Same here, Crafted in China, Bullet Stratocaster. The stock tuners, nut, string trees, and bridge saddles are garbage but everything else is fine to excellent. So far I upgraded the nut, string trees, and bridge saddles with GraphTech, and changed the tuning machines to Fender locking tuners. Now not only can I use the tremolo without the guitar going out of tune, but it stays in tune for days, even carrying it in a gig bag. The only thing that effects the tuning is temperature, whereas when I first got it, it wouldn’t stay in tune five minutes much less after bending, and the tremolo was off limits. So my next upgrade is the Obsidian Wire Blender, and I’m absolutely shocked that I do not need to solder at all, and don’t need to buy any additional parts. Why aren’t they all built like this by the manufacturers?!
Thanks John, a fellow bullet owner and proud, I agree with the obsidian wire kit, I wish all my guitars had it, it’s so easy! Nice guitar man and some superb upgrades! Cheers!
Another really good demo, Derek. I think you're improving with each one, your' production and editing skills are really good without being overly flashy and I'm both impressed with your willingness to take on new jobs such as the nut replacements and like the way you speed up video for the more mundane tasks. This was a cracker, well paced and with genuinely interesting content. Nice one! BTW, if you want suggestions for pickups and tuners, I would go for Tonerider's and some kind of Kluson style tuners. I put Wilkinson split post ones in my Peavey stratalike beater and they have been superb and look the part.
Thanks Gareth, i really appreciate the feedback on the pace and editing, i never know if it's working or not and that helps a lot, good suggestions for tuners and pickups, cheers Gareth!
Those mods definitely perked up that old Squire. I wasn't aware of the Obsidian kits, but combined with your great video, I think that a lot of people that shy away from soldering and such, will be inspired to dive into their guitars and improve the performance. My Squire and others I've played are pretty good as far as tuners go, but with that rig, I can see you swapping pups pretty soon. Great playing, great tone, BTW. Cheers!
Thanks as always Brad! Still a few mods to go and I’ll have changed everything, the neck is the important part though, plays so well, and the obsidian wire kit is fantastic! Went in easy, quality pots, plus the treble bleed and bridge pup tone, I’m loving this guitar :)) cheers!
I think I'm going to do something similar with my $150 Epi LP. I haven't found a wiring kit for just a volume & tone nob, so I may just upgrade those components & swap out the humbuckers with humbucker sized P90s or maybe a TV Jones knock off that will fit. Nut & tuners is definitely something the Epi needs.
Sounds like a good plan, decent pots make a lot of difference, modding a guitar also makes it yours and I find it an enjoyable thing to do, cheers Rich
Interesting. Thanks. Could you perhaps do a video on action/inclination one day ? I’m always worried I’m going to wreck my guitar but it would be nice to learn 🙂👍
Man, that squier is sweet, it´s nice to see people doing mods on a guitar to enjoy it, not only to make it sound like other guitars, for your kind of playing it would be great to add new pickups, maybe fender´s texas specials or fat 50´s, idk, it´s nice to see you modding gear, cheers mate
I’m really enjoying this guitar, there’s just something about it that makes it worth investing in :) feels so good to play, and I guess that’s what it’s all about (as the hokey kokey says) cheers my friend! And thanks for the pickup suggestions
Did you have any problems with the new switch Derek? Because the body is thinner on bullets I was told a regular switch wouldn’t fit without routing the cavity….did it install ok?
Hi, do you know whether a fender switch is going to fit in the bullets body? I just bought a loaded pickguard and dont know if its going to fit. I sure hope so
Do you know where you can get obsidian wire kits in the UK at the moment ? they've stopped shipping them here because of Covid-19 and they're sold out everywhere else ☹️
@@yvanmartin2872 hmmm I had to look around on some forums to replace them and as I remember I only replaced two on mine (two that were broken, the screw was slipping) I still haven’t found the answer yet, sorry
The God awful background noise was unsettling. Why are you the only person on the planet that uses ‘Super Glue’ for a nut!? Standard wood glue if you may ever want to change it.
Especially on the front side of it? Right up against the fretboard where it's 100% gunna pull up some of the fretboard if it's ever taken out. Pure retardation
