17:46 As someone from a poorer country, and lived in much poorer ones, I'm astounded at Americans taking their country for granted. The majority of the world's citizens, regardless of skin color, woudl switch places with you. I espectially dislike the combination of ignorance with confidence: "This sucks", "Where's better?", "Dunno, but this sucks". They compare society to perfection, so any tiny flaw gets them down, even if they can't suggest a solution, and no one else in the world has a solution. Instead of perfection, much better to compare society to nature, so any social safey blanket is a reason to be grateful. Wasn't eaten by a tiger today... win!

@jabrilel-amin127 6 месяцев назад
The comparison isn’t to perfection. It is to other people in the country. Folks see that other people are living better and understand that there is a systemic preference towards that. So people complain about that
@ian-flanagan
@ian-flanagan 6 месяцев назад
@@jabrilel-amin127 I think we agree. Your example is "perfect equality", which is the of the opposite of nature. I despise racial inequality because it's morally wrong, but also because it's bad for the economy (bad for everyone), but other inequalities in society seem to be helpful. Whenever people tried to eliminate financial inequality, it ended terribly for everyone. It seems adversity is strengthens us... necessity is the mother of invention, and all that. So I love to debate solutions to racial inequality, but with some people, it very quickly turn into "financial equality", which is not the answer.

Q: should we have a black national anthem? A: Is black a nation? To my knowledge, black is a race and races don't have *national* anthems. Nations have national anthems. Q: should black ppl get a month? A: Morgan freeman ended this debate years ago. "Don't relegate my people's history to a single month. Black history is American history. Every month is black history" Q: can anyone say the n-word? A: Does it make sense in a melting pot society for one group of people to have exclusive privilege to a certain word while if used by any other group, they are immediately deemed as racist and face irreparable damage to their reputation and livelihood? Of course people shouldn't use racially derogatory words with the intent to harm, but we are at a place now where we can't even say the word for purposes of describing, educating, even rebuking the word. Everyone's walking on eggshells while silently being frustrated at the severity of the consequences, and this negatively affects the black community, I promise you. Q: can black ppl be racist? A: Yes. Q: should white people feel guilty? A: should a white person with German bloodline whose grandparents immigrated to NYC in 1901 be guilty of chattel slavery that ended in 1865? Lumping all white people into the guilt box IS the definition of racism.
@Mr.Universe
@Mr.Universe 6 месяцев назад
I dont think anyone lumps all white into a guilt box...nobody actually believes white people should feel guilty..this has never been the prerogative of Black people in general.
@NitroDS
@NitroDS 6 месяцев назад
race is an outdated term. ethnicity is a more dignified term and moraly elevated.
@andrewofaiur
@andrewofaiur 6 месяцев назад
@@NitroDS Race and ethnicity are not interchangable, nor is one word morally superior than another, they're both neutral word. Race is biological and ethnicity is cultural. If you asked someone what their race is and they said white, you wouldn't know anything about their country of origin or heritage. If you asked someone for their ethnicity and they said Russian, you wouldn't know what they looked like because someone living in moscow is going to look drastically different than someone living in Siberia. You need both race and ethnicity to gain a full profile of a person.

@EchoJ
@EchoJ 6 месяцев назад
Absolutely …once we have a *black nation* I wouldn’t waste time and our creativity on an anthem for a country that doesn’t respect us. That’s thirsty, pick-me behavior if I’ve ever heard of it.

No idc about the national anthem but like bro said I think it would defeat the purpose of a national anthem to have multiple, i'd rather we change the national anthem than make a new one for a specific group of people

No. If people do not like the national anthem of this country they can go to another country.

@@smongolo the US still uses legal slavery to oppress us. Reagan's administration & the CIA during the Nicaraguan civil war funded the Contras to fight against the Russian backed Sandinistas who overthrew a dictatorship in Nicaragua & then turned a blind eye to the Contras cocaine trade in order to further fund themselves against the Sandinistas which then those drugs made their way into our communities & filled our streets with drugs during the 80's, they then passed laws which criminalized crack & cocaine differently in which the former had harsher sentences attached to it despite being the exact same substance in different forms, white communities were often fond of powdered cocaine while our communities were more likely to use crack rock. They then give our schools little to no funding, mass incarcerate us to meet their quota on private prisons and give us extremely long prison punishments as opposed to rehabilitation, exploit us for cheap labor, AND do nothing to reintegrate us into society once our sentence is up. The US is built on a system of racism, exploitation and land theft. I got hope though of course, but that's just how it played out.

should black ppl get a month?
@EchoJ
@EchoJ 6 месяцев назад
We should get all the months that whites have since our contributions to America are as important - actually, more so - than theirs. The erasure of black accomplishments and history is why BHM exists. None of the people you spoke to understand or know that, which is a huge reason BHM is still, unfortunately, necessary. It’s clear that the erasure of black history from US history is still ongoing. Otherwise, these folks would have more salient points to this question and the others.

These are all conundrums, until you realize the big idea that underlies all of these dynamics. While there are brilliant people of every group, and most people of all groups are law-abiding, the average intelligence and criminality of groups do vary. This fact explains all of the dynamics and stammering seen in the video. Through this lens, our society makes perfect sense. Whites and Asians feel some amount of guilt because of the condition of blacks, hence their reactions here.
