Just wanted to say I really like this kind of video from you, Guy. Speaking for myself (and hopefully for many others), I find it reassuring that even a talented fella like you sometimes fluffs things up, and has to feel your way towards whatever it is you have in mind for your composition. That process I enjoy watching; it's inspirational and optimistic. All these wonderful, amazing VSTi plugins we have at our disposal these days (and Pigments is, indeed, an outstanding and inspirational creative powerhouse) can often leave us bemused, overwhelmed to the point of inertia. That's where you step in and remind us to chill out, and just play about a bit. Something will arrive, keep going. It's the wonder of it, really, isn't it?

So right, when I see Guy strugling against some tempo and failed notes I see myself in my studio when I fight with my fingers, moaning silently in my head, insulting myself (without such a talent nor a video cam, obviously)

I do indeed like the content and have done one of Guy's courses and have just purchased the Music Theory course as a Christmas present to myself. It is so inspiring to watch a piece of music created, dragged into being, whilst showing what works and more importantly what didn't work. Seeing how Guy works around issues that arise is so useful for when a similar thing happens to me. Keep up the fab videos.

I've been struggling to write more original music as I often get stuck thinking too much about my favorite film scores. I couldn't get away from this one progression, so I decided to watch one of Guy's videos for some inspiration. What do you know, the opening chord progression he's using in the pads is the same as the one stuck in my head! It actually made me realize how different a chord progression can sound through tempo, time signature, and texture.

This is great. Just found the channel through a melodies video. I’m 36 and want to release a post rock/post metal/ambient album. So I’m researching to make better melodies. Figured I need great melodies to stand out and make instrumental music exciting for people who don’t normally listen to instrumental.

When you first came in with the 'tune' of 2 notes for the guitar... I lost it! I usually laugh at some point during your videos, but I was in tears I was laughing so hard. You did such a build up for that 'tune' too :)

Regards Guy, after watching a fair few videos of solo instrument libraries, its quite astounding how many of the creators and people obviously being asked by companies to help promote their libraries, either over quantise or program the samples in. Ive only seen one so far advise people to play in samples live as much as you can. As a classic trumpet and cornet player you play in a way that is always adjusting your sound on the fly to the room, other players around you and the room acoustics. Samples are always limited so playing in live allows you to adjust your tempo, swing and note length to suit the samples to your piece. It would be good if you could go into this in a video to demonstrate how playing in live will help with getting the samples sounding more real as you can adjust to everything live. You may already have and ive missed it. So many demos and influencer promos are actually making some good sample libraries sound poor when they are not.

Very nice. My question is, if you consider what's been composed so far, how would you develop ideas for a next section? And would you always work out details (i.e., multiple tracks/sounds) for each section, like you've done here, before going on to compose the next section?

I'd love if you could do a video explaining how to recreate the climaxes of Game of Thrones S7 Official Soundtrack | Dragonstone - Ramin Djawadi. I wonder how many tracks, how much ram, what software packages, template, orchestration would make something like this. Gives me goosebumps.

Great content again, really helpful videos Guy. I just finished a tune what I've been working on for a while, actually I started writing this song during Covid, and lated just had no time to finish. Actually this is the first ever song I've written for full orchestra. It would be incredibly great if you could have a chance to check this out, I really would like to know your thoughts about this tune. I would really appreciate that. Tom

Have you ever tried to do a score with just simulations instead of the sampled instruments? I love Pianoteq and I've seen some impressive simulations of wind and brass instruments lately. Drums and percussion have been virtual forever. It would be great to see these used in a professional score instead of the typical libraries.

Excellent as always. Quick question on the template - how do you find loading times between cues when each is using a fairly normal orchestral size? I'm still using VEP on the local machine, as I figure the load time would slow me down when switching cues within Cubase.
@lahattec
@lahattec 5 месяцев назад
Here is something for the agenda.... how about showing in Cubase how to deal with changing tempo for a particular cue mid-way into a video project without screwing up the alignment of all the following cues? And having multiple tracks, of course. I am really struggling with this. Thanks! :)

Hey Guy, I love watching your videos. Out of curiosity, when you write a piece like this, what do you do with it? I find myself doing this very thing a lot, and I have a pretty good collection of pieces that are just sitting around collecting digital dust. So what do you do with things like this? Is sort of unfinished so does it just go in a folder and you finish it one day? Or are you able to use these for a purpose? My reality is that I’m a nobody so I don’t have the connection to land a gig or anything. But I have a collection of unfinished tracks like this that I want to do something with. So any advice one what I could do with them? What do you end up doing with tracks like these?

I had a look at the thinkspace courses for BF, but I didn’t find one that would fit me: “string arrangement for pop songs for dummies”. I don’t do orchestral stuff, but once in a while I like to do some strings for pop/folksongs, and I suck at it. Anyone knows a good course that teaches how to do realistic MIDI string arrangements for that purpose?
