LET US BE THE PEOPLE GOD IS WELL PLEASED
1 SAMWEL 13: 8-14
To be the people God is well pleased or the people after Gods’ own heart is important for believers. Even though it is not easy to be such people but we can purpose to do our best.
We are to do the best we can since there is a cost and sacrifice to make to get there
Apart from JESUS (the Son of God) - MATTHEW 3:17, another person mentioned to win
the heart of God is DAVID (main text).
If David was able to win the heart of God and named a man after Gods’ own heart
regardless of his weaknesses, then we can also be people God is well pleased.
Things to be Done:
1. EXERCISE OBEDIENCE AND HUMILITY TO GOD
We can learn about obedience and humility from JESUS & DAVID for our sermon
Jesus obeys and undergo baptism to fulfill all righteousness - MATTHEW 3:13-17
Jesus was ready to be baptized in water by John His subordinate, while;
Himself came with the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire - MATTHEW 3:11
Jesus is teaching us the importance of both baptism - in much water and Holy Spirit
We also see the behavior of obedience and humility in the life of David
His obedience and humility made him not to kill his enemy - Saul, even when God
brough Saul into his hands - 1 SAMUEL 24: 9-12
David warned even his security people not to kill Saul - 1 SAMUEL26:7-12
David did not consider Saul as an enemy, but the Lord’s anointed and his leader
David did not want to push Saul out of the office for him to assume leadership
David did not do so even though he knew that God has already reject Saul
We need to learn from David to allow God to do His work at His own time
2. FOLLOW THE LORD’S COMMAND AND INSTRUCTIONS
Sauls’ kingdom was rejected just because he did not follow the Lord’s command and
instructions - 1 SAMUEL 13:13-14
We can always find the Lord’s command and instructions from the Bible
JESUS remain to be the example to learn from on how to follow the Lord’s command
In JOHN 17, Jesus kept making references to his Father almost in everything:
o For you granted me authority, all those you have given me
o They know you the only true God, Jesus Christ you have sent
o I have brought you glory on earth, the work you gave me to do
o I have revealed you to them, they were yours only you gave them to me
o I gave them your word; they know I came from you-righteous father
o I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known to them
We can as well learn from David on how he gives emphasis on observing the word of
God in order to win the heart of God in PSALM 119
o Those walking according to the word of the Lord are blessed - vs. 1
o Living according to the word of God purify the person - vs.9
o Keeping the word of God protects us from sinning - vs. 11
o The word of God preserves ones’ life Vs. 25
o The word of God gives us salvation - vs.41
o The word of God is a lamp and light to us - vs. 105
In this long chapter we can easily agree that the secret of success is in the word of God.
Therefore, we are required to embrace the spirt of obedience and humility to God and live
according to the word of God in order to people after God’s own heart.
