way that he spoke normally and he wasn’t putting on any accent. The father continued to complain and things became tense. In the end, to keep the peace and because he was hungry and really wanted a nice home cooked meal, the young man decided to spend the entire evening putting on a pretend American accent. 😳 This seemed to settle the father down 🤣 Oh and I forgot to mention - None of these people had Ever been to Ireland 😳not once... ever. But apparently the father was Irish and he was also an expert - after all, he had a flag and leprechauns ... oh, and he knew where his “kin hailed from”🤣🤣 I mean, obviously 🤣 For reference, I think the story is in the “entitled people” subreddit - if your interested. It’s quite a hoot.

One of her videos that cracked me up was Diane losing her mind in a Walmart. So many foreigners can't seem to handle choice...Walmart, Target, even regular grocery stores. I've actually seen them complain about there being "too many choices."

There are 31 million Irish Americans out there. Six times larger than the entire population of Ireland. My theory is that during the potato famine, all of the extroverts left for the United States leaving only the shy ones back home. It's already been 150 years and poor Ireland's population still hasn't reached pre-famine levels.

Yup… the Irish accent is awesome. ❤ For the record, most of us just check for feet at the loo, as opposed to peeking in a gap. That’s intrusive and creepy here too!

The big gap in toilet stalls was an anti-labor surveillance measure from taken by early American factories/workplaces. They didn't want to encourage workers to be comfortable staying in bathrooms any longer than it had to take, and more importantly they could tell if you were still in there and what youre doing.

A very Irish looking woman I worked with in new York had two stories I liked. People would complain she didn't wear green on st. Patrick's day. "You need to wear green. I have this face" When she was young people would say "you have the map of Ireland on your face". She thought it meant that if you connected her freckles you would get the map of Ireland.

Lawrence, you're the only RU-vid sensation I can stand telling your audience to subscribe--because it's so funny how you do it. I love those "bossy" commands, and the "Do that now!" snarl always makes me laugh. 😆

Fascinating. Although I was in an Irish pub here in the USA and there was this Irish bloke sitting with some others. Apparently, they brought him over to the place. He said "This place is about as Irish as a pint of Guiness served with a hamburger and French fries."

Per Americans wearing green on St. Patricks day, yrs ago a friend of mine who has 100% Anglo Saxon ancestry, decided to tease his co-worker who was Irish. When St. Patricks day rolled around he gleefully came into work that day wearing orange LOL. I'm talking orange pants, shirt and socks. His Irish co-worker glared at him and said "you lousy Prod" LOL (i.e. Protestant)

The Irish immigrants in Boston particularly stuck to their own. Half of my grandmother's grandparent's were recent immigrants from Ireland and the other half had been in North America for a couple of generations. We had her DNA tested and she was 97% Irish, and 3% Scottish. Before the updates it had said she was 100% Irish. Conan O'Brien had talked about his results being 100% Irish and had a very funny discussion about what his Doctor said about that.

You can’t truly the “see” the person in the stall. You can just tell someone is there. Better than pushing on a door that doesn’t latch properly and it opens. That’s happened.

I’m an American who moved to the UK, and it’s true that Brits are always curious as to why Americans identify as some other nationality. It’s also true that the English do exactly the same thing a fair amount. During Six Nations, tons of English people start rooting for Ireland, Wales and Scotland, even though they’re English, born and raised, and their Irish/Welsh/Scottish ancestry is more family lore than anything.

I find it charming when Europeans refer to our defense perimeters and flight distances as "personal space"😉

RMS TITANIC played a large part in my family history, and yes, we are a nation of immigrants, and as such we all want to know our family history. In April 1912 my paternal grand parents and their infant daughter Clarice left Bolton, England and journeyed to Southampton with the intent to emigrate to America. They had their fully paid passages, but when they went to board Titanic, White Star Line denied boarding because their infant child was too sick to make the voyage. Titanic then sailed off into infamy, leaving my grand parents on the dock in Southampton. Four months later they made the voyage on the SS Cymric. Today I'm 80% British, but had my grand parents not been denied boarding, there is no telling what my pedigree would be today.

As an American the gap in the bathroom stall has annoyed me for as long as I can remember. I also don't understand why they are made like that.

Why is it so hard to understand Irish heritage pride when so many were forced by economics or hunger to leave a land they loved?? In many cases, that pride and accompaning cultural expression got people through the lonely times, the tough times and the times that told them they were far from home.

I used to watch Diane all the time, but like a lot of RU-vid content creators from overseas she started just making fun of Americans (Like those Two Brits Joel and Lia, RIP)and relaying on old stereotypes. Then she got into reaction videos of stuff she was watching, and I was out.

1920-50, 80% / 50% / 10% of boys born in British maternity wards were circumcised by their 3rd birthdays, according as to whether their parents were upper / middle / working class. These circumcisions had nothing to do with religious duties. There were London maternity wards that circumcised all boys born in them. In 1949, Douglas Gairdner, a UK Professor of Paediatrics, wrote an article saying that 10-15 British boys died each year because they were circumcised in infancy. In 1950, the NHS announced that it would not pay for routine circumcision that was not intended to treat a medical problem. Gairdner was the first investigator to report that a foreskin unretractable in infancy was an entirely normal condition, requiring no treatment. Turning to the USA 1880-1980, the the rate of routine infant circumcision, nearly always performed before a boy and his mother were discharged from the maternity ward, became a standard part of American maternity ward protocol. Anesthesia was never used. The routine circumcision rate rose from 0% to 85%+. Health insurance covered the cost. American circumcision was a very hush-hush affair. Most boys did not know their own circ status. Today, the rate of routine infant circumcision is 60-65%. Medicaid and private insurance often does not cover the cost. A fair fraction of RICs are done under anesthesia. The rate varies widely by state. from 91% in West Virginia, to 10% in Nevada. The anti-circumcision movement began in the 1980s, the decade when the RIC rate attained its maximum. In Ireland, circumcision is confined to the small Muslim immigrant minority, and a tiny Jewish minority.

I’m American and one time I was in a bar bathroom and for some reason, the gap in the door was GIANT. Like, you could fully see the person inside. 😂 The bathroom was packed too but every girl was drunk inside the bathroom and didn’t care or they just pretended like they didn’t notice. But for me, it was a nightmare. 😂

When wondering about the popularity of St Patrick’s Day, people tend to miss the obvious fact that it is the luck of the Irish to have a day that falls almost exactly at the start of spring, so what better time to celebrate. Plenty of pretty Asian and Hispanic girls around here can seen sporting Kiss Me I’m Irish stickers.

6:46 the marching band with the Middletown NJ banner is the high school my 2 kids went to. So my children's school is now a featured youtube sensation in an Irish youtube sensations video included in the one and only Lawrence Brown the premiere youtube sensation. I couldn't be more proud.

Philadelphia Irish year. My people all came over when the British stole our food in the 1840s. I spent a year stationed in Chicago once, and then a few years back my company sent me to Chicago for a week for training around St Patrick's Day. I have to say, the Irish pride in Chicago is massive. But if you know a little bit about your roots, it's a little funny too. These people that I was training with and I went to one of the Irish pubs. It was named "Pog Mahone." None of them knew why I was laughing the minute I saw the name. I waited till they finished paying their checks to tell them.

For the record, we don't like the toilet cubicle-gap, either. Those are due to cheap construction. The door should swing open if not latched, so no need to check; if door is closed, it's occupied.

I HATE the "where you're from" dynamic in America. I was born in Germany whilst my father was in the Army, then married a soldier. I'm currently at 43 living in my 5th year in Houston, the longest I've ever lived ANYWHERE in my life. People become positively livid when I tell them I'm from Earf. I didn't grow up anywhere in particular, I don't have a hometown, I met my cousins and extended family only a few times, I don't have lifelong friends, I don't have a home team and I find it extremely difficult to get along with people who do have all those things. It has always been "where are you from?" "Nowhere" "Well, where were you born?" "Germany. No, I'm not German." "Aaaah you have to be from SOMEWHERE!!!" "But I'm not and I don't" 🤷🏼‍♀️

We act bad because we died for wearing the green, and fought against the orange. Many in Ireland tried to make peace, but many in the US had to flee or our families would have died.

Im Irish in ancestory. My family left Ireland about 200 years or more ago. Still have the wooden family rocking chair from Ireland. Its no longer a rocker and the legs are only about 3" long now.

I also agree about the bathroom stall gap. I hate it. It's so stressful. Some people spend a longer than is necessary amount of time staring through the door, when they could just tilt their heads a bit a look for feet. There right there! It's so intrusive. I all but dance a jig when I see a private bathroom or the stalls that have the floor to ceiling doors. The explanation I have gotten for the reason behind the gap is that if someone has a medical emergency it's easier to get to them, also it's easy to crawl under the door should you get locked in a stall. It seems to happen with children a lot. But I still am not a fan. The disabled stalls, which I have to use are bigger and the toilet is not in direct sight of the door most of the time. Those are marginally better.

I love how being a YT content creator made enough money for Diane that she could afford to visit the USA to make more videos.
