Let's Talk About Box Framed Stairs || Dr Decks 

I like this idea, especially for elderly people who need low rise steps with wide treads. I think I might reconsider the steps I was about to build for my mother-in-law's place.

The old construction laws say that when it rains your suppose to go to the bar! Lol. Love your videos man and keep up the great work! Some of the best I've seen.

Love these stairs, perfect for what i want to do. 6 1/2” risers with a long tread feels like your floating up them. At ground level would you put sleepers in or just a compacted base?

Ive done 6x6 stacked cantilevered and through bolted with 1x6 between each to make a floating stair system supported 1/3 of the distance back

What is your take on box stairs with a mitered picture-frame for each tread (as per usual) but with the in-fill boards running perpendicular to the risers? Weird to explain what I'm trying to accomplish.....but I have a whole bunch of short off-cuts from my main decking composite boards and I have a few long pieces from the decking picture-frame (different color) left over. In order to not waste the little off-cuts and not have to buy more boards, I'm imagining box style stairs for the three steps I need. I would then picture-frame each step like is normally done with mitered corners, etc. But for the in-fill, I don't have any long pieces of main decking color left, just the offcuts, like I mentioned. So I want to just use the off-cuts running perpendicular to the steps.....ie as if the main decking continued out past the deck picture frame and spilled out onto each step. Not sure if that makes sense. I tried googling that look but cannot find anything similar. I'd appreciate any input. Thank you!

Am ready to make boxes for stairs ( 7 f. long x 3 board composite 17 in.) Can I cut back on lumber by only using 10 inch blocking on where the treads will be, and 20 inch everywhere else ? Trex says to use close blocking for support. I will be making 4 boxes as you can see this would save a lot on cost.

Doc, how would you do the handrails for these steps? Would you do a gradual slope, or make straight horizontal rails that step down with each platform?

I want to make single box stair, but instead of going out from the deck, going into the deck, to keep the steps off a paver walkway, and under a roof!!! How do you do the deck framing for that?

What about frost heaving with bpxed stairs?

How do you connect each set of box frames together?

Is it okay to use the box method for 4 stairs ?/

I'm from the UK and I don't work in the rain. I only work 4 days a year.

Are all the rises equal? Top deck rise looks less than the others.

What about pitch ?

How many steps can you go up with this method?

Love watching your videos but man the rain you get out there is crazy, I almost don't see the point of having a deck out there unless you want to sit in the rain. Stay dry!

I left Seattle because of its communist like government… and this video reminds me of another reason … RAIN….! I do appreciate your video of box framed stairs and decks though…! I just put in a hot tub and wILL build this type of steps to gain access to enter the tub…I am sure it will be much safer than plain stairs…! ❤️🇺🇸😇
