My biggest struggle is history and science. Thank you for sharing these resources! I really wish there were secular versions of some of the Christian curriculums. they are so pretty!

I'm hopeful that as homeschool becomes more mainstream and less nonsecular that we will continue to see our resources grow.

We've homeschooled for 7 years. Our favorite, hands down, River of Voices. My kids really enjoyed the literature selections. I really enjoyed that different "paths" were offered However, I am glad we waited until my kids were older to go thru this curriculum. They were in 5th and 6th grade. So many good conversations were had after our history lessons. When they were younger, we loved Core Knowledge.

First THANK YOU! for mentioning my channel. So kind of you! And yes there are so many ways to approach history from a neutral perspective. I loved the conversation we had and I hope people can go back and watch our discussion. The most important thing is students get an honest narrative. In terms of American History, I 100% agree we can't give a whitewashed history, but at the same time we have to be careful not to go the other way to much and give a over negative view of American history, and some of the woke sources do that. So again, finding balance. Thank you again for another interesting video. And yes, I am always happy to help out any of your viewers if the have questions about history!

We love History Quest! Something I do that is kind of silly is that we pretend we are going through a portal back in time before I read the History Hops aloud. Then, as I'm reading, she gets to act out the narrative of the hop. She loves it and it really sticks for her!

I almost did book shark, but looking closer I realized it is pretty expensive and you’re paying for a lot of books you can borrow for free from the library. We have curiosity chronicles and it comes with a reading list for every chapter so we’re still getting in a lot of reading. We also got the Timberdoodle kit for next year and the reading challenge and book list in hand book is, just, wow 🤩
@MakingEverydayMagic

The reading list is great! I think the handbook and scheduler are worth getting stand alone, even without the kit.

History Odyssey is the Pandia Press option for older kids. We're jumping into it this year for 5th grade, using their Ancient times book. I gave my dude the option between HQ and HO, and he decided on the one with less crafty projects. Lol

It’s a guideline/unit study with books, crafts, and recipes to add to it. There’s a board game too! I have only purchased the first one. They are very reasonably priced at just $8 each. There is a bundle now for $52 that includes the board game and all 8 girls. Each one is 4 weeks long.

For History of US, if it is needed for your state requirements or just a personal preference (or if your kid needs to know there will be questions to keep them from zoning out), there is a book of questions that you can buy from Amazon. It is just multiple choice questions that i plan to let my son answer as we read through the books.

Is that the 11th book in the set? I have seen some sets that go to 11 instead of 10 books.

I think it is completely separate but i'm not sure. I just bought it and the first few books to give a try, if it doesn't work out we'll probably just watch Crash Course US History and read some books.

@@MakingEverydayMagic I had the privilege of knowing basically since before we had our kid that we were going to homeschool, so I was able to spend years acquiring books before we even started. When Woke History came out it was really one of the first of its kind and the books on the list were easier to get... We ended up supplementing anyway because we wanted more emphasis on indigenous perspectives too, so if I just couldn't find something, I took that as a sign that the universe was giving me more space for those indigenous perspectives.

If you can’t find a book-have you tried finding a read aloud on RU-vid? (Not sure what books are used for it) but that’s what I’ll do for things I can’t find a book for.

I purchased the Oh Freedom! curriculum from Woke Homeschool to use last year. The material suggestions are FANTASTIC, but we did not end up using much of the curriculum. I feel like many of their resources were just a little above the level that holds my kiddos interests. My kiddos are still younger and really want more hands on activities which this curriculum does not provide. It is a lot of reading, writing, and discussion. We have shelved it for now, but I think we will pull it out again when my kiddos get closer to high school. Evan Moor has History Pockets that my kiddos enjoy. They are a little more "white washed" than I like, but we just included extra resources to address that. They are not a curriculum, but the History Smashers Book Series is INCREDIBLE! They tell the "real stories" of specific events in history. And they are super fun to read. We are using them this year to create our own unit studies. I can't wait to try out History Quest next year. I'm waiting until my younger two are a little older. But I've heard such great things about it!

Can you look at Layers of Learning - definitely neutral - neither religious, nor evolutionary. Also can be purchased book or PDF and can be purchased in entirety or by section. The first edition (still available) had 20 sections and also included science, art appreciation, geography with each section able to be purchased separately.. The second edition - revised everything - now is entirely history focus, OR geography focus OR art appreciation (and application) focus OR Science focus - and each area is subdivided into units meant to be studied over a month's period of time and can be purchased as such (9 months worth of material). They do have a website as well as having a group on facebook and an instagram page. It is NOT a "lay it all out and follow the curricula word for word" curriculum but more of a guide that can (if you wish) be used with various other curricula such as The Story of the World, etc. and/or can be used with spines like Usborne Encyclopedia of history or the DK encyclopedia of history, etc. It is also definitely chock full of hands on projects - and, what's more - the kids LIKE it!
