One thing I loved about the St Vincent model when I tried one was how unexpectedly comfortable it is to play. As odd as the shape seems, it doesn't FEEL strange at all sitting down.
I have the older music man one. Feels great sitting down, but might need to get used to how close the strings are to your leg. It’s a very slim waisted guitar.
Luke's story of the day his dad bought him a guitar brings me to tears every time. That Damage Control riff brings back G3 memories, that outro solo is just amazing!
@@scottydog62Availability is extremely limited here in the UK, at the time I got mine Andertons had one white on in stock and GuitarGuitar had 1 blue one, that was it in the whole of the UK. I have a whole story about how I got mine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CJQfYZkCglE.htmlsi=LZ7RlTxzMdByTIpJ
Music is music, it matters not if its from youtube, a coliseum, a smokey bar room, or a garage. A vibration of strings that stirs the soul. A sound to inspire, and a sound track through life's good times and bad. You are a musician and that is something to be proud of.
So Very Cool, Thankyou. Amazing to have Rabea back, Man his playing is SO Awesome. And just his 'personality' is so amazing. I would love to see more Rabea and Pete together again ...... maybe my 2 favorite Guitarists and both awesome 'Blokes' too. Champions. I have an Entry Level Sterling by Music Man Sub Silo3 in The David Gilmour Black with white pickups. OMG may be my favorite 'Strat' Style Guitar. The asymmetrical cut maple neck is slimmer on the treble side and thicker on the bass side and is just a pleasure to play for me. All The Best. Cheers
Steve Lukather was & is a very sought after union member session guitarist, it was his bread & butter before, during and after his time in Toto, Toto was actually born from session players meeting in gigs & forming the band.
I first saw Dream Theater in Glasgow at the Cat House club way back. John knows what a Glasgow Kiss is! Congratulations Bea, you're earned it and you belong there. And well done Lee and team for championing his talent.
The No. 1 thing you will notice when playing a Luke for the first time is how low and flat the frets are. No one ever mentions that in demos either. Definitely try before you think about buying one online. I was totally surprised when I first played one.
I think a lot of these are available in their Sterling by music man division. Still not cheap or my idea of a budget price but they’re comparable to the electromatic range from gretch prices 500-1100
I own both the Luke III BFR and Majesty BFR. They're, without a doubt, the best guitars I've ever had. What I like the most is the playability and confort they provide, encouraging you to play more.
So glad to have Rabea demoing these great guitars. He's adept with and loves so many styles of guitar music. If all we get demoed is blues, edge of breakup, and maybe some begrudging boomer rock or country... we don't have all the info about how versatile a guitar is (or isn't). I always prefer the channels that put a guitar through its paces, end enjoy doing so.
Toto were top flight studio guys and played on tons of tracks before releasing their own stuff as "Toto". Luke played on a TON of Quincy Jones tracks in those days.
Hey Lee & Rab…Fascinating to hear you and Warren talking about Music Man in your store walkabout video this week, Lee…Particularly how they're small and comfortable so players that discover them feel more 'classic' guitars feel unwieldy, when going back to them!…Yet Rab, as he says, is a larger chap and still loves them. Now even more tempted, as a smaller man, I have to say…BTW Jakko's PRS vid this week is fascinating re piezo a pickup but his guitar has two separate outputs…Should Music Man consider doing the same?
The " Beat it " riff was MJ's - Who sang it out to Steve in the studio (as he did all the riffs n parts to the musicians) - Lukather himself said in the Beato interview...
Not familiar with James Valentine but his guitar tone was my favorite easily! Also Frenzied Flame and Vileblood! Possible my 2 favorite games of all time, i love it!
The guitarist in that new band that is everywhere at the moment, The Last Dinner Party, uses the St Vincent guitar a lot. She's obviously a bit of gearhead. Interesting band. Should get her on Captain Meets sometime.
I think i said this before elsewhere, but it's wild to me that the Kaizen's idea was "let's pull out all the stops and make the most modern guitar possible", but it's still made of wood, and it's still a bolt on neck with not that much of a recess. Call a spade a spade, it's just a Tosin signature model from a company that's not his own.
The St Vincent sound and look like Firebird PU. You can only get that chime with blade magnets inside the bobbins . HB's mini PU have just one PU flat across the base of the bobbins
Dude Suspended Animation is great. I like the live versions of the songs from the G3 tour. There’s a breakdown soloy part from Glasgow Kiss that is different from the album
I was in doubt between a Gibson Les Paul Custom and a MM JP Majesty. I bought the MM because it is much more versatile and it has a superb build quality. Top of the line custom shop level, when I want that quality from Gibson I have to pay almost twice as much
Luke didn't write the "Beat It" riff; he played it and played the bass. Toto was basically the rhythm section and Eddie played only the solo. Steve and Eddie were great friends so this wasn't a difficult issue.
St Vincent designed her guitar to be conformable for a woman's body. That was the main goal. I wouldn't can St Vincent pop. Her music is wacky and not at all accessible to pop listeners. She writes very interesting music and uses crazy effects. You need to listen to her many times to start to appreciate her. She is a mad genius.
Some of those, if not all, need a bigger headstock. Not sure how much but an option would be nice, if i ever want to buy guitar from Music Man. In Fenders i quite like that bigger headstock, so i guess that's why Music Man guitar ones look so small.
I own a JP15 and love the small headstock and the directness of the strings from nut to machine heads, it makes the tuning awesome even with heavy tremolo use. Apparently the smaller size also means that most MM guitars will fit into the overhead lockers on aircraft whereas Fenders won't !
Great guitars that honestly leaves "some" other makers in USA in the dust. Superior quality and one of the first guitar companies that used S/S for frets on the majority of its models. Music Man may not be well known in the UK, but in the states their quality is well known ! Can't speak for the Sterling models (never owned one) reviews are great for that line.
Yeah- if you want to impress ppl and look cool you spend 3gs on a Gibson or Fender- but if you want to sound good and have an instrument that doesn't fight you, spend 3Gs on a Music Man.
I paid $765 and $1300 - ebay - used -both Lukes (USA older models) and sold them to trade up to two new Ibanez AZ prestige axes last year - best deal for a new guitar, plenty of used ones out there too. Deals are out there. Never paid $3k for a guitar and never will. Bought a FireFly from Guitarsgarden (strat) last week for $170 - those are outstanding for the money. Cheers !!@@stoneysdead689
Will always be a fan of JP and my dream guitar Majesty ! Kinda funny tho, every time Rabea puts his hands on those guitars, fretboard becomes small, hahaha.
It makes it kind of difficult to notice the different tones and nuances of each guitar with so much delay and effects. It would be good if they played each guitar with no effects, just straight to amp, in order to really have an idea of each one's particular sound
I hope we get a simplified Sterling Kaizen. Regular frets, humbuckers and fixed bridge. Reduce the back carve if it makes it cheaper. And keep the headstock instead of the ugly OG headstock of Music Man.
It depresses me that music man makes some of my all time favorite sounding and favorite looking guitars, but I’ll never get to play them, because even though Brian Ball is a lefty, they hate lefties.
No one ever mentions how low and flat the Luke model’s frets are. Great sounding modern guitar with frets that feel like they have one level left in them before you have to refret
Don’t know where Ricky got his data from but everywhere I can find says 78ish is the current average life expectancy, so yeah I’d say 35 is still middle aged, that being said, 35 still feels young to me😂 sorry Rebea.
LOL. He misquoted him. In the special he said scientists were saying that could very well be the life expectancy of someone BORN TODAY, and, in 10 or 15 years, they said it could be upwards of 110-120 or something like that. Being in my 50s now, I'm feeling very mortal, so I'm holding out hope for "head in a jar" Futurama technology.
