Always profoundly sad when I see an older movie with the Towers in the background. I remember the morning they were "hit" by planes. I was getting ready for a job interview, watching the news, when they showed the atrocity live. I thought it was "fake," because it just couldn't be real - looked like a movie scene it was THAT horrendous. I went to the job interview, actually got the job, don't remember why because I don't even know what my responses were to the questions they asked - I was just devastated by what I'd seen. Sorry, long answer to your question, but it always breaks my heart when I see an old movie with the Towers & all I "see" in my memory, are people jumping to their death from the Towers.

@@hugowilliams1988Now, people stay in their little "circle of friends" and most of the time, all you see is the top of their heads. It sickens me to the core to live in a society like this. Back then, society was actually a people society if you know what I mean. One would call a friend or friends and meet up and hang out together without phone distractions. All conversations were constantly interactive. I really miss all that. Those days have been destroyed with technology. Don't get me wrong, technology is a very useful tool and comes in handy. Google maps is a good example of this. It's when people allow technology to take over their lives to the point to where they become very disconnected by others around them. Now, every thing is time, money, time, money, time, money, time, money............ and extremely little social time left in most people's lives. Very, very, very depressing times we are living in now........ 😔

My kids are all 20 something's and they can't afford the sort of social life I had in the 80's. We didn't have cell phones, the internet or social media. What we had was the what's on page in the local paper, a telephone and a weekly wage so if you were broke by Thursday it didn't matter because Friday was payday.

I loved this from the very moment I first heard it. It is, I think, a secular spiritual anthem about people navigating life, coming through the fog, and waking to a new dawn in their lives - about personal developement and faith. It always called to me even before I began my own faith path. It prefigured that. It is part of why I think a spiritual faith can be just as beneficial as a religious one. Maybe this song helped me. And finally I have to say that if the sight of the wonderful Carly Simon standing on the back of a ferry and declaiming those opening lyrics does not move you, nothing will. Thank you Ms Simon

In February 1989, I took my Mom out to dinner & this movie for her birthday. In April 1987, we lost my father when I was 17, a Senior in High School. My parents were 1 month shy of their 23rd wedding anniversary. I was now a Sophomore in college, and my mom remembers this birthday every year. Our lives were always filled with difficulties. My parents before they met, after they wed, after having children, my father growing sicker, alcoholism, my getting sick, and his demise. She eventually met, and married the man she was meant to be with from the beginning. She is happier than she’s ever been in her entire life, and he’s been in my life longer than my father. She finally got what she deserved, and I couldn’t be happier for her. I just wish I could have done more than just give her a memory of a dinner & movie after all of these years being 54 now…

Lyrics We're coming to the edge Running on the water Coming through the fog Your sons and daughters Let the river run Let all the dreamers Wake the nation Come, the New Jerusalem Silver cities rise The morning lights The streets that meet them And sirens call them on With a song It's asking for the taking Trembling, shaking Oh, my heart is aching We're coming to the edge Running on the water Coming through the fog Your sons and daughters We the great and small Stand on a star And blaze a trail of desire Through the dark'ning dawn It's asking for the taking Come run with me now The sky is the color of blue You've never even seen In the eyes of your lover Oh, my heart is aching We're coming to the edge Running on the water Coming through the fog Your sons and daughters It's asking for the taking Trembling, shaking Oh, my heart is aching We're coming to the edge Running on the water Coming through the fog Your sons and daughters Let the river run (let the river run) Let all the dreamers (let all the dreamers) Wake the nation (wake the nation) Come, the New Jerusalem

"Let the River Run" is Carly Simon at her very best. A stellar performer, she never let me down. Carly not only was a great vocalist but wrote wonderful lyrics. She sang a song about her Mother's passing, 'Like a River' that was so loving and touched my heart. This song "Let the River Run" was performed for the movie "Working Girl". It has three top actors and is very much worth watching. The leading male actor is Harrison Ford. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do.

TONE B HURT John van Hal Randy Hume This was filmed and recorded before America lost innocent children, women, and men in the Twin Towers bombing. It now reminds us that we survived and why we survived. We are a resillent people who pull up our boot straps and keep going. Carly when she was photographed here could not know she was standing in front of buildings that would become so much of a symbol, of what we stand for as a nation. This is a wonderful photograph. This is a part of history. The Twin Towers emanated our nation's pride. The new monuments that took it's place does the same. Carly is wonderful. She is a perfect example of why the United States stays strong. She fills us with inspiration.

Jay MacB I'm from Manchester in the North-West of England and agree with you regarding the range of dialects here in the UK! If I were to just walk three or four miles towards Oldham in Lancashire, even before there in Middleton, the accent is drastically different from where I am in Manchester. The UK must be unique in this sense. American accents are again, varied and many. It must be a similar feeling for an American, say from Washington State travelling to Nebraska or South Carolina - the accent, dialect and even the culture to a certain degree must seem alien. I also agree with you Jay MacB with regards to the south of England; although I don't mind the southerners, the way in which they say certain words is akin to finger nails on a blackboard, plus the fact that they genuinally not as friendly as us northerners - fact! I've visited enough to learn that this isn't a stereotype lol. What can be said about Carly Simon? She is one of the most attractive and charismatic performers in history. She is also one of those artists that has never produced a bad record and in that sense is the gift that just keeps on giving! Talented, sexy, feminine, statuesque, highly-intelligent, personable and immensely charismatic......I could also be talking about the superb Sigourney Weaver here aswell - my favourite actress, who is 'yet' to receive an Academy Award! I find this quite stunning really. She was nominated for Gorillas In The Mist and Working Girl....but is yet to win one. Anyway, great comment mate and you're spot on about Carly Simon's dress sense, she always appeared a classy bird......and her hair! Great, great hair! Chris (UK).
